âi think if i ever worked on wall street i would just get like, trampled. iâm not enough of like, a baller or whatever. you know that guy off wolf of wall street? can you imagine that being me?â he rolls his eyes jokingly before smiling toward her. his stomach knots up again as she mentions him ever having a wife and kids and it feels almost like heâd been kicked in the guts, or in his back - but the back pain was real. the thoughts were just painful in a whole other way. things he wouldnât get to experience. âmaybe i do wanna be a daring bachelor.â he smiles softly, not even bothering to imagine himself as one. he kinda stood in a weird limbo now, not wanting to get too attached to people. but also never wanting to be alone. that was why he was here now. âyou better stick around, iâll follow you around like a sticker stuck to like.. the bottom of your shoe or somethinâ.â he smirks, his stomach less knotted and instead flipping as she says the words âi love noah heart,â words they have both spoken to each other many times, but it felt more real even though nothing had changed. âyou do look weird.â he laughs a little, his pointed finger coming up for brush a flake of herb from her jaw which had fallen from the lasagne. âherb head.âÂ
ânooo, donât pack it up.â he puts both palms down on the table and purses his lips together as though thoroughly contemplating something. âroomies not home tonight, so i might crash here and see how long it takes kitty to notice.â it was common knowledge by now that noah hated to be alone - for no good reason. he was either staying at junoâs, with holly or with kitty. basically anywhere he could lay his head without thinking too much. he follows her into the kitchen anyway, leaning against the counter on his side. ây-yeah?â his brows furrow a little and he plays with his knuckles, a smile on his lips that was meant to say, ânothing is ever wrong.â âyou can tell me anything too. is everything okay?â
âwell, i wouldnât know seeing as iâve never actually seen wolf of wall street, but i suppose iâll take your word for it seeing as i donât think i have much authority over what is and isnât baller.â holly replies jokingly. the word baller probably sounds foreign on hollyâs tongue and she knows it, but well, just because holly was popular doesnât mean she was ever actually cool. and sheâs made peace with that. her eyes narrow a bit at noahâs reply, her lips pulling into a little frown even as her eyes twinkle with her mirth. she gently takes noahâs hand, uncurling his fingers until she can trace the little heart she drew on his palm as she says, â... well, i think your heartâs too big for you to be a daring bachelor forever. youâre gonna fall in love eventually and then...â hollyâs brows arch as she shakes her head in amusement, fingers idly playing with noahâs as she continues, âitâs gonna be all over. youâre gonna have to kiss all your bachelor dreams goodbye then, trust me.â holly nods confidently to punctuate the words, her fingers interlacing with noahâs loosely for a moment before sheâs catching herself and pulling back once again. her lips twitch a bit at noahâs metaphor, eyes crinkling with her slowly growing smile as she says, âwell, how can i argue with a statement like that? i guess i have to stick around now. like... gum on the bottom of your shoe. even more permanent. a little bit more annoying too.â holly nods in approval at the comparison. her eyebrows raise at the teasing, a laugh escaping her as she says, âoh, so i am being bullied.â she scrunches her face as noah moves to pick the herb off, only to pout a bit at the teasing. â...mean. letâs see if you get that gnocchi now, mister. herb head might go on strike.âÂ
noah sounds a bit like a little kid who doesnât wanna go home yet and honestly the thought brings a smile to hollyâs face even as she continues to neatly pack up the lasagna, even if she only ends up putting it in the fridge. the idea of noah staying over is honestly more appealing to her than she would like to admit, but the even the purse of her lips canât smother her smile. â... oh yeah? well, thatâll only improve my plan to make sure you donât go out via froot loop. after all, i was planning on making cinnamon bun pancakes tomorrow morning, so...â holly doesnât mean to bribe noah into staying, but maybe thatâs what sheâs subconsciously doing. itâs not on purpose. but if it helps, well. sheâll take it. she frowns a bit at noahâs response to her question, glancing at him for a moment before sheâs moving to finally stop fiddling with the casserole dish and hop up on the counter beside him. âi mean... yeah. things are pretty okay. me and my mom are still, you know, arguing. and my dad stood me up the other day, but thatâs nothing new.â holly nudges noah with her knee, gentle as she says, â... your turn. are you okay?â Â
