YOUR LAST TUTORIAL WAS CRAZY GOOD!! do you have any tips on how to draw head angles? tilts, etc…
I feel like I repeat this a lot but the easiest thing to me is to model the head as a helmet of sorts, with a more spherical back and a flatter front, and the neck inserting into the base
Surface lines are useful to understand how the volume turns and deforms with different angles. Then from there I just apply other levels of abstraction (for instance, thinking of the jaw as a solid part that has a more or less fixed axis, thinking of structures like teeth and lips on top of it, etc)
It's easier for some people than others, but to me it does just come down to 1. Simplifying anatomical structures (especially bone and muscle) and 2. Either rotating those in your head or using external 3D aids to understand the volume
Another Ares thought that gets me chewing at the bit is the worldbuilding done to explain how and why ISO’s are capable of existing outside of the grid.
A program derezzing outside of their grid makes perfect sense in the long run; they aren’t of the user world, they’re made of pixels and lines of code. Being able to survive out in the user world would be inherently abnormal, as they were never made to exist in our reality in the first place.
ISOs, on the other hand, are something new. They were never written, never had users tirelessly working on their code line by line, they arrived seemingly out of thin air within Flynn’s grid.
In Legacy, while Kevin and Sam are working on stabilizing Quorra’s code, we see the diagram within her disc show as a double helix; program DNA. ISOs already spawned in with their own Permanence code, blurring the line between program and human.
More than likely, the Permanence code existed within the Encom grid as its own separate routine, a capability for programs to have, but not something they automatically spawned with. Kevin could have discovered it while copying files over to his grid, and it would make sense for that discovery to be made not long after he came across the ISOs.
In the end, in order for any program to survive outside their natural environment, they would have to be upgraded into an ISO-like state, or even become an ISO entirely. This opens up the capability to return to and from the digital world, but also- as shown in Ares -comes at the cost of losing the ability to rerezz within a program’s home grid.
Impermanence and stability at once, a funny little paradox.
