This surprisingly took a minute, (not a reason for my absence, I have portfolios to worry about right now), but I specifically struggled with the hair. I refused to let myself get lazy with the design and wanted to show a sense of character with it.

I got a bit worried in the final design as it looks very similar to her mom’s hair but I think in the end there’s something really beautiful about a small factor like that. I accentuate this more with the name change into heya, it’s similar to hiya but I figured it’d be more like a millie and Molly situation. Now I will admit this isn’t any theory or headcanon I have for Howdy so it admittedly isn’t connected lore wise BUT I wanted to show some subtle hints of confidence and self comfort with showing more skin on the arms and a lack of outfit change presenting heya as a woman who doesn’t want to change the way she dresses entirely and that despite that she know how she feels and what suits her best.

Anyway, I wanted to celebrate this years pride month with my favorite welcome home character and if you remember me,…I GOTTA make it laughingstock 😝:

Disclaimer: if you’re reading this wondering “what does heya mean by ‘big change’? Wouldn’t have this transition been a slow process?” And to answer that; in my original idea I wanted the transition to be something she did turning into a chrysalis. That once she came to terms with her identity, only then was she able to be a butterfly, but in the end I scrapped the idea as I have a very distinct idea for Howdys wing’s and don’t like predicting things so soon in the Wh story and forgot to change the wording in comic to match that.

…I deeply regret this decision and will in fact promptly doodle something of that idea because as of typing this that Sounds really beautiful 🙃😑😐

I’ll be honest I wasn’t expecting Barnaby’s blurb to be so large but I don’t think it’s something you can cut so neatly without risking an unpolished finish.

Rough story idea that started it all: Dress mistakingly sent to howdy instead of Seeya, tries it on as a joke…doesn’t laugh. Poppy comes in, end scene.

Hair practices after the fact, still looks nice and could be heya in early development

yknow i havent done a whiteboard in forever and i started trying to think about Why

mini rant below if you're interested

i think i stopped doing them because i developed this habit of getting REALLY angry at myself while drawing, just getting super frustrated that i wasnt doing it good enough or that i couldnt draw good enough as everyone else around me drew beautifully.

i started feeling like i was acting really negative in these whiteboards i hosted, just bringing a bad vibe to everything, so i slowly stopped doing them. maybe because they made ME feel angry, maybe because i felt like i was bringing the vibe down, probably a mix of both.

i still do this, i get really frustrated while drawing sometimes, which is why i don't really trust myself to stream myself drawing in like a discord server or something, even just with friends.

i've gotten better at just stepping away from whiteboards while drawing instead of just locking in super hard lmao

anyways. tldr i stopped doing whiteboard subconsciously bc they were making me Angry but we're so back !

Frank insists that Julie wears lavender scents as it reminds them of Eddie

Both believe they'll find an answer to their "situation" with time (they never will)

Frank drunkenly confessed to Barnaby about their feelings for Eddie

Frank finally realizes their feelings for Eddie around like 10-20 years later (its to late)

Both dread New Years as it makes another year that the two aren't together

Frank plants lavender in his garden as a way of keeping Eddie around

Eddie has so many love letters that were for Frank but never sent any

Eddie attempts to move on yet never can

Frank stays closeted till their death

If Eddie was to date others, he'd accidently call them Frank and would never explain why

If Eddie dies first, he'd give everything to Frank. Including the letters

Frank would never forgive himself for not acting on his feelings if they did receive Eddie's letters

If Frank and Julie did get married, Frank would accidently say Eddie's name

Eddie has a framed photo of Frank on his night stand and wishes it goodnight every time (he'll kiss it from time to time as well)

Homewarming with Howdy

★ You were a little scared, to be honest. Nervous to make a good first impression and getting to know the Pillar family. Howdy had insisted on bringing you along. In his mind, someone's first Homewarming ought to be spent with a proper family!

★ Howdy helped you get ready. Taking it upon himself to find you a nice outfit. Something a little formal, but not overly casual. Naturally, it came from his shelves. Almost as if it had been waiting there for you to buy.

★ As you walk in, you notice how packed Howdy's place is. There's a lady with a beehive hairdo... standing next to an actual bee, presumably her husband? The gentleman nods in your direction. While the lady waves to you with a smile.

★ You got led inside by howdy, bringing you to two butterflies. "Let me introduce you to my folks!" He said, putting a hand on your shoulder. "These are my loving parents, Hiya and Biya." You stifle a laugh at the names. Instead holding out a hand. "Pleased to meet you."

★ Hiya went in for a hug instead. "Oh! Hello darling! I've heard so much about you!" As she pulls away, you notice Howdy tugging his collar gently. Biya accepts your handshake. Saying, "So glad to finally put a face to the name!"

★ The shopkeeper is a little miffed his brother seems so fond of you. Because he's certain you'll be too distracted by his "art" to talk to anyone else. Bad poetry. The greatest Homewarming gift of all...

★ At the end of the night, before you get the chance to protest, the family gives you whatever leftovers they thought you might enjoy. Sending you home with plenty of food. Homemade honeycomb, leaf casserole, and don't forget the strawberry soda. Howdy handed you some brown paper bags to carry everything.
