The most frustrating part about how much time and budget was devoted to the music and concert scenes is how underwhelming they are. I was expecting the kookiness levels of the Magnus video throughout. Or moments like him opening the door into the past to be music induced or on stage. The music really isn't doing much of anything so far. The Lonliness scene was confusing because Magnus left so...was that him coming to terms with his turning? Felt a bit unearned. Nicki smiles and stays so it definitely seemed like this was supposed to be an emotional payoff but. Nicki is still around and being mean so? What? Was it an emotional turning point or wasn't it? And why is him alone in his car enough to earn that when his reluctance to be honest with others was a major factor in why everything went so tragically to begin with? They were so scared of making a musical that they refused to actually incorporate the music into the script in a meaningful way so instead it's just narration into concert footage over and over. Oh but this time Lestat levitates!! Oooooh, everyone clap.
i honestly think the music career is just there to present lestat as desirable. the showrunners are covering all their bases. you have victim lestat, who was emotionally neglected by his mother, abused by his father & siblings, abandoned by the people he loves, one way or another -- and then you have the big, bold rockstar persona, who is there to represent this image of dominant masculinity, and is supposed to attract the rest of the audience who perhaps don't sympathize with his vulnerabilities.
the crazy thing is, i didn't hate show!lestat before this season. i disliked him at most. how do you give a character so much victimhood and still make him the least sympathetic character imaginable? well, they accomplished it. i feel nothing.
it's actually very in character that when louis brings up the opera and he doesn't even attempt to address the fact that he was made to attend as lestat's valet, lestat's only commentary is that he has fond memories of those times. it wasn't lestat who had to carry his hat and wait standing behind the seats for the lights to dim. will they adress this in a way that's serious and respectful in the show? the fact that they nodded at this moment in the teaser tells me they've said everything they wanted to say. on to the next joke, like the white mistress lestat kept as the side piece and was apparently so much more complex than what louis and claudia, who was almost killed by her, described her as.
they literally could've cut out all the concert & rockstar bullshit and they would've had a big enough budget for the important story beats. why is sam reid rotating his hips more important than all the character work in the books. it's so frustrating. they had the formula right there. make a documentary and let lestat talk in front of a camera with daniel and then flesh out the flashback scenes like in season 1 & 2. they had gold at their disposal

wait, with sam reid not being there (sorry sam), does that mean we'll actually get some jacob anderson & assad zaman interviews? are they letting them speak to each other, finally?
at this point louis and armand could throw the worst insults at each other à la real housewives of night island or whatever and i'd consider it a win because at least they'd be in the same frame together.
Every March or so I get sort of depressed and down (...), but then some time around June, I start saying “I should get a MRI, something should be checked”. My doctors, you know, they’re very, very kind and they said “Anne, your brain is really fine, but if you want a picture of your brain, we’ll take a picture of your brain”. So when I got these pictures of my brain, I thought, you know, why waste these? Why don’t we do a t-shirt? (...)
