And it's finished! (Minus the keychain; turns out I need larger jump rings after all.)
I am pleased to inform you that LeBeau is already stuck on top of Kinch and Carter's stuck on top of Colonel Hogan 😂 I guess there's a bit too much space in there, but my only other option (one side layer instead of two) wouldn't have left enough space for them to move at all. Hopefully I can shake them free of one another.
Update: I popped the top off and I might try to put down a bunch of layers of sealant to see if that'll take up the extra space any. Probably not, but maybe it's worth a try.
UPDATE: it's finally finished! For realsies this time!
I sprayed it with a whole bunch (I didn't count) of layers of sealant, then banished it to the garage for a week because the sealant's got acetone in it which made whatever room the shaker was in smell like acetone 😷. I'm not really sure how much it helped, but I am noticing that, while the characters do still wind up on top of each other, it seems to be happening less frequently and it's somewhat easier to shake them free.
The other thing is that the characters now tend to stick a bit to the background, but a good shake/tap is enough to get them free.
I still have to run up to the craft store to get jump rings so that I can turn it into a keychain. The craft store's annoying to get to, so I'll probably wait until I need more stuff or have other business nearby.
I spoke too soon about being able to shake them free of each other :/
It's done for real this time! I promise! (Now with added keychain!)
I picked up some clear varnish/acrylic paint at Joann's the other day and (after testing it on the original version of the background piece that I messed up in the oven), poured a layer onto the background, let it dry over night, and then sprayed on one final layer of my aerosol sealer because the varnish dries kind of...tacky, I guess, and the pieces don't slide over it the way I'd like them to.
I probably put a bit too much varnish in the corners, but that's ok because the pieces still fit and they do still move around, though you kind of have to deliberately shake it for them to do so (i.e. they don't really move around much on their own).
If I were to do this again (I'm thinking about making a Man from U.N.C.L.E. one...no promises, though), I'd obviously skip the hundred layers of aerosol sealant which did nothing except for smell bad and try my best to put a little less of the liquid varnish on the background.

Change to the 2026 Papa Bear Awards.
The length categories (excluding novellas) and the Episode and Challenges categories will now be divided into two sub-genres: Comedy/General and Drama. I'm sorry to anyone who has already sent in a ballot, but hopefully this will make it easier for anyone who is still waffling over their decisions!
