The beach was alive with noise. The sounds of kids screaming for joy, the tinny music coming from the boardwalk, the sounds of waves lapping against the sand.
But the loudest noise was coming from the band playing on the beach. The hum of the guitar ebbed and flowed with the tides. The crowd jumped and swayed with the music, their energy building with each note.
No one in the crowd noticed him. They didn’t see the pale skin with blue creeping through his veins. He truly was a sight; too bad no one could see him. Well, they could see him if he tried to draw enough attention to himself, but he didn’t need to. He just floated there, content with just being there.
The band ended their encore. The lead singer waves his goodbyes to the crowd. The lead singer did this almost every performance.
Something was different this time. It might have been a trick of the light or just wishful thinking, but Holland swore that the singer looked him right in the eyes.
“𝕿hank you, Santa Carla! Thank you! Good night!”
Another show done and David was waving out to the crowd. Did that every night…Wide grin, baritone growl and all-Always looking out in the crowd for something…A fan alone to feed on, someone that interested him enough for talking-
Would’ve thought he’d seen a ghost from how he looked at the boy that caught his eye tonight. Could’ve sworn there was something there that night that didn’t belong. A little too pale, something faintly blue running through his veins barely seen in the light…
Didn’t see that every day…A boy that looked barely alive if he even was anymore. David winked at the boy, saving a frantic wave for him. In a crowd of people looking for the singer’s attention (which he was known to give to the fans that wanted to have him most, easy feeding for a hungry singer just beckoning to be drawn closer-) he was drawn to the boy not even looking for it…Just feeling the music like it sang under all that substance in his veins.
After the show, David was free to go wherever he wanted…Nothing holding him down until the sun came up to start another day. Seeing the boy nearby he chose to prowl behind him.
A whistle filled the air, a lazy wave from his gloved hand…Wasn’t trying to scare the boy, but known to have that effect on people when he came up to them from behind. The boy in front of him posed things he didn’t understand but wanted to.
“Take it you enjoyed the show, friend?”
