Staring out this image, I used a portrait i had taken and made it slightly darker to suit the tone of the neon light i wanted to add.

Selecting the brush tool I adjusted the size to how large i wanted the neon light to be and with the pen tool i drew out this shape, right clicked and selected Stroke Path to create the shape. Afterwards I added layer effects to get the general neon colour

I then selected my subject and selected the grouped layer containing the stroke paths and masked it, this caused the line to appear behind the subject, which i used the pen tool on the mask to bring back to the front to give the illusion it's going around the model.

I used the brush tool again to adjust the size of how i want the hue radius to be, and applied it as a stroke path and blended it into the image. I added a hue and saturation adjustment layer, making sure to select colourize to adjust the hue and saturation and ensure that only the highlights were reflecting the light (done on layer options > blending options)

After some more adjusting, this is the final image. I'm quite happy with how it turned out as this is my first time doing a complicated composite such as this.

I shot the bottle in the studio at college with some invisible string to suspend it from an adjustable arm. I shot each part seperatly and imported them into photoshop and used the pentool on each piece to cut it out and removed the background using a masking layer. I then colour corrected each piece and added a png image of a splash of water against a solid white layer.

Final version of the bottle, I feel this image turned out really well despite not being in the studio for a long time.

To start off this composite, I removed the background and the screen using the pen tool and placed a solid white layer behind the screen to prevent any transparent spots behind the design later on. I then used the select and mask option to mask the background.

I then used adjustment laters to correct the colour, I used the black and white filter as this made the laptop more uniform in colour as I had no proper lights to shoot the laptop when creating the raw image. I also used the brush tool to remove the B&W filter on the signature red tracking point on the laptop.

I added in the rainbow design I created and used the perspective warp smart filter to adjust it to the angle of the screen

I then added a Liquify filter to create the illusion that the design is dripping out of the screen.

I found a couple of PNGs online that suited what I wanted to achieve with my image which was create a creative advertisement, i also added a light blue gradient to the background to fill in the colour while not overcrowding the image.

This is the final result, which I quite like. If I had better lighting, I feel the laptop would look a bit better, however im proud of the result considering what I had to work with.

Sense of Time

For this project we were tasked with taking the same landscape at 2 different times. Not much research went into this as I knew almost instantly what I wanted to achieve. This is a space just outisde my bedroom window where I notice the sky can change a lot. Sometimes I notice the sky can become really gorgeous with different colours, however unfortunately this hasnt happened recently so I decided to stick with a cloudy day in contrast with a clear sky. For edting I stuck to very simple, basic edting in camera raw.

Interrupted landscape

In this project we were tasked with finding man-made objects amongst the natural landscape. The research I did for this project included taking small reke shoots to figure out the best place to showcase the theme of this brief. I noticed that I would try and take pictures of larger aspects such as buildings, roads or fences, so I turned my attention to smaller things, such as a lonely trampoline in the middle of the field and the top of a spinning toy in a park. I feel these two final images create contrast with the amount of detail, with one having a small amount of texture versus one with a lot of texture. While editing I noticed I automatically turn up the contrast and make things very bright and bold, and for this I decided to try a slightly different approach with less saturation, more colour grading and matching and less contrast. I really like the end result of being mellow and not so much ‘in your face’.

Re/Imagine

For this project we were tasked with finding an image that someone else took and take a series of images based off how we saw the picture or the history behind it. The picture to the left was one my boyfriend sent me over Snapchat using a filter I wasn’t able to use as I have a different Operating system on my phone to him. This image doesn’t genreally hold a lot of feelings, however, the background - his bed room- does.

Due to the pandemic we haven’t been able to see eachother very often and the times we have seen eachother have been in his room cuddling while watching movies or youtube.

All these pictures contain objects that all have meaning to me and that remind me of the time him and I have had together.

To edit these images I only did some simple enhancement to the images as the atmosphere was very dark and didn’t contrast enough.

Not much research was done regarding this, I mainly looked at different images my boyfriend has sent me and felt this was the best.

Brand Slogan.

For this project we were tasked to create a new eco poster to advertise the slogan “Not all Rubbish is Rubbish.” I achieved this by created a dolls’ living room using cardboard and creating an informating poster explaining a Dollshouse is a great way to reuse old cardboard. excess cardboard has become more adbundant due to more online sales from the pandemic.

I edited these images by using free mockups I found on google which used displacement maps. I have screenshotted my workflow of how I made use of the displacement maps which made my workflow a lot quicker and easier.

I started by downloading the mockups and unzipping using 7Zip and used one of the PSDs avaliable for my design. Once opened there is an option on the working layer to change the image (circled in red) by double clicking this I can use the Place Embedded option to add my own PSD file, which can be edited if the writing or anything in the image needs to be moved. To ensure these changes are saved, I simple followed the prompt Photoshop gave me and clicked Save which automatically changes the image to fit on the mockup.

Walk off the Earth: Little Boxes

360 task

For this project we were tasked to create a panoramic while standing in the same spot either indoors or outdoors. When I first started this project I did a couple of testshoots where I went outside and did this task, however when editing these tests in photoshop, they weren’t lining up and always seemed really large in scale. I decided to try a smaller one as I thought I may have been too ambitious with my original idea.

I ended up really liking the messy, comfortable atmosphere of my bed, especially with my cat at the end of the bed. At first I only wanted the bed within the final project but I thought focusing the camera to the trees outside my window would bring in a different light to the overall image. I also added my picture frame which contains a commision of my DND character to add a further sense of personality to the image.

When creating the final image I used my workflow to add the images in, however, due to the different lighting in the images photoshop couldn’t recognise they were all connected so I had to spent a little extra time aligning each image.Which I quite like, they dont line up perfectly with some spacing in between. To edit the odd lighting images I used clipped adjustment layers.

Fashion moodboard and work document.

We were tasked to find a magazine we would work for and make a moodboard based around it. I’ll be honest, I didn’t quite understand this task as making a moodboard based on a magazines front is extremely broad and slightly difficult especially if the magazine has a minimalist design such as i-D’s designs.

Brand Portrait

We were tasked too look at brands we use everyday, such as Colgate, johnsons, Garnier etc. Instead of having my final image as one final brand, I decided to look at the object a brand produces, such as Lenovo, which is well known for their laptops. This brief didn’t specify if it has to be an advertising shot image, so I decided to be creative with it. I knew I wanted to take the image of my laptop open, more standing on the front to show the keyboard and screen. My original plan was to create small digital squares coming off a simple graphic that would be on the laptop screen. I photographed the original laptop image with a white screen to import my own graphic in HD. I was struggling for a while to figure out how to do this in a way that wouldnt be tedious and annoying, so I settled for liquifying the graphic to look like it’s spilling out of the screen. 

My task was to show the type of consumer I am, so I decided to show how playing videogames affects me, both positivly and negatively. I’ve played console and PC games ever since I was a baby where my older borther introduced me to consoles like sega mega drive and dreamcast. Growing up, I have become very dependant on games for that adrenaline and escapism. I wanted to show my enjoyment through the rainbow colours (as I love rainbow and mixes of colour) but melting out the screen, to show that it affects me in real life and not just through games. The gradient in the background also shows the happiness mixed with dependancy (shown through the black).

Through feedback I was told that the message of the image was confusing, which is good as that’s how I wanted to show what type of consumer I am. I can understand why this would be bad as an advertisement image as it makes it seem undesireable.

Object Exploration.

After reading the brief, I decided I wanted to photograph an object with different parts, so I decided to photograph a tangerine due to the bright colour, different textures and different parts. While photographing, my original plan was to shoot away from the light (meaning the light would hit the tangering face on), but I decided it would not only be easier, but also a more interesting light to shoot with the light side on to create a shadow. I suspended the skin with some thread and edited it out in post using photoshop. Due to only having window light avaliable, a slow shutter and wide aperture was used to expose the image as much as possible. I also found afterwards that the orange seemed dull so I created a mask and a clipped adjustment layer to brighten up the tangerine.

New Topographics

New Topographics was a term made by William Jenkins in 1975 to describe banal-type photography. Such as the work of Robert Adams and Lewis Baltz. This work was often banal, b&w landscape images. New Topography was often associated with iages that were blunt and very matter-of-fact; such as parking lots, suburban houses and ware houses which were all captured with an aesthetic depiction of other boring buildings. Some examples include the work of Lewis Baltz, Nichcolas Nixon, Bernd & Hiller Becher.

Focus stacking technique I found this project slightly challenging as i wasn’t sure where I wanted to capture this. Despite the boring location, I felt the light painting did a good job of making it more interesting. I ended up not being able to create the nold, colourful look I wanted. i settled for changing the hue of the imag eto look slightly off as I thought it made the composistion more intriguing. To create the look I used different exposures to light different parts of the image and I stacked them together in photoshop.
