The Moon Comes Over the Tower
Not sure what this is about if I was to talk about it, but it somehow makes perfect sense *Stuffs in Tumblr pocket*

For the uninitiated, this is what Magpies are like during “swooping season” here in Australia.
Fun fact: people have been known to walk around with empty ice cream containers on their heads to protect themselves in lieu of helmets.
Things to remember:
1) This is an Australian magpie. it is not like European magpies. It’s not a flappy bappy chirpy little shitbag you can bat away with your palm. This is a fucking crow in cow makeup
2) Cats and dogs will not try and take them on because cats and dogs know they will lose
3) They live for 25 years and yes, they will remember your face. Although I will confess that my 36 years of life I have never seen a dead one. Under tumblr logic this means they are immortal
4) They are insane. Cold stone bug-fuck insane. And they give zero fucks.I’ve seen them attack cyclists, moving cars, trucks, even a goddamn train.
So imagine, if you will, you are walking merrily down a street one spring and suddenly this train-assaulting, cow-cosplaying ball of immortal feathers and batshit insanity comes screaming out of nowhere and tries to embed itself in the back of your skull, beak clacking like the pump of a shotgun as it tears out chunks of your hair.
This is Australia.
What the fuck es thes
i’m crylaughing holy fuck. Ok. story time. Maggies not evil if you make friends. We had a magpie family who started of as one female - creatively called “maggie”. Then she got a partner. Then BOOM 20ish maggies. All on our verandah singing for steak (which of course they got). They took up the majority of the neighbourhood territory wise, and they never ever ever swooped us. Except our evil old neighbour who would hose them.Â
Ra doesn’t particularly hate magpies, too, but she has some words with them. I have a video somewhere, of her and a magpie yelling at eachother. Dingo and maggie just telling each other “yeah nah fuck off mate”.Â
straya.
omfg almost forgot. FFS DONT FEED MAGPIES MINCE - it gets stuck in the roof of their beak and rots it off. Even the scary swoops don’t deserve that, no matter how many heart palpitations they give you. No bread either, it swells in their tummy and is just so bad for them. Stick to tiny slices of steak/ chicken.
Just sharing this because it is hilarious and I know what they're talking about, having myself been hapless victim of Australian magpie attacks.
Also, I've read (in an article about a book about a magpie research project) that they can be 40+ years old in the wild, not just 25.

Surprisingly, these are not official NASA photos . They’re from the space program in photographer Tim Tadder’s imagination.

Part of the Druid Pack fooling around in the snow
The Druid wolf pack, formed in 1996, was the first group of relocated wolves that were released into Yellowstone National Park. The pack grew fast from five members to 37 members at its peak in 2001. The pack collapsed in late 2009 and early 2010, possibly due to the loss of long-time alpha female #569F and an infestation of mange affecting all pack members. The Druid pack had exceptional longevity and their legacy lives on in many of today’s packs. [x]

Using everyday materials like cotton and cut paper, photographer Shirley Wegner stages these dramatic scenes.
Rather than the smaller dioramas you typically see, Wegner’s constructed landscapes fill up entire rooms.
