Marisa isn’t a feminist character at all. Being a “strong woman” alone doesn’t make her feminist and her political power is derived from a oppressive religious institution, experimenting on children, trying to suppress free will and freedom of speech and then abusing her own daughter. She’s not “feminist” if she’s using her power to hurt others more vulnerable than her and not help other women.

I’m curious how HBO is gonna handle Balathamos and Baruch. Burying your gays is uncool these days and I could see them trying to change that, but I don’t know how they could without making some big changes to the plot. (Does a selfish part of me just REALLY want to see them get a happy ending? Yes.)
I wonder how daemons would deal with long distance relationships. If you're texting your s/o, would your daemon pipe up and say "tell their daemon I said hello"? Would the daemons want to talk to each other for a bit?
The "The Golden Compass" movie ain't the worst thing ever. Sure, it's really flawed, fast-paced, Daniel Craig's Asriel has the emotional range of a brick and everyone's allergic to the word "alethiometer" but it's not as bad as I used to think it was, it's a pretty watchable movie.
The fact that daemons can just walk away from their humans in the newer books is the dumbest fucking thing. Pullman spent 3 whole ass books highlighting how special/sacred the human-daemon bond is only to go "nah, anyway a person's literal soul can walk away from them if their relationship ain't perfect" in the end. Fuck TSC.
I don't know why some ppl think that pet ownership wouldn't be a thing if we had corporeal daemons in our world. Daemons aren't pets. Your daemon is YOU, not a cat/dog/bird you chose to take care of.
so like, i actually really like olivier bonnesville and wish he had been explored more in the book...i wonder why i can't really find other peoples opinions on him. he's a douche, obviously, but i still wish the fandom actually like....talked about him.
It bothers me that theoretically there’s an infinite number of universes in HDM but we only get to explore 4 of them in depth (Oxfords, mulefa world and Cittagazze). I want to know about the others too! How different and amazing are they? What are they like? I know they probably won’t be explored but I haven’t seen many other people explore them in fics or headcanons either and that makes me sad because we have an opportunity to literally make up stuff to our liking regardless of canon.
Nearly all the Bolvangar scenes in episode 6 made me physically ill. The intercision scene, the severed daemons in the cages, the kids without their daemons, that nurse who talked abt how much she loved her daemon before he was severed from her, the mere CONCEPT of separating ppl from their souls.... Jesus fucking Christ it's too much.
No offense but this fandom attracts some weird ass people. You can be minding your business and suddenly there are blatantly racists posts about casting choices, people defending Christopher Columbus, people being toxic about the show...I’ve been in PLENTY fandoms and I’ve never encountered people with such bad attitudes and authoritarian mindsets before, what the hell happened?
I think Dafne Keen is the PERFECT Lyra. A lot of people are saying she can't act other than being angry, to which I say, WHAT? She's incredible.
I really want to know if Judaism exists in Lyra‘s world—how that interacts with the magisterium, etc. The Book of Dust seems to allude to them, but it’s hard to say— we see Jew- coded characters, but no real mentions of Judaism. It’s frustrating, because I want to know if people like me fit in some way into her world.
I'm getting real tired of people defending the show's every move so adamantly. It does some things better than the books and some worse, but no one who knows the original context can say things like the intercision scene were acceptable.
There is no way in Dust that Philip Pullman can convince that either Lyra or Will are straight.
