I'm so tired of people excusing logical fallacies in TVL with "Nothing is REAL! It's all RETELLING! No one is objective and nothing is the truth!" Do you realize how weak of a narrative device that is? Don't you feel insulted that the writers would resort to something like this? To excuse their own poor writing choices? Nothing is ever real so we can change character's personalities, retcon events, shift time lines around, and you the watcher don't get to say anything, because NOTHING IS REAL.

It's like they're punishing people who were invested and cared about the show, almost as if going AHA! GOTCHA! like all I did wasn't ...caring about the characters and paying attention to what they spent two seasons setting up.

So I have not really been talking about this season because I just have not really been enjoying it. However with this last episode I think it’s really important to stress considering the intent of the writers.

In my mind we have gone so far past the point of thinking about why characters act a certain way in universe and instead need to start questioning why characters have been written they way they were.

All this to say, discord about the fictional aspects of the show are way less important right now then real considerations of the writing and authorial intent.

so they changed armands race not to say anything about the character or his history but PURELY to write him as a complete villain who abuses black characters and who effectively draws blame away from the white lead

i just cant get past it. they cast a brown actor not to do anything with his backstory* as a kid trafficked into europe for sexual exploitation, but simply to make him an over the top bad guy who seems to have gotten worse over the last 2 centuries instead of making any progress

they cast black actors as two main characters just to have one of them be subjected to extreme physical tortures that never happened in the books, and to make the other a lying manipulator who doesnt matter beyond her abuse serving other characters' stories

they set themselves up as the Thoughtful Nuance Show and then gave us this? they pretended they were taking these characters seriously and then butchered them on multiple levels, undid all their own work, bait and switched their devoted and engaged fans, and for what? tiktok jokes?

* and yes they bring back him being severely abused as a child just for a lazy 'thats why hes like that' which is all they seem able to do now. ramp up the the abusiveness of the characters and then say 'oh theyre all bad people because they were raped' like thats the pinnacle of emotional insight. gtfo

"You need a love that cradles you" - true, but now why should that love be Daniel for Armand? All that man does is verbally berate him violently with sexualized insults, look like an angry tomato and bowl. What have we even seen of the Devil's Minion except a fart and a promise? So pissed bro.

If there’s anything I hope this season accomplished is getting people to recognise the immense talent that is this cast.

I wanna see Assad, Jacob, Sam, Delainey, hell all of them in more big budget projects. I wanna see them flex their talents on the big screen, TV, stage, everywhere. I wanna see them play heartthrobs, freaks, comedy, just everything.

It’s so rare to have such a talented ensemble and I’d hate to see it go to waste after such a disappointing season.

The idea of creating the first Black vampires in a mainstream LGBTQ gothic drama show, knowing how important milestones in media like this are to Black people, infusing those characters with lovable qualities and relatable traumas, and then selling out to white supremacy and letting down all of your Black fans. This is just so sad and mean.

Lescels will kill me for this (some of them have wanted to for a while LMAO), but the theme of Failures is also such a spectacular failure. Not well thought-out, well-executed, or well-landed. Just a nothingburger of "sounds good, let's put it there"

Okay this is a minor thing and idk who else but another desi fan will even get this, but there's a moment of mirthless laughter from Armand in the TVL finale that is sooooo reminiscent of Shah Rukh Khan in Darr. Not even saying this cos of Daniel Molloy's quip in Season 2, but AZ is in fact channeling a lot of SRK this episode in my humble opinion.
