♔ —- The longer his essence was wrapped around his Eldest, the more time he had to truly feel his Grace, to feel the effects of the cage, the effects of the near apocalypse. God let out a slow sigh. It was something he would have to fix. Michael’s grace had once been one of the brightest in heaven, one of the brightest beside his throne. There were other things. Things he was hiding. Things he could quite easily find if he tried to look. But God wanted Michael to feel safe enough to open up to him. He wanted his son to know he could come to Him to fix things.
Saying that, he felt his control slip a little. Felt a little more of the damage seep through, the fear he felt, the insecurity. His grace took on a calming vibe, soothing warmly over his being like a ray of sunshine. He hated seeing him so unsure, so broken. It wasn’t something he was used to. But until he completely relaxed, there wasn’t much he could do about it. Michael had always been one of the strongest, his first created. The pillar of Angels, so to speak. To guidelines for the following Angels. Seeing him like this was strange, even for God, who had seen it all.
God had returned to do a job. He had things to fix, had Angels to take back home. Heaven might have been locked for them, for all but Metatron. But he was God. Heaven was his own creation, his home. His Kingdom. No one could keep him out. He liked to believe he loved all. Most of the time he did, there wasn’t often he brought his wrath down on his own. This, however, seemed like it would be an exception to that rule. Metatron seemed hell bent on hurting his own. The Scribe was certainly not taking the bigger picture into account. Angry wasn’t so much the case. Disappointed, yes. He was disappointed he would cast his siblings out to earth, Many hadn’t spent any time there. He had left them lost. Metatron had threatened his children. Something he never stood for. Didn’t stand for. Metatron, more than ever, had made his children feel lost. More so than just without Him being there to guide them.
He stopped them from going home.
God stayed stock still as he waited for Michael’s answer, looking at his surroundings. Manifesting a flower in his palm, he brought it to his nose, smiling at the rich scent. He was patient, naturally. Questioning something his father said wasn’t easy for Michael, he knew that much. But it was important he tried. So he just waited; silent, changing the colour of the petals, the shape and the scent of the flower. As easy as that to add a new creation to the world. Lightly blowing the essence off his palm, he watched as gold dust dispersed into the air, sending seeds of the new species into the environment.
He turned when he heard Michael’s answer. “And that right there, that is the beginning. Free will – It’s about more than doing what you want, when you want Mikey.” He said calmly, a faint smile flitting across his features at the use of the name he called the angel as a fledgling. “Free will is… It’s following orders, but knowing there is a cost. Not being afraid to question them, even if you need to carry those orders out anyway.”
In the blink of an eye, they had moved, sat, invisible, on the ledge of a building. “Look at these humans, Michael. So unique. So special.” He waved his hand in front of the two of them, stilling time. “What do you see when you look at these humans? Do you see someone lesser than angels, or someone angels could learn from?”
