Studying the history of totalitarianism with the help of cinnamon black tea.
monday 8th of june, 2020
here’s a little compliation of photos from the last few weeks ✨
1. Mindmaps - Terms are placed in bubbles on a piece of paper with arrows drawn between them to show how terms are connected.
Good at helping you see relationships between ideas.
Cause you to define a term, then see how it relates to a broader picture.
Can help you see cause and effect, dissimilarities and similarities, and how different ideas interact.
Maybe not good for learning what terms mean.
Particularly useful for essay exams, policy, history, social sciences, and literature.
2. Venn Diagrams - Two circles overlap, with the overlapping section being for writing similarities and the other two sections being for writing contrasts.
Good at helping you differentiate between ideas.
Maybe not good for comparing more than three ideas at the same time.
Particularly useful for essay exams or if you are confused about two similar terms.
3. Time Lines - A line is drawn and labeled with a unit of time (year, point in the book, etc), and events are added above the time they occurred.
Good at helping you place events in relative order.
Maybe not good if you need to define events as well (there may not be enough space to do so).
Particularly useful for exams that require you to memorize relative order, history, and literature.
4. Flashcards - A card has a term on one side and a definition on the other.
Good at helping you memorize short bytes of information.
Maybe not good for learning complex concepts or connecting concepts.
Particularly useful for learning vocabulary, foreign languages, and English.
5. Vocab lists - A piece of paper has terms written in one column. Next to the terms are their respective definitions in another column. The paper is then folded and used as a memory tool.
Similar to flashcards, but it is easier to see the differences between terms.
Disadvantaged in that the order you see the terms is not random.
6. Step-by-Step How-To Guides - Write how to do a problem step by step. Optionally, include an example to the side that shows each step.
Good at helping you learn how to do methodical problems.
Maybe not good for learning the reason why you do the steps you do.
Particularly useful for math and science.
7. Rewriting Notes - This is not simply making it prettier but reworking the wording so that it is in your own voice.
Good at helping you review concepts thoroughly.
Maybe not good if you are on a time crunch or find yourself not thinking through each word you’re writing.
Particularly useful for classes with a lot of details.
8. Summarizing Notes - Going through your notes and condensing the ideas.
Good at helping you see the main idea/big picture/key facts.
Maybe not good if you want to see the relationships between ideas or if the ideas are very complex.
Particularly useful for cramming.
9. Teaching Someone Else - Tutor someone else, give a presentation to your friends or family, or simply voice your thoughts out loud to a pet or stuffed animal.
Good at helping you understand concepts.
Maybe not good if you don’t know anything at all.
Particularly useful for all classes!
10. Rereading - Rereading notes and diagrams.
Good at helping you review very quickly.
Maybe not good for memorizing or learning concepts.
Particularly useful for skimming right before a test.
Haven’t felt this good in a while and I’m honestly digging it. A lot of times music will help set my mood. <Weekend> by Adam Sample is such a good song to put me in a good mood. 😝

here are some year old biology notes…..and some leftover currency I found in my wallet from my trip to El Salvador half a year ago :) 🇸🇻
El Salvador is a very beautiful country, but stay safe and make sure you don’t get pickpocketed like my friend did. Don’t put your electronic devices in back or side pockets of your backpack!

06.06.2020 || I had a very productive week! Here are some accomplishments:
Reviewed chapter one of my thesis
Started reviewing chapter three
Read A cicatriz da tomada (Fernão Ramos, 71 pages)
Completed six lessons of Spanish
Read Camera Lucida: reflections on photography (Roland Barthes, 171 pages)
Walked one hour everyday
Watched three films: Branco sai, preto fica (Adirley Queirós, 2014), Elena (Petra Costa, 2012) & Sans Soleil (Chris Marker, 1983)
I’ll try to make a routine out of this!
Hope everyone is well and safe. 💛
I love this weather so much. I’m studying for uni, knitting my sweater and enjoying the view. It’s a lovely day 😋

With all the craziness in the world right now, it can be hard to feel motivated or productive. These are the things that I do to get myself out of a slump. Remember, none of these feelings are permanent 💜💜
When I’m trying to get out of a slump, the first thing that I do is get changed. Putting on a fresh outfit can make you feel re-energized and ready to be productive. Sometimes this means that I put on nice clothes and other times I just change into new sweatpants and put my hair up- it’s whatever will make you feel ready to work.
If I’m not feeling motivated, I have a really hard time getting out of my bed. By making your bed, you set a boundary with yourself that you can’t crawl back under the covers again. Also, you train your body to associate your bed with rest so it will be easier to get up and start working.
If you have a cluttered workspace, you have a cluttered brain. I always take 5 minutes before I start working to tidy up my space as much as possible so that I don’t get distracted as I work.
Having a cluttered computer can be just as distracting as a cluttered desktop. Whenever I’m working on a project, I usually have a bunch of tabs open and I get overwhelmed. Recently I’ve been bookmarking all my tabs in different folders so that I can exit out of them and find them easily.
Making a todo list helps to focus and prioritize your work so that you don’t spend as much time bouncing between tasks and wondering what to do. It’s important to rank your tasks in order of importance so that you are able to accomplish the items with urgent deadlines so I usually write my top 3 items first. Also, I’ve started a new system recently where I do all my tasks that will take five minutes or less first so that I can declutter my todo list right off the bat and immediately start being productive
Whenever you are feeling burned out or unmotivated, it’s important to value your feelings and be gentle with yourself. I like to journal about why I might be having those feelings and what small steps I can take to improve my mood.

✨ why a studyblr
I've been a passive part of the community for years now and it has helped me so much in terms of focusing on my studies and productivity. Given the current situation in which I essentially have no school but still need to study certain subjects, I'm hoping that it'll help stay focused. I also hope to be able to work more seriously on my Korean, and perhaps make a couple of friends along the way!

hi anaïs :) welcome to the community!!
Hi !! Thank you !
Hello, lovelies! I’ve gotten a couple of asks about studying so I decided to condense them into one post for you guys! I’m trying to hit a bunch of different topics so if you need an even more specific post you can send an ask! Without any further ado, have some tips! My studyblr is @spacey-scholar
Prep
First, you always need a good base for your day! Especially if you’re studying a lot.
Make a good full breakfast! Ex. Eggs and Toast, Smoothie and fruit, Pancakes and a cup of juice.
How’s your hygiene? Do you need to shower, brush your teeth, wash your face, condition your hair? Do it! You’ll be distracted if you feel messy!
Get dressed like it’s a normal day. Staying in PJ’s is okay! But being ready for the day seriously helps focus!
Likewise, your space should be clean. A clean space is a clean mind! Remove dishes, trash, scrap paper, and extra items. Wide down your desk, organize your pens and books. Your space should feel like your space!
Now make a list of what you need to get done! What needs to be done Now, what needs to be done Soon, and what needs to be done Later?
Order your list how you want your day to go, and don’t put super-tough subjects back to back, or subjects that are similar exercises i.e. reading thirty pages of two different books back to back is no fun.
The Studying
It’s important to buckle down with No Distractions! If you find yourself distracted put your phone away! If you need your phone, put it on Do Not Disturb until you’re done. I also do this at night for better sleep.
Pick the best technique for you, Pomodoro, reward-based, group studying, etc.
Play music but only if it will not distract you! If you sing along or daydream it’s the wrong music! Classical, Lo-fi, and White noise are all good! My Spotify Here has some good ones.
Use a nice journal (I don’t mean expensive!) and pens/pencils you enjoy using. I like to have a specific journal and color dedicated to each subject.
Take notes on recorded lectures and classes, if you’re doing online classes right now try to screen record or record the audio! That way if you space out you can play it later and take notes, and you can absorb the lesson better instead of being distracted.
Don’t worry about your notes, stationary, pictures, being beautiful and your grades being perfect. Life doesn’t always look the way it does on Instagram. And the people who spend hours trying to get a good photo of their coffee are not studying!
Use flashcards! Quizlet is good if you need premade ones! If you can save up and buy them, Barrons AP Flash Cards are the best in my opinion. Very clean, not too long, very durable, and cover all subjects.
Feeling Distracted
If you catch yourself drifting off and getting into your head, get up and take a quick walk, stretch, or energizer.
It’s okay if this happens, don’t guilt yourself! practice affirmation. The best and smartest still get distracted.
If you are drifting, why? Are you hungry? Tired? Thirsty? Bored? Get a snack and some water, take a break and rest, find a way to make your studying more enjoyable.
Remember that Motivation and Discipline are different things. Sometimes we just won’t be motivated, we won’t want to do it and it will be rather frustrating. But the cure to this is not shaming its discipline. Remind yourself “This may be hard, and I may not want to do this, but I want to reach my goals and If this is what It takes I will make it happen.
Always do just one more page of you’re tired. One at a time and oh you did it! Maybe just one more? One more? Eh, one more just to finish the train of thought, Oh just- I’m done? Nice!
If you really can’t focus just move on and come back to this subject, you can always ask for help.
Supplementary Things
There are so many apps you can use to study, for free! My favorites are Tide, Quizlet, Focus Keeper, Forest, Flora, Egenda, SpanishDict, Photomath, and Kahn Academy.
You can also join a study group! You may know one, but if you don’t, there are a lot of online ones! I’m in a study Discord and have been for a while! it helps a lot and motivates me to finish my work!
You can make a studyblr, but don’t do it just for the aesthetics! It’s about studying, and sometimes that gets messy! Sometimes we fail a test, we spill our tea on our notes, we cry because we don’t understand the formula. That’s the part you don’t see!
Having cute stationery can really help, as well as nice organizers and decorations for your space! I don’t have much money so I get a lot of stuff on Amazon or FB Marketplace.
Health
Remember that no matter what you are good enough. It’s okay if you fail, it’s okay if you struggle.
It’s also okay if your path doesn’t go the way you expected! Maybe you go to a different school than expected! Or choose a trade instead! Maybe you take a gap year! Maybe your passion changes! Maybe it changes six times!
Your health is always more important than your school. If you are in pain, mentally or physically, if you are anxious, exhausted, burnt out, talk to your teachers about it! You matter more than a grade.
Your best is good enough! And your best doesn’t look the same as someone else’s best! Don’t compare!
Now go get out there and study!
im looking for new studyblrs to follow since I restarted my studyblr so reblog this and I’ll check your blog out! ✨✨
