Maker/Mender Concept Board
Making/Mending
Brief: “What sort of world will we be living in years from now? For this project, you are required to think and function as a trend forecaster/future-thinking designer where the emphasis is on creating textiles for the year 2030 and beyond.”
Initial Concept: (Making/Mending) A collection of hand woven fabrics that can be repurposed through a variety of new and old textile methods while retaining commercial viability. Conclusion will include examples of these mending/reworking methods in the samples. Fast fashion has a high human and environmental cost attached, while slow fashion is often too expensive to be widely adopted. Collection must either be affordable or justify cost by displaying high quality of fabric and ways of extending it’s wearability or use.
Additional Concept: Research current communities teaching or adopting these practises of remaking. Explore ways to encourage more people to learn these skills and adopt the practise of reworking textiles.

@christianfischbacher
The design for Amos was derived from “Itajime shibori”, a traditional Japanese dyeing technique that produces a batik-like pattern. Printed on a flame-retardant Trevira CS, this fabric is particularly suited for the high-end hospitality market.

Thank you to the beautiful @antipo for your help modelling throughout my project!
It’s over!
We had the opening night yesterday and on Monday it will officially be the end of the course. I’ve had an amazing year and I’m so proud of the work I’ve done and excited for heading to Falmouth next. Thank you to everyone who came to support me yesterday night I really appreciate it!
If you’re in Nottingham the gallery will still be open from the 24th-25th June 10-8pm at NCN Stoney Street in Hockley, it’s a fantastic show and definitely worth a look!
