Lennox came from what some might call a broken home, a less-than-fortunate lifestyle. By the time he was two and a half years old his father had disappeared from without a trace, mailing divorce papers a week after he packed up and left. Even his memories didnât linger much longer than that. The childâs mind was to young to cling to them and with the lack of pictures, it didnât take long for him to forget what he looked like completely. The reason for his departure was unclear. Some said the man was too immature to raise a child, others said he was having an affair and chose to be with his mistress instead of his wife â who never did understand what caused him to leave and make a mess of the future theyâd planned together. After he got over the initial confusion of someone he seen everyday no longer being around, it didnât matter to Lennox. Not once did he feel like anything was missing in his life. He was raised by a parent that was the most caring, supportive and accepting person heâd ever met. She had a heart of gold and he never felt a loss of love in his life, a hole where his father was supposed to be. Her life revolved around his. The two of them made a good team and they built a bond most parents and children would be lucky to have. She was a strong enough presence to take the place of two people and Lennox didnât care how lame it sounded, he wasnât ashamed to admit that she was his best friend.
Up until he was twelve, the thought of losing her never crossed his mind. It seemed like a reality too far off to even worry about. Then, out of nowhere, his healthy, active mother suffered a stroke. Heâd just gotten home from school, he was having an afternoon snack and telling her all about his day. Nothing seemed abnormal. Then she hit the floor, hit her head and stopped breathing. It all happened so fast that he didnât remember calling for an ambulance but the woman on the other end of the phone kept him calm enough to successfully do CPR and get her lungs working again. The paramedics showed up minutes later. By nothing short of a miracle his mother pulled through with no serious brain damage, and Lennox had no doubt that had it not been for the 911 operator he would have lost her. It was a decision that practically made itself. He was twelve years old and he knew exactly what career path he would take. He wanted to save people. He wanted to be the calm and collected person that helped a panicking child take care of their family member until help arrived. It wasnât as exciting as his old dreams of being an astronaut or as glamorous as being an actor like his fourth grade self had fantasized about, but it was something he knew would make a difference, and that was the most important thing he could do.
Heâd always been a loving and positive guy, to the point that sometimes it could come off artificial, forced, or maybe even a little⊠annoying. But as time went on he found more reasons to be that way, more people to care about, more things to enjoy. He looked at everything like a lesson. Lennox believed that even the smallest of details came to be for a reason and for him, he didnât have to search hard to figure out what they may be. His dad leaving, getting into theater, meeting the friends he did make, nearly losing his mother. He found reasons to take absolutely nothing for granted and to appreciate what he had, no matter how much or how little it may be. Life was what you made it. You were the person that you decided to be, and heâd known exactly who he wanted to be ever since he could remember. After graduating high school he became a 911 operator like heâd hoped but he never stopped learning while he worked. At some point he planned to go back to college but until then, he was happy soaking in every bit of knowledge he could, whether that came from acting schools, pottery classes or his overflowing bookshelf all with a wide smile on his face. If there was a way to win at life, Lennox McDonnell liked to think â and hope â he was doing just that.
â compassionate, dependable, wise
â adamant, gullible, perky
