I NEED TO POINT SOMETHING OUT
A lot of people have been complaining about how Elsa’s ”recovery” at the end wasn’t believable - that after thirteen years of fear and depression, there’s no WAY she would be better just like that.
Of course, those people are right. Thirteen years of pain doesn’t disappear after a few moments of happiness.
But here’s the thing - Elsa didn’t just “recover”. She’s happy in this moment, and for good reason - a huge weight has been lifted off her shoulders. She’s relieved to not have to hide, to be with her sister, etc.
However, this is just one scene. Everyone who has depression knows that no matter how depressed you are, there are still some happy (or at least smile worthy) moments. In addition, if you really look at her face, you will notice that the emotions being expressed aren’t just happiness. Elsa’s feeling a whole range of emotions here - nervousness, excitement, disbelief, etc. Not pure happiness.
The fact is, it won’t be a 100% happy ending for Elsa. Even after the movie, she’s still going to have a shitload to deal with. She’ll still suffer from depression, anxiety, etc - the difference is that now she can be open about it and receive help from her sister. She doesn’t have to hide it anymore. Of course, she’ll want to, but now that Anna knows the truth there’s no way she’ll let her.
So yes, Elsa was happy in the end. Is this unbelievable? No. Will she have a perfect happily ever after and never feel intense emotional pain again? Obviously not. She’s going to go through a lot, as anyone recovering from a mental illness does. The important thing is that she’s on the way to getting there, and this scene marks the beginning of her journey to happiness.
this is how depression works. sometimes there are good days, sometimes there are bad days. everyday is always grey, but sometimes with just a little less rain.

His voice is filled with lust, Anna can hear it dripping from the few words he said. Part of her dreaded what was coming from this. She hated this, only allowed to show affection when he wanted it. Never when she wanted to.
But such was the life of a Queen. Living to bear his children, rule, and raise them.
Hans’s body is pressed up against hers and her heart is pounding in her chest, her breath short. The way he spoke, the lustful words, pulled a soft sigh from her lips and she nodded her head. Just like she always did when he asked. He always asked, and she always said yes.
“Of course, my king. Whatever you need,” she purred softly, her fingers gently grasping his chin to pull his lips back down to hers before she snaked her arms around his neck.
She understands. She knows what he wants, when he wants it, where he wants it -- Hans doubts he could've picked a better queen to submit to his every will. Still, he doesn't say as much, because he knows how to twist people and he knows that to twist Anna, he can't let her know she's doing well.
He can only let her know that she could be doing better.
Hans allows Anna to pull him in again, pressing himself flush against her in their locked bedroom. His hands run from her face down her sides, brushing over her breasts softly and gripping her hips tightly. Pressing small kisses along her jaw, his hands never leave her waist, holding on with a vice-like grip.
"Anna," he murmurs into her ear, controlling the ragged pant of his breaths for a commanding tone, "undress me. Now."
──── ╭✿ ;; Anna was surprised to see Hans standing a few feet from here with such a casual look on his face. This hardly felt real and in the back of Anna’s mind, she wondered if it was a dream? Maybe she sang herself to sleep… wouldn’t exactly be the first time…
"Oh, yeah… sure! It’s… been awhile. How’ve you been?"
It wasn’t so much that Anna forgave him or time healed her wounds.
In reality, it surprised her that she was speaking so calmly. Anna pictured this moment so many times before and she could see herself still angry with him.
Now that the time came… the fire of her hatred wasn’t as hot as it looked.
He sees the confusion in her eyes as clear as if it were written on her forehead, but she composes herself, much to his admiration -- and gratitude. Another punch in the face is not on his agenda quite yet. Silently, he lowers himself beside her, for once uncaring of the grass and how it could stain his white clothes. It's good enough for her, so it's good enough for him.
"It's been an -- interesting while for me," he replies, doubting that she'd care to hear his exploits in prison -- in escaping. Still, he smiles a weary smile, nodding his head to her. "And how about you, princess? I've heard nothing but good things about Arendelle since Elsa retook the throne."
