To touch on that, kind of, as Backstrom as a friend, what has he meant to you, through your years in Washington?

It kind of destroys me on the regular that Backstrom, who’s normally all deadpan and serious, cannot stop smiling and laughing when asked about Ovechkin, and Ovechkin, who’s normally joking and goofing off 24/7 goes deadly serious and intense when asked about Backstrom.

Like, they’re each other’s conversational weak spot. “Yeah, hockey, it’s gonna be a great season, best shape of my life, real good team we have here, lots of potential, good offeseason,wait, shit, oh you’re asking about him? WELL LET ME TELL YOU AT LENGTH ABOUT THIS THING I LOVE.”
