Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961).
chrisxortiz:
Chris was itching. Not literally, of course, but he may well have been. The need to get on a plane and go somewhere anywhere was like a physical itch under his skin. It got like this sometimes… Whenever he’d stayed in one place for too long. He hadn’t left Westwick since he’d returned nearly six years ago. He’d told himself that he’d had to stay – for his mother, for his sister, because he was writing a book – but now that his family had finally realized that he was alive and as well as could be expected and everything on his end of the bookmaking process was complete, he really had no excuse. “So here’s what’s going to happen,” Chris began, balancing the weight of the dart in his hand. “I get on a plane to where ever this bad boy lands. You’re free to join me. Or not. Your choice.”
Looking over to this man, Holly was intrigued yet confused. The idea of placing your whole future in the movement of a wrist and the landing of a dart didn’t seem logical but that was possibly why Holly was excited by it so much. ‘’Oh? Join you on this same trip or join you on the darts?’’ She questioned, not really understanding the terms of this invite. ‘’But I’d so join you just because you seem so fun?’’ Holly laughed admittingly. ‘’I’m Holly.’’
mssheabarrett:
Shea chuckles as she looks up to see the bewildered face of the person who found her. For a therapist she did happen to get herself into some weird situations. “Would you believe me if I told you this was the gateway to Narnia?”
‘‘I would believe you but then worry why you didn’t get past border control.’‘ Holly cocked her head, unsure on what situation she was looking at. ‘’I’d offer my help but this is quite funny and I don’t know what it’s like smuggling people into Narnia.’’
lucxscasillxs:
He laughed, “Oh c’mon, I just said it was impressive, it has nothing to do with the genre, I’m just impressed by your very experienced liver.” He chuckled “ I’m Lucas, what about you?”
‘‘Me and my liver are the best of buds, except when she gets sick one day then we might fall out.’‘ Holly joked lightly, already accepting the consequences. ‘‘Oh well, live while we’re young...enough! I’m Holly.’‘ She grinned brightly to the other, wanting to hug him for no apparent reason other than the bubbles getting into her brain. ‘‘Awh, Lucas! Can I call you Luke?’‘
carmencitamendoza:
“Well no one knows your limit better than you, I guess.” The act reminded her of her early college days when she would watch in amazement at how the upperclassmen made a show out of how fast they could chug nearly a litre of beer and come out unscathed. Now that she was older, she couldn’t help but to find the act, odd. How someone was able to consume that much alcohol and be okay afterwards confused her but, if they liked it she loved it. “I’m sure I don’t have to ask if you do this very often… ”
‘‘As you can tell, I do, in fact, do this often.’‘ Holly laughed, unashamed of her drinking habits. ‘‘I drink more than I should but I do try to eat healthily and go to the gym and that crap, so I like to believe it evens it out!’‘ She laughed again, knowing that it wasn’t truly the case. No matter how many smoothies she drank, her liver would never forgive her for the alcohol. ‘‘It’s great meeting someone not to judge.’‘ She smiled sweetly at the other, ‘‘I’m Holly.’‘

kel-the-dad:
Kel didn’t flinch. He knew this was Holly, for every scenario he’d dreamt up of this exact situation, he’d always known she would come back like this. “Nice of you to pop ‘round.” He told her in a low, monotone voice. He knew he had to keep himself from getting too angry, he didn’t like who he was when he was that angry. “You can’t just make everything better, Holly.” The second he said her name, he knew he shouldn’t have. There was that lump forming in his throat, the shaking in his voice as he tried to control his emotions.
“You’re not coming into my house, you’re not going to see my kids.” Because they were his kids. He was the one who had stayed, the one there for every scraped knee, every bedtime story. “Do you even know what you did to this family?” He turned and paced a few steps away before walking back, closer this time. “Gee, I’m real happy to know you actually give a shit-” he was raising his voice now- “that would have been even nicer to know when you left me! I would ask if you have any idea what we’ve gone through, but of course you don’t, that would involve thinking about someone other than yourself. You don’t know about living on pb&j sandwiches, or about how every goddamn time someone knocked on my door, I was afraid it was someone coming to take my kids away. I don’t have time for your drama anymore, so why don’t you tell me what they hell you want so I can give it to you and you can be gone again.”
As his words came out, Holly shrunk slightly, taking small steps back from him, slightly intimidated by his anger and listening to each word, she felt an ache in her chest- something that rarely happened. ''I didn't think-'' Holly had to stop herself from talking as she knew exactly what she was about to say would make the situation worse. Holly didn't think that anything bad would come from her leaving or anything to that scale at least. ''I thought you would be okay on your own...Kel, I'm sorry- I didn't think things would be that bad but I guess I thought wrong.'' Holly frowned deeply, her words being nothing but the truth. ''Seeing you with the kids and doing all that...I don't know parent stuff and just being a good dad, I didn't think for a second that it'd get that bad.'' Holly began to feel ill, refusing to even look at Kel- was it guilt? Was it pity? She did not even know herself. ''You and the kids were just so perfect, I didn't think you needed me and that you'd get on fine.''
As she began thinking back to that morning her lip quivered slightly, remembering every thought that crossed her mind as she left. Not for a moment did Holly think the kids would care or miss her, she didn't want to that mum the kids hated or that mum that never paid attention to them- simply because she didn't care. Holly hoped she could have changed, hence why she stayed so long after the first baby but she knew she couldn't manage it. Holly was not mother material, it was hard but it was true- she wasn't even wife material. How could she stay around? But she knew now that possibly it would have been better if she did even if she had to lie, she was good at that. ''Kel, please let me help you all. I want to help, it's why I came.'' Holly began to beg. ''I'm not going to go again’’ She grew desperate. ‘’-and I'm not going to drop this. Yeah, I'm a shit mum- a shit person, if you will- but I still want to help. Give me a chance, Kel.''
carmencitamendoza:
After only a few days of watching her two year old niece (which in the brunette’s eyes felt like several years), Carmen was not too proud to admit that she needed a drink (hell maybe even a few drinks). Finding herself at some random bar with her famous choice of a gin and tonic in front of her, the only thing on her mind at that moment was to distress. Her plans for a mellow night of drinks would soon some to an end when she noticed a small crowd forming a mere seat or two away from her. She leaned in to see what all the ruckus was about only to find a woman downing pints back to back as if her life depended on it. The brunette emitted a snicker, almost in irony before a (more than likely unneeded) response flew out before she knew it. “Jesus, I cannot wait to be you in the morning.” she said before taking a sip of her own drink.
As Holly began finishing, catching an eye with the other woman, she grinned, ‘’I know but a headache never stopped me.’’ Holly gloated truthfully, there had only been 2 occasions that a hangover brought her down. The first time she ever drank and a college party- other than that she would always get up, no matter how bad she felt. She laughed slightly, her brain feeling bubbly as her legs wobbled.
mrgrayputnam:
He nods, “Yep she’s a little doll, six years old, do you have kids?”
At the question Holly stiffened, smiling still. ‘’No.’’ She lied. already had two but they weren’t with her. She knew maybe one day that lie would get her in trouble possibly but she didn’t care too much- Holly would simply lie again pretending to not of understood the question or create some sob story of her children being taken from her by some evil ex of her’s which too was also a lie. ‘’What’s your name then? Assuming you live around her.’’ Quick diversion. ‘’I’m Holly.’’
lnnxmcdonnell:
“You’re not supposed to put a bar’s worth of alcohol in your system,” he pointed out. There was no snark in his tone, just genuine concern that the woman was going to make herself sick. He held one hand out to grab her if she started to topple over, but her balance didn’t seem that far gone. Yet. “Are… are you sure about that?” Lennox could nearly feel how obnoxious he was coming off, but he couldn’t stomach letting something terrible happen to her without trying to step in. “Is someone going to pick you up? Everyone has a tolerance, you know, reaching yours is nothing to be ashamed of.”
As his concern showed it made Holly laugh slightly, not nastily, just because she was amused. ‘’Good point about er, the bar.’’ But as the man went forward to help her, her intoxicated mind didn’t allow her to fully understand what he was doing- was he grabbing her or helping? Holly was slightly confused and it showed. Listening further as she rocked slightly, she grew more confused, putting her cup down. ‘’Pick me up? Why would someone pick me up?’’ Holly lived alone with no family relatives or close friends established in the area yet, her confusion grew further as she thought about the question- was he suggesting she leaves or trying to look out for her. Holly was just so confused. ‘’I’m okay where I am, thanks.’’ She frowned shaking her head slightly, ‘’How are you?’’ In a not so smooth attempt to change the conversation, Holly soon moved over to the bar stool still looking at the man, sitting down.
ethanchambers:
“Not specifically,” Ethan started, straightening his back out and propping an elbow on the bar’s surface to look over towards her more, head resting against his hand. “But when you purposely make a scene, it tends to open that door for people to share their opinions. It’s not something to joke about.” His voice was stern but he wasn’t going to lecture her further than that. She had to be in or near her late twenties; she was more than mature enough to know what she was doing and what the consequences would be. “Good to know.” That was all he could manage, rather than inform her that what she did in her free time in this case did concern him. And even though he didn’t know her, it automatically felt like it was his responsibility to make sure she didn’t do something stupid. Maybe he just needed to lighten up but she rubbed him the wrong way the moment she started boasting and throwing drinks back like they were water.
Holly stared blankly at the man before her, listening but cringing at every word. From that moment she decided that he was an utter asshole. No matter what, if he had good intentions or whatever he thought he was doing to benefit her or if he was trying to belittle her, he was an asshole. Holly did not like this man one bit. ‘’You’re such a kill-joy, have you ever been told that?’’ She almost shouted, finishing her last drink. ‘Way to kill my mood, asshat.’’ Holly grumbled as she stumbled from one foot to another, moving away down the bar from the group of people. Her intoxicated mind made her incapable of being able to think straight or maintain one emotion- she went from angry to sad that this man made her feel so stupid in a matter of seconds. As Holly stumbled around, she muttered nonsense to herself which translated as more grief towards the stranger. The alcohol had got to her, not that she minded but it did make her look like a sulky child.
kairamalhorta:
She laughed along with her, loving the idea. “I should do that,” Kaira said as she kept thinking about it some more. “I mean, everyone loves an all you can eat buffet and she’ll be eating so much that I’ll actually get some peace around here,.” And on top of that it’ll be a blessing to Kaira the next time her cousin comes down to visit.
‘‘Exactly!’‘ Holly laughed, ‘’A good time for you, a good time for her and a quiet time for the both of you.’’

Holly always knew she was meant for something great so would never let anyone or anything hold her back from achieving what she felt was her ideal destiny- she never wanted simple. In fact, Holly hated simple, yet there she was growing up with a simple family, in a simple house and she hated it. An only child with two well off parents who thought the world of her, who followed family cliches such as ‘Taco Tuesday’ and going to mass every Sunday, going on one holiday a year and staying in a resort, only following the guide book. Was she spoilt, of course? Would someone else kill for her easy childhood, definitely? Holly didn’t know hardship.
In high school she glowed, academically average, astonishingly pretty, many throw away boyfriends and of course, being the star of every musical- even though her acting is atrocious. Holly slept around, snuck out to parties and did all your typically rebellious actions and her mummy and daddy forgave her every time. She was used to it- why wouldn’t they forgive her, she was their perfect baby girl.
Then college came, away from her family, away from her regimented lifestyle and honestly, she went slightly wild. There were more parties than study and she was on probation countless times. You could call her a rave girl through and through. A quiet weekend for her was a bar and one night that is where she ended up, beside a quirky yet handsome face. When introducing himself and stating they where one day to be married, she laughed but little did she know that was her true ending. His name was Kelton- a name she found funny, asking if he was a ‘hillbilly’. Unlike her other throwaway boyfriends, Holly couldn’t part with this one- he was infatuated with her and never could she let him go, unless he changed that was.
Within a year the two were married with a honeymoon baby, who she despised. Abigail- the ultimate mistake. Of course she cared after all she lugged the child around for nine months during pregnancy but how could she love a brat who ruined her body. It was a case of postnatal depression for sure but of course Holly would never seek help. She also hated the child for changing her husband into some pathetic sap, following the hand book of domesticity along with her own parents. She hated her and she hated the new him but then another came around, Ella. Holly hated Ella the most. Her body was a wreck, her husband was a bore and she had to go.
One evening Holly emptied their shared bank account, Kelton’s own savings and then left for as far as the gas meter on their car would take her. She was not staying there a moment longer.
Holly drove out of state, stoping and staying anywhere she could until she was in LA. The money was enough for gas and a deposit on a apartment, a few hotel nights to last until she could move in and the basic necessities. From there onward, Holly swore she’d find stardom as she knew she was destined for greatness- she knew it her whole life. Of course luck swept her off her feet and she had a few hits in music as the years passed. Success was sweet yet she felt something was missing.
Holly then went on the hunt for something new again, possibly a new place, a new location and possibly her kids again? Skewed intentions all the way.

kel-the-dad:
It had been a long night already. Both of the girls had too much energy and Ella was refusing to sleep while Abigail was practically bouncing off the walls and Kel was torn between trying to watch them, trying to finish his paper and trying to get the house decent enough that someone could at least walk through it. None of those things were going all that well, which meant that it wasn’t all that different from any other night, except that someone knocked on his door about halfway through his paper. Nobody ever came to his door, especially not at night. He supposed that might be normal for some other people, but him and the girls had long moved past other people.
“I’ll get it, Daddy.” Abigail told him, already running for the door. Kel pushed up from his chair at the kitchen table, a small space cleared out of the disaster for his computer, walked towards the door himself. “You know the rules, go hit the couch, kiddo.” He told her, and the seven year pouted on her way to sit back down. Of course there was already that little twinge in his chest, the one telling him that this could be bad. Who came in the evenings? CPS investigators came anytime, and what would he do to explain away the mess of his house? He didn’t have time, but he knew that he needed to make some. He steeled himself with a breath before he opened the door.
Of all the things he could have thought of, this never once crossed his mind. Kel immediately threw a glance behind him to assure himself Abigail wasn’t still standing there, then he stepped out and slammed the door behind him. “Shut up!” He told her first, as his brain tried to wrap itself around her presence. “What the fuck are you doing here? At my house? You think you just get to walk back in? My kids are in there and the last thing I need is for either of them to see you.” Good, he was angry at the moment. Anger meant it might be a few minutes before he started with the involuntary tears he knew would happen. Arms crossed over his chest, staring at the woman who had once been his wife, once been everything to him. He should have expected this from her, it was just like her to come back after a year and a half and act like nothing was wrong at all.
At Kel’s welcome, she didn’t feel very welcomed at all. As the door slammed, she jumped back with a nervous smile. ‘’Oh, I didn’t realise the welcoming committee had just left...Am I at the wrong house?’’ She laughed awkwardly, brushing her hair behind her shoulders, his words not getting to her one bit, just surprised was all. ‘’Kel baby, don’t be so mad? I came back, you could at least say ‘’Hello, Holly! Nice of you to pop ‘round’’ or something.’’ She sighed, briefly mimicking his voice and hand gestures.
Although Holly knew what she did wrong, she didn’t truly know. It was as if she wasn’t aware that what she did was bad enough to cause so much grief. ‘’Look, I know you’re upset but I’m here to make everything better!’’ She nodded with a smile, hoping it worked. ‘’Why don’t we like, talk or something, inside? Or I can come back later when our kids are asleep?’’ Holly couldn’t help but push the fact that they were also her kids, whether he liked it or not, without her, he’d have no kids. ‘’I came all this way.’’ She pouted, ‘’I thought you’d be happy in the slightest to know I care.’’
kairamalhorta:
“I know,” Kaira nodded, agreeing with her, though she was a bit miffed that she easeddropped, but got over it. “No one hikes all the time. They have other things to do, like go shopping or spending time with loved ones-even go on really relaxing trips where no hiking is involved, or just relax and have fun.” she said with a sigh. “And sometimes I just want to shove something in her mouth to have a couple seconds of peace.”
Holly laughed, glad to find a woman who was on the same wavelength as her. ‘’Exactly, I have better things to do than waste my time walking up hills.’’ She snorted, rolling her eyes lightly. ‘’Ooo, that’s an idea. Next time you have to see her go to an all you can eat buffet- then you can keep stocking up her plate with food to keep her quiet.’’ She joked.
