hi im bitter about people not commenting on fics. im sad seeing all these authors get so discouraged because no one comments. it takes like 5 seconds! just do it!! dont know what to type? me neither! heres some handy pre-written comments for you! “I dont know what to comment! I really enjoyed this chapter/fic.” “How dare you?” “AAAAAAAAAAAAA” “Extra kudos because one is not enough!” if you read a fic and dont know what to say, leave the tab open, come back later! see if theres a line you really liked! tell them if it reminded you of something dumb! tell them if your roommate saw you crying while reading it and now your roommate is reading it!!! This. I don’t want to pressure people, but when it comes to this, it is very frustrating. Writers are artists as well. And we will fall into obscurity with a lack of inspiration if we feel unappreciated. Singers, sculptors, and actors do as well when they aren’t shown gratitude for the work they put in at the hounding of fans. We all do art, just different versions of it.

It gets to the point where fans feel entitled to more and more content, but they don’t actually do anything to deserve said content. Singers I love get harassed on the daily over it. One just put out her 6th fucking album and some of her fans, who haven’t bought it or any merch or tickets toward this new musical era, are already demanding the 7th album right away without taking time to enjoy what we just got.

A writer I liked took down a fic because the few readers she was getting, stopped reviewing and her hits were plummeting drastically. 3 new chapters that totaled 10K words, all posted within 2 weeks, with one review for each(from me). Out of 57 Favs and 68 Followers, one person reviewed every chapter. She translated that to no one liking where she was going, and after a quick A/N to explain that she was taking it down within the next day, she dropped off the face of the Earth. Her first fic was a ‘failure’ and now she’s gone and doesn’t want to write anymore.

You want that next chapter bad, huh? Then you need to participate more than you have been. There are Guest/Anon options for a reason.

If you do not in any fashion participate by contacting the authors where they direct you to, or reviewing, you do not deserve to bitch about things not being updated. You aren’t paying for with anything, and you decided to attach yourself to a WIP. No one owes you shit. This is a free action on our behalves to keep the fandom alive.
