Could use this to help with Mini-p’s nursery school, the need to get our winter tires put on rims (which would save us tire-changing money in the long run), maybe someday help me visit my family in the US again, lol… :) Between winter tires at the start of the year, needing to have the garage door fixed, needing a new dryer, then losing the nice subsidized nursery school program, etc…2018 has been a bit spendier than normal. D'oh.

Rain (any pronouns) is a genderfluid model & posts a lot about how their ability to “pass” as either a man or a woman influences them, and shows off the absurdity of double standards such as mens vs womens olympic uniforms and societal treatment based on perceived gender

They’re also incredibly patient with transphobes and other bigots, and much more so than most of us can manage and I think it’s amazing that they put up with what people say & do

I think a key here is that the parent did not hate their kid. They were scared of new info that challenged their worldview. They were afraid their child hated themselves. ravindovemodel is able to deescalate by not getting defensive and focusing on that core and reminding the parent that she does love her kid, did create a safe space for them to come out, and the loving and caring thing to do is to get them a binder so they don’t resort to other measures that could be harmful. Once the parent realizes there is no threat, her child will be happier and healthier with a binder, and ravindovemodel shows empathy and compassion the mother can feel ready to do research and help her kid.

The mother has learned something she can share with other parents and her kids friends when they come over. She’ll be an ally and her home a safe space.

Had ravindovemodel reacted with anger, defensiveness, and unkindness the mother’s fears would be reinforced and her child’s outcomes would be worse, and the home would be dangerous and unsafe.

A lot more people can be won over when we recognize and accept that having one’s worldview challenged makes anyone react negatively with fear and suspicion and anger, but once they can talk it out, focus on core values, and find sources of info on their own… it’s a huge help. Ravindovemodel was able to realize this wasn’t about them even tho the initial message/attack seemed to be. It wasn’t the heart of the issue. Truly amazing.
