fuck heated rivalry man. because when i watched it for the first time, it had such an insurmountable amount of impact on me right away, and each time i’m rewatching, it doesn’t really diminish. it’s the first piece of media in many many years that affected me so profoundly, so naturally i started wondering why. not why i liked it, because it’s a much easier question to answer, but why it hit me like a truck and i’m still picking up the pieces. why do i have such a visceral reaction to certain scenes and lines of dialogue and situations? why do they resonate so deeply within me, on a much deeper level than just being moved by great cinematography and actors’ performances and interesting plot? and upon examining this phenomenon closely i realized that oh! a lot of stuff actually reminds me almost exactly of what happened to me at some point in my life! and oh! i never properly worked through these situations and my feelings about them for different reasons! and oh! this shit actually is that deep for me and opens up a whole pandora’s box of issues i’ve been unaware of! and oh! these situations might’ve been legitimately traumatic and now i have to unpack years of suppressed clusterfucks inside my broken little brain!
