Hofstra in Venice 2016
The 2016 edition of the Hofstra in Venice blog will begin January 3.
Seeing Murano glass being made was one of the most interesting things I've seen on our trips to the outer islands. You can tell they take pride in their work.
Today we went to the outer islands of Venice! Burano was definitely my favorite; just look at those colors!!! If you're interested in living in a rainbow, you should probably move here.
Why Studying Abroad in Italy Has Ruined Me for Life
1. You live in a hotel, so you leave for class with a messy room and come back to a clean one. It's like magic.
2. You don't mind walking to class in the morning because everything is so beautiful.
3. Sometimes class ends early because you go on excursions involving food.
4. Speaking of food, CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE FOOD?! Seriously, I don't think I can ever eat normal ice cream again. (See gelato pics below.)
5. You don't usually have wifi, so this great thing called "socializing" happens.
6. No cars in Venice = peace = less stress.
7. No cars also = lots of walking = skinny = eating whatever you want.
Do I have to come home or can I stay forever?!
Ciao!
Hey y'all! So... I'm kind of late to this blog but I have a lot to say/post so hopefully I'll make up for it! My name is Sabrina Sutton. I am a junior drama major taking Italian 2 in Italy. Here's a quick summary of my favorite Venice moments:
1. Riding a gondola #checkedoffmybucketlist
2. Painting Venetian Masks
3. Touring the Doge's Palace
4. Making Our Own Pizza
5. Exploring the Fenice Opera House
6. Walking to Class Every Morning and Seeing THIS
Venice is honestly the most beautiful place I have ever visited. I think I speak for all of us when I say it has become our home!
We're chefs now! Today, the Italian 2 class had the distinct pleasure of learning how to make authentic Italian pizza. They dolled us up in proper chef attire and worked us through all the steps. La pizza e molta buona!
Ciao da Roma! This weekend, a bunch of the Venice students went to the historical, beautiful (and warm) city of Rome! The great thing about this city is that the train station and metro run straight to the colosseum, so it's quite easy to get here and it’s a sight to behold. You can access the colosseum, palatine hill, and the ancient roman forum. We were so fortunate to have clear and sunny skies for our excursion!
Cicchetti was delicious.
To all the birthdays that were celebrated during our time here. Happy birthday!

The view for the Rialto bridge yesterday.
Today, the group made traditional masks in anticipation for the Italian festival of Carnivale! After learning a brief history of the history of these masks (full of mystery), we got to pick our own masks and design them to our liking. The results were amazing! So much fun!
Mask making! Yesterday, the group experienced the exciting process of making authentic Venetian masks. After learning a brief history about the masks (why they came about, how they were worn, why they were banned, etc.), we were each allowed to pick our own masks out and decorate them in one of seven traditional styles. It was an incredible time!
