Hi! First of all, I'd like to thank you for making those gifs after I requested. So I was wondering is it possible if you could do a tutorial on how to make those gifs? I always check YouTube videos but they are always confusing. Do you need photoshop for it?
You’re welcome! Yes, you need photoshop. I use CS5 extended. You can download it by looking through links here. Are you asking for a full tutorial? This is going to be really long so i’ll put it under read more.

First find the highest quality video possible. Usually I do 720/1080p for regular youtube videos and .ts files for performances. Since I can’t torrent I usually wait for regular download links (hence those playback gifs aren’t the best.)
When I’m using 720p, I use photoshop’s frame capture. Go to File > Import > Video frames to Layers.
Find and choose the video you’ll use. Now you pick the scene. So after clicking “ Selected Range Only” use the little rectangular bar to look through the video for the specific scene. Once you find what you like go to where the scene starts, hold down and keep holding the Shift bar to where the scene ends. Click Ok.
Now that the layers are loaded, delete the unnecessary ones. To choose more that one frame, find the first unnecessary one, click shift, and go to the last unnecessary one. Those will turn blue. Now click the delete button.
Now that we have the frames we want, it’s time to crop. Familiarize yourself with the new tumblr widths. I think its the best to use the new one cause old one just look ugly on the dash. The circled button is the crop button. Find the part in the frame where you want to crop and click enter.
Now time to select all the frames. Click the button circled in red and choose “select all frames”. Click the button in blue to make frame animation. (ignore the select all frames that’s for later just click the blue circled button).
Now go to the layer section, right click on the top most layer (scroll all the way up) and choose “ select similar layers”.
After they turned blue, right click again and select “ convert to smart object”.
This is the time where you can use actions and psds to make your gif look better.
You can look up tutorials for how to use actions if you need it.
So I used this psd and this action. It looked like this.
Go to file > save for web and devices. These are my save settings.
Now we have to reload the gif into photoshop and set a time.
Go to File > Open, choose the gif you just saved.
Now you select all the frames, by clicking red button; ignore the blue circled button.
Click the upside down triangle at the bottom of the fame (circled red) and choose “other”. I set my gifs to be 0.04 to 0.05 seconds. I used 0.04 this time.
If your gif is over 2 mb then now is a good time to delete frames. Always delete from the beginning or the end never the middle.
Go to file > save for web and devices and resave the gif. It will be properly timed now!
