people who are in pain don’t always look like they’re suffering. it’s especially common among chronic pain patients who’ve been ill for a long time, as well as autistic people.

going slack and moving as little as possible, including the muscles of the face, is in fact a sensible reaction to intense pain: it conserves energy. someone who looks outwardly relaxed or bored may be screaming on the inside.

if this is you, i just want you to know you deserve to be taken at your word when you say you’re in pain. you shouldn’t have to put on a fake grimace in order to give a convincing performance of what you’re actually going through.

for people who are unaware of why the riots in minneapolis started happening, here’s the facts:

it wasn’t george floyd’s protesters who started reacting violently; it was the cops.

the protest was peaceful until the cops showed up in riot gear, and started using water cannons, followed up by tear gas and rubber bullets. i got videos from friends who were there, of people screaming and running away from the cops shooting the water cannons, rubber bullets and throwing tear gas at them. they were even shooting at the protesters dragging people away to get medical attention.

speaking of medical attention, dispatch refused to provide any medical attention to the protesters. people literally had to drive their bleeding friends to the hospital because they refused to send ambulances.

cops are using non-lethal weapons in a lethal way. they shot rubber bullets into people’s heads and injured them. there’s dozens of photos of protesters with bleeding head wounds from the rubber bullets.

multiple people used police scanners and heard that there were undercover cops pretending to be violent protesters who were throwing rocks and whatnot at the police, with dozens of eyewitness accounts confirming that information.

the person who instigated all the chaos last night (it was a fire at an autozone) with the looting and burning buildings is highly suspected to be an undercover cop pretending to be a protester, because the video of him keeps getting taken down. protesters tried to stop him but couldn’t because he had a hammer and they were scared for their safety.

the cops jammed cell phone towers and cut live streams to interrupt broadcasts and to prevent people from seeing what was really going on and who actually started the violence.

the cops lied about protesters being armed and about throwing rocks and are literally trying to continue the violence happening and yet no one is holding them accountable for that.

and during all this, the cop that murdered george floyd still hasn’t been arrested. he has had more than ten complaints filed against him and was involved in three other civilian shootings in the past. and yet he’s still out free along with his three other buddies involved, probably sitting on his couch while all this chaos is happening.

so don’t get it twisted. the cops just want to change the narrative to make it look like they’re the wounded and righteous party, when they’re the ones who started reacting violently in the first place and are still acting violently. so don’t you ever forget who started this tragedy and murdered someone, and who are continuing to react to the situation with violence.

quick update

news outlets have mainly been reporting on the burning buildings and looting instead of the people still peacefully protesting. mainly showing black people looting, and not the dozens of white people and others who looted places either. they also aren’t really showing everyone who’s cleaning up (especially all the black people cleaning up) or the protesters who have tried to stop the looting (especially the black people who’ve tried to prevent the looting). they’re painting a nasty narrative. so here’s a gofundme page for a black man who’s been trying to clean up with some helpers and give people water, food, etc during their cleanup.

cops are still using tear gas, rubber bullets, pepper balls, etc against peaceful protesters. i watched a facebook friend go live last night and they were peacefully protesting and still got hit with tear gas. so don’t let the media and cops fool you into thinking that they’re only using those means with the looters or people acting violently. if you’re a protester, you’re a target. so to anyone out there protesting, please be careful.

the governor called in and got the national guard involved with all the rioting and protests, which are starting to move away from minneapolis into the surrounding cities. he also held a press conference this morning, saying that he “recognizes our generations of pain and anguish, but order must be restored”. here’s an article about it.

cops arrested a reporter and his crew live on cnn. they ended up releasing them. but the fact that they’re arresting reporters for doing their jobs and who are really trying to show what’s going on, should concern you. the fact they were arrested before the man who murdered george floyd is disturbing. here’s an article about it.

if you don’t think the federal government or cops just want to resort to violence against the protesters, well, think again! last night, trump and the white house made this tweet (click view to see it once you get to the page) about the situation saying that military is on the governor’s side and they’ll resort to killing protesters for looting. here’s an article about it.

and again, while all this is going on, the cops involved still haven’t been arrested for murdering george floyd, despite some of them having a prior history of doing not so stellar things during their careers as cops. in fact, the man that killed him (derek chauvin) has cops protecting him at his house. they’re protecting a murderer to protect their own, and have made their stances clear on the matter.

justice will not be served until all four cops are put away behind bars. they murdered an innocent black man senselessly, and deserve to rot in jail. don’t stop fighting until they’re locked away where they belong.

I’m seeing a lot of posts like this one doing the rounds on social media right now, and I just want to take a moment to try and discourage my fellow vegans from taking up this line of argument. Yes, there is of course conversation to be had about the relationship between eating animals, pandemics, factory farming and the over-use of antibiotics. I’m completely in support of posts bringing that up and educating on those topics, and I’ve seen many great examples of exactly that. But I’ve also seen far too many posts just like this one, which are looking to blame more than educate.

Before you post, please ask yourself what the goal of what you’re sharing actually is. Obstensively this is telling people to go vegan, but realistically that isn’t its goal. The message is “this is your fault, not ours.” While you may think that’s true, is this in any way a helpful sentiment during the current crisis? Is what is being communicated here likely to make anyone consider leaving animals off their plates? Does anyone honestly believe that someone having to isolate and worrying about rent and food insecurity is going to be swayed to our cause by telling them that they’re pro corvid-19, because of a connection between animal agriculture and pandemics that they’re probably not even aware of?

This is a complex situation, people are frightened and the world as we know it is changing rapidly. This is a time for thoughtful dialogue and nuance, whereas these posts tend to be about as subtle as a sledgehammer. Don’t think that people don’t remember what is said to them at times like this, and the last thing the animal rights movement needs is a bunch of new enemies. We should be reaching out to people, not condemning them.

Women who love women and specifically don’t love men will always have a uniquely complex relationship to womanhood in the sense that being a woman is almost inextricably tied to loving a man, so removing this from a woman’s identity removes a fundamental element from her subconscious understanding of what it means to be a woman. so many lesbians feel disconnected from womanhood not because they love other women but because they don’t love men, because this is so easy to internalize as an inherent aspect of being a woman and that makes it very easy not to feel like one. gender only exists within the societal framework which constructed it and because that society is so patriarchal and binary its perception of the woman gender is skewed through that lens. so i don’t think that society necessarily hates lesbians for loving other women, i think it hates lesbians for not loving men, for being women improperly. many women feel disconnected from womanhood for myriad reasons but this particular experience with gender and being a woman is one that belongs only to lesbians, so when i say that lesbian is its own gender this is what i mean.

i realize the wording in this post undermines the actual homophobia all gay women (not just lesbians) face and that was notttt my intention, obviously societal homophobia is the main point here and the thing i said is just 1 facet/experience that factors into it…. additionally i didnt at all mean to imply that bi and straight womens lives all revolve around men and lesbians are better because ours don’t or anything like that BUT i see how it sounds like that… I meant that love with a man as the end goal is a very very common signal in cultural/media messaging towards girls and we are exposed to this from the minute we’re old enough to understand gender, so on both a personal & societal level its very easy to internalize and very difficult to get rid of even if we only experience it subconsciously and even if we actively think against it. I think part of this has to do with our collective misunderstanding of the word “introvert” in the first place.

Being an introvert doesn’t mean you hate people or are shy. It means that you do not derive energy from groups and find them to be socially draining. It means that you gain energy from alone time.

Extroverts aren’t crazy, loud people either. They’re simply just people who gain energy from social situations.

Tumblr and the internet in general have taken the term “introvert” and conflated it with social anxiety. You clamming up around a large group of people isn’t an introvert thing, it’s a symptom of your social anxiety.

🔥WHAT IS HAPPENING TO AUSTRALIA??🔥

- 500 MILLION hectares burnt (compared to the 1 million of the California bushfires, & 500 thousand of the Amazon one). That’s more than the size of Belgium!

- 19 people dead and 12 missing (as of today), hundreds upon hundreds of homes have been destroyed. Many people are living in shelters right now because they have nowhere to go.

- 480 MILLION animals dead including rare species of wildlife (koalas are now back on the critically endangered list). Wildlife hospitals are at CAPACITY.

- Our capital city has now been labelled as the WORST air quality city in the world. Smoke fills the air, their post offices are shut until further notice. Businesses in major cities in the country are sending their workers home. Major highways keep closing then opening then closing down again.

- The smoke & flames are engulfing so much of the country that you can SEE IT FROM SPACE. The temperature in NSW has just hit a high of 48*C (118*F) this week. The smoke is now also so large that it is affecting the air quality all the way over in New Zealand!!!

- The Australian Navy have just rescued people who had been fleeing on boats to the oceans to get away from the fires (this is an all time record of people rescued on home-soil by the Navy). The army has also been deployed to help.

- Many cities & towns now have no internet, electricity, or any sort of power. Petrol stations are closing down which means no fuel.

- So many rural communities all over the country have also been suffering from one of the top most intense droughts recorded. This started just before all of the fires.

- People are buying equipment for our Firefighters because they can’t keep up with demand (due to our government cutting their funding!!!). Many Aussies are angry with our Prime Minister, who keeps deflecting questions on climate change and saying ‘let’s rally together’ without actually specifying what he is going to do for the future of Australia now that it is all burning up.

- The harbour bridge and opera house are completely covered in smoke. Ash covers car windows. People are being evacuated all over the country. Some people are staying to protect their homes... The air quality in SYDNEY is equal to smoking 30 cigarettes every time you take a breath. And there’s so much more that’s happening that I couldn’t fit.

- Australia now holds the record of the ‘largest fires in recorded history in the world’, and hardly anyone seems to be paying attention. WE NEED YOUR HELP. When the Amazon was burning, when the Notre Dame was burning, when California was burning you all screamed for someone to do something. We’re begging for help and no one will hear us.
