Jaffar was rather surprised to see even a single tear fall down Legault’s face or that the man was expressing emotion at all that wasn’t vaguely jovial; he’d almost assumed Legault was broken in his capacity to feel and express emotions like himself.

Hesitantly and awkwardly, Jaffar asked, “what… is wrong, hurricane.” He didn’t know why he’d even asked, what compelled him to. Jaffar had no experience in this area and the two of them could hardly be considered friends or even allies. It just… seemed like something he needed to do.

"No," Jaffar answered, "I can ill afford to, wouldn’t you agree."

Jaffar awoke slowly and dully glanced around the room he was in; he didn’t quite recognize any part of it, or even having come here, beyond the fact that it was a tent of some sort. As he tried to get up from the cot where he lie, Jaffar realized that he had a hard time controlling his arms, his movements uncharacteristically clumsy; the blackout in his memory considered and with the realization that his vision was rather unfocused, Jaffar came to the conclusion that he’d been drugged. He wasn’t sure if it was the drugs or his usual attitude, but the revelation did not bother him as much as he supposed it should have. He just had to focus on getting away.

It was only when he attempted to stand did Jaffar realize he was in pain. It was a dull and distant sensation, but it was still there. As Jaffar continued trying to limp out in a haze, someone entered the tent—he recognized the boy as Nils almost immediately.

Blinking from the sudden brightness, Jaffar simply tried to ask, “What happened to me,” but forgot the words as he recalled them.

Jaffar stayed silent and simply stared at the summoner; he was right of course, but, as that was the case, Jaffar felt little need to say anything in return. It was rather common for people to talk at him. He did wonder if the man was a servant of Nergal’s, however. Very few people seemed to wield the power of selective teleportation and all but two of them he’d seen were under the control of Nergal himself.

"Before we get to business… I need to show you how to emote, my friend," Validar said. He usually was far more composed, but this man’s attitude left him a little bit absolutely livid. He pulled out an Elthunder tome, fully intent on zapping some life into this walking corpse of a man.

Glancing at Validar upon hearing the thinly-veiled threat, Jaffar recognized the spell tome almost immediately. Reflexively, he sought out the nearest source of cover, small as it was, deciding to forgo drawing his daggers for the time being—there was no way Jaffar would be able to close the distance between them fast enough for his weapons to be of use without risking serious injury.

"Still no reaction, eh?" he growled, sparks dancing on his empty hand, "Very well then, you leave me little choice." He raised his arm up, calling upon the power held within himself and conducting it through the tome. In an instant, lightning crackled free from him, sending a shockwave directly towards Jaffar.

That’ll teach him.

Jaffar’s hairs stood on end as the main wave of the spell just-barely missed its mark. Still, it had come close enough: a small course of electricity still found its way to him, and while Jaffar wasn’t greatly injured to his knowledge, his extremities, particularly his hands, had locked up slightly. Any chance of fighting back at this point was gone. He had to flee. Cautiously, he leaned out from his cover to see what it was this wizard was doing, hoping Validar hadn’t prepared another casting of the spell.

Jaffar stares at Knolls.

Knoll blinked and stared back at Jaffar, wondering what he wanted. “…Um…”

Jaffar had turned his attention from Knolls to the various tools and instruments that lie neatly around the room, very few of which he could even begin to fathom the use for—books aside at any rate but he couldn’t use those. Overall the room carefully arranged in such a fashion that, in spite of how obviously physically tiny and cramped it was, everything was clearly visible and the room looked more spacious for it.

A small utterance from Knoll brought Jaffar’s attention back to the man, though not quite fully; still observing the various implements, Jaffar muttered, “I have been told that you can see the future…” Turning his attentions to Knoll proper, he proceeded to ask, “can you also see the past.”

Knoll slid a book back onto one of the shelves. He continued to shelve books as Jaffar muttered. He barely heard him as he spoke but nearly dropped his books at his question. “The past….”

He kneeled and stacked the books he had dropped carefully then moved and sat down at the small table in the room. “The time shear spell could be utilized to view the past. Though Prince Lyon and I only utilized it to view the future and only for a short amount of time….I could speak to him about it though…”

Jaffar nodded in acknowledgement as he returned to glancing around the room. “I don’t think I’d need more than a few moments…” he responded quietly, “I…” Jaffar suddenly found himself doubting. He knew exactly what it was he’d be asking to see, but was it really something that he’d want to see? It was done, and there would be no altering anything, only musing over what could have been. Yet… the great question (as it were) was something that gnawed at him, and refused to leave his mind since it was conceived. 

"…thank you in advance," Jaffar finally said, hastily seeing himself out.

Jaffar was reasonably surprised by the sudden outburst, and, briefly making eye contact with Validar, dully responded, “…I do not… crave killing.” The strain of standing so on edge and tensed up was starting to get to Jaffar; shifting slightly, he began to look around the room again, asking, “you said you were in need of my skills: …what do you want.”

It would be a stretch to say that he was surprised he wasn’t recognized or that he was spotted, but Jaffar certainly didn’t have a back up plan here, either. Not really liking his odds if he were to make a dash for it and especially if he tried to cut this woman down, he decided to reveal the whetstone he’d picked up and simply said:

"My name is Jaffar. I am a member of this army."

He was a member of this army? Was he honestly telling the truth? Cordelia didn’t really believe him and it took a lot for her to actually believe someone especially since they could have possibly been stealing so many goods. From a prince, especially!

Cordelia narrowed her eyes at the other and frowned towards him. She lifted her guard and kept her focus on him.

"How come I’ve never seen you with us on the battlefield before…?"

He cautiously reached for a blade, sensing the other's continued mistrust. "...with... all due respect," Jaffar answered, slowly and carefully "it is my job to remain hidden... particularly on the battlefield." He maintained eye contact with her, if only to see if she took notice of the positioning of his hand. 

Don't you have a knight who does a better job at not being seen on the battlefield??? I don't see you questioning him.

Hell or Oblivion: Jaffar couldn’t decide which fate was more unsettling.

"...what would determine the difference between the bad and the worst," Jaffar asked; he wasn't quite sure what had stirred up this sudden contemplation of the afterlife. He'd all but dismissed the stories before. In a strange way, however, there was something about this Validar that made one think about such things.  Whether it was his demeanor or his teachings or something else entirely... well, it didn't matter. Jaffar would hear Validar say his piece on the subject.

Bathhouse Run-in - Panne and Jaffar

"Yes," Jaffar replied, removing his cloak as Panne slipped back into the water; he took notice of a tail she had, which made him realize she definitely wasn’t human. At any rate, he was mildly bemused by her resuming bathing, having assumed she was leaving. It was also a mild inconvenience to him, as he’d expected to be able to bathe in peace himself—Jaffar didn’t like the idea of lacking what little protection he had around others, after all—but at the same time, he didn’t really want to risk waiting and having others show up. He sat down as he weighed his options, observing the woman as he did so. There was what appeared to be a thick, leather chest piece near the tent’s entrance, but other than that, the woman seemed unarmed.

Panne sighed contently as she sank down into the water. After a moment, she sat up and tied her ears back so they wouldn’t get wet then sank down again, humming happily. It wasn’t often she relaxed so much. Especially when a human was around. She blinked and turned to the man, resting her arms on the edge of the bath. “….Why are you staring at me, man-spawn? Is there something on me?”

"I thought you were leaving," Jaffar muttered, as he traced over the wrapping on a glove absentmindedly, adding, "since you don't seem to be... would you be opposed to my joining you." The woman seemed surprisingly unabashed, so it seemed like a reasonable enough question. Still, Jaffar felt almost compelled to add: "I will not be long."

How about that! BOTH the hurricane and one of the mystery grey dudes saw fit to ask about Jaffar's fears. Lets go!!!

Of course, Jaffar fears for Nino's well-being at all times it is his primary source of stress and he may or may not have sprouted some grey hairs over it

Beyond that he does actually have a mild fear of the morphs and mildew, being terrified of turning into the former and associating the latter with an illness he had in childhood.
