He struggled with the binds that held him, trying his best to understand what it was that the other was after. Eyes welled up with tears at the sight of the blade… What if he never made it back, never got out of here? He silently scolded himself for being so weak, for allowing himself to be captured. He was a failure…

Seishun knew very well that in the past Kou and Sindria had not been on good terms. But had Hakuei not allied herself with Sinbad in recent months? Had they not depended on each other? 

“I don’t… don’t understand…” he managed, trying to swallow back the tears. “W-what sort of information…?”

                              “Ah--this is going to get annoying....”

               Hand roughly withdrawing from the boy’s shoulder, it was                swiftly brought down with a large crack on Seishun’s cheek.                Gently shaking out the appendage, a sturdy kick sent the                wooden chair skidding to the back of the room. From the                other side, the Vizier looked at the blue-haired boy expectantly,                already rather fed up with the scenario.

                After all, there was work to be done, and here he was, babysitting                 Arba’s brat. Surely in all that time he noticed something. The                 boy didn’t seem incompetent, after all.

                              “How about you start talking, and I’ll tell you if                               something piques my interest.”

               A soft sigh slipped from Ja’far’s lips, a look of complete boredom                settling on his features.

                              “You’re all the same, you know. Making these big claims                               without any way to back them up. You’re going to need                                to be more convincing--”

                              “I’m truly sorry for involving you in this, but I’m afraid there’s                              no other choice at the moment...”

               Ja’far’s stomach churned at the thought of involving someone not               much older than a child, but war was war and it was necessary to               use every means to your advantage.

                              “If you cooperate, I can guarantee this will hurt less. So,                              please, as the attendant to Princess Hakuei, surely you                              have some useful information at your disposal...”

               A cold, reassuring hand rested on the restrained boy’s shoulder,               face a mask of indifference. There was no hint of any sort of               emotion in the royal advisor’s demeanor, metal knife glinting               maliciously from the folds of his sleeves.

❝ SIN.

He couldn’t stop them from taking Ja’far away. From punishing Ja’far just like what had been done to him so many times already. How he had been broken to such an extent. 

Why…? Why did Ja’far have to go through this too?

Not that Sinbad himself was spared. Thrown into a cell just like Ja’far, nothing but a thin wall separating them. There was a small grate amid the stonework and he could just barely see his companion… Looking so confident. Sinbad, too, had felt that way at first. 

But after going through it so many times, he’d given up trying to make things better. Sitting there, shivering, with eyes wide, he retreated into himself. “I’ll be good… I’ll be good…” He repeated those words over and over each time he was thrown into this place now.

As if there were no other words in his vocabulary at all.

But this time was different. This time Ja’far was there. Oh, Ja’far… he’d been so disappointed in Sinbad. And he couldn’t blame the younger male for it at all. He was a failure, just a shell of his former self. He hardly deserved to keep his own name. But he had reminded Sinbad that there was more to him than this place. 

“J-Ja’far… we need… to get out of here…”

               It took nearly all of Ja’far’s willpower not to snap back a sarcastic                response. Of course they needed to get out of here, why else                 would Ja’far have risked his own freedom? Apparently being a                slave had lowered Sin’s intelligence too--how annoying.

               Stubbornly silent, the pale boy shivered in his own cell, body                temperature dropping faster than he’d anticipated. After all, he                hadn’t been to Imachukk in years...But he’d be able to hold out                for this much. 

               How long had it even been? The iron manacles were beginning                to sting his chaffed skin, it felt like he was freezing down to the                 bone. As if on cue, more water suddenly came rushing from the                grate above, leaving the boy spluttering, teeth chattering.

               They wouldn’t break him. He’d never be a pathetic puppet                again. This wasn’t anything more than an annoyance...just                another obstacle to get that stupid Parthenian out of trouble.

               Still, this kind of feeling...it was eerily similar to some of the nights                he’d spent in the desert with Sham Lash. Especially during his                 “training” they always seemed to pick the coldest nights to leave                him on his own with nothing but the clothes on his back.
