Gilbert did not turn when Y/N called his name. He kept walking, despite the pleas that echoed in the woods. Did it hurt him to leave? Yes. But was he going to stay? No.
“Gilbert. Gilbert, please! You have to believe me!” Y/N cried with cold tears running down their face. With their eyes swollen, runny nose, and shuddering figure it was almost hard for him to not stop and hold them in his arms.
Almost.
Y/N mentally cursed and sped up, reaching for his shoulder.
At the very minute they made contact, Gilbert snapped. He turned around, pushing their grip away harshly. They each shared the same teary eyes, but for very different reasons.
“How could you! And how could you have the audacity to even make me feel sorry for you?” He shouted at them. While pointing behind Y/N, he had trouble speaking his next words. “You... you hurt me!”
They shook their head. “No, no. I didn’t mean to hurt you. You have to believe me, Gil, please-”
“How could I even believe anything you say right now? Why should I?”
Y/N was at a loss for words. “Because... because-”
His eyes narrowed and he let out a sound of disbelief. “What? Are you going to say that you love me? That you’ll never do it again?”
They lowered their head as more tears fell. Guilt was heavier than love. That was very much prominent at the moment.
Gilbert closed his eyes briefly, trying to relieve some tension. “If you had actually loved me, you wouldn’t have even thought about kissing anyone but me.”
His quiet, heartbroken voice absolutely shattered Y/N’s heart. They covered their face with their cold hands. It wasn’t the pain they felt at the moment that caused so much distress. It was the fact that they had hurt Gilbert, and that there was no excuse for it.
“I’m sorry.” They cried. “Please believe me.”
His eyes fluttered open. They looked so vulnerable. It was almost pitiful. He hated to see them cry. It was the last thing he’d ever want to see. Gilbert wanted to reach out, and hold them in his arms and mend them both back together.
But that was impossible now.
He took in a deep breath. The chilly weather surrounding them both was suffocating them. He could feel the sun setting, and wondered how life would be when he saw it again.
Y/N couldn’t bear to face Gilbert. It was devastating, but it was no one’s fault but theirs. They would have to live with that guilt until they died. Would I remember it, they wondered, after so much time had passed?
Their hands fell to the side when they felt warmth. Looking up slowly, Gilbert had removed his jacket and placed it around their shoulders. He then removed his scarf, wrapping it tightly around their neck. He pulled away with no emotion.
“I hate it,” he mumbled. “How I still want to love you. I hate it so much, it’s just about kills me.”
Without meeting their stare, he turns around and continues to walk through the woods, leaving Y/N alone with the last bit of warmth they would ever receive from him. It was a goodbye, an ending, for them.
Y/N’s shoulders shook as they watched his figure disappear slowly with the sun. Their hand clamped over their mouth to suppress a sob, but their knees trembled and they fell to the ground.
Yes, they concluded. They would remember the guilt for the rest of this life, and the next.
Hi! So I love your writing. Honestly I think out of all the Gilbert imagines yours are BY FAR the best. They make me so happy. I was wondering if you'll be writing any more?
That means a lot, thank you!! And yes, it has been a while but I have decided I will continue writing :)
so I admit, for the past few months I’ve had writers block and didn’t like how my writing was coming out, but the new season of awae has sparked a sudden motivation for me and let’s just say, be on the lookout for some imagines ;)
a/n: it’s em and this is my first official post on this acc (ps it’s quite bad)
requested: no
warnings: kissing, bad literature
••••••••••••••
i examined the room before carefully opening up the paint tins. there was something strangely satisfying about opening them. i got about myself with painting the small wall just across from the window. the sun was just beginning to set and i could here 80’s vinyl playing at full blast downstairs in the kitchen. my idea of a perfect sunday afternoon.
soon i felt a presence behind me. spinning around, i was met with the soft, warm lips of the curly haired boy i’d come to love. soon i was distracted and the paintbrush fell from my hand in a daze causing wet paint to splatter all over our feet. both of us burst out in infections giggling.
~This is just a short little drabble to get me back into writing, which I am doing now :) Expect like two more of these before I eventually post a request, and thank you to those who are still waiting.
My fingertips were numb and barely moved an inch. I clasped my hands together and brought them towards my lips where I did my best to warm them up. However, that only made it slightly better.
“I’m here!”
I turn to face the curly brunette with a scowl. “You’re late.”
He chuckles. “I apologize. My father needed my help, were you waiting long?”
With pursed lips I raise my chin. “Of course not. That would be silly if I waited exactly an hour and twenty three minutes for you.”
“Yes, it would.” Gilbert smiles, and as he talks, I can see his breath.
He unwraps his scarf and walks toward me through the snow, tying it around my neck. “You’re nose is red and runny, and you’re shuddering, my dear.” Gilbert says. “You should’ve just left.”
I sniffled and shrugged my shoulders. “I thought about it. But then if you were to come you would yearn for my presence all alone in the cold.” I rub my hands together as we begin to walk to no particular destination and imagine the warmest place on Earth.
“Should I hold you?”
Of course I stop in my tracks and whip my head around. “What did you just say?”
Gilbert smiles. “You’re freezing, aren’t you? Well, the least I can do is offer some heat to the damsel in distress.”
“First of all, I am not in distress. I should hurt you for saying that.” My voice is shaky, yet I gulp.
He tilts his head to the side. “Second of all, I should hold you?”
At this moment, my pride was the last thing I was concerned about, but I couldn’t let him have it easy. So I simply sighed and turned my back. “If you wish, Gil.”
It only took a few seconds before my back was against his chest and his arms encircled my waist, reaching for my hands. “You know, you really should dress properly for the weather. I mean, your hands are really cold.”
a/n: yes it is me, the terrible writer who literally posts once a month. sorry, sorry, and did I mention sorry? anyway hopefully I can be more active and not only write at 1:37 am on a Saturday night but knowing me... anyway bye, enjoy, see you next year (yes you can kill me for that horrible joke, I'm sorry)

I wipe my palms on my pants, but it hardly gets rid of the sweat. My heart is pounding so hard I’m afraid my chest will explode. But nonetheless, I take a deep breath, and walk into the classroom. All the noise that was just there a second ago vanished, and now, several eyes are on me. I give a small smile, and wave my hand shyly.
“Hi.”
Ruby is the first to speak. “Y/N! You’re home!” She runs right toward me, crushing me in a hug. I squeeze back, relieved with the reaction.
As I pull away, I pull Diana in for a hug too. “Glad to have you back, Y/N.”
I nod. “I know, I’ve missed you all so much.”
Several of the boys acknowledge me and wave as Diana and Ruby lead me to the front of the classroom. I stand there awkwardly since I still can’t believe I’m back. It’s been a while, and I’m scared things have changed.
“Attention, everyone! Now that Y/N is back, we must all respect and help her out. She’s been gone an awfully long time, and we all missed her dearly.” Diana speaks out, latching onto my arm. “I’m so happy to see you!”
I laugh, patting her arm, then avert my gaze. My eyes scan every inch of the classroom, but I cannot find who I am looking for. I would think that that person would be in school already, but maybe not.
Ruby stands in front of me, “Gilbert’s not here.”
“Who said I was looking for Gilbert?”
“Honey, as smart as you are I would assume you’d know people can read each other’s faces.”
I chuckle, moving some hair that had fallen out of my braid into my face. “Wow, Ruby. You really hit the books while I left.”
“Your absence affected her a lot.” Diana commented. “And Gilbert won’t be coming to school for a while. His father is sadly ill.”
My eyes softened. “Oh. That’s a shame. Maybe I should visit him later.”
They both nodded, agreeing with me. I smiled, joyful to be with them again after what seemed like forever. No school is worth leaving them, not again. I had been so lonely when I left, and I began to remember everything single detail about everyone. Now that I’m here, I feel whole again.
The door is suddenly slammed open, and I see a flash of red and hear a loud voice. “So sorry I’m late! I was interrupted by the thought of flying with the birds that I unfortunately lost track of time! I started to run, but that was terribly difficult seeing as I have toothpicks for legs! I solemnly swear I shall never, EVER, get distracted on my way to school EVER again!” A girl around my age breathed heavily as she stopped talking, overlooking the classroom. “I am not late, am I?”
Diana hummed and smiled softly. “Well, this is Anne.”
-
Nervously I knock on the wooden door, wondering if this is a good idea. I mean, it couldn’t possibly hurt, but perhaps I should’ve given a notice before my visit. The door opens and I look up, meeting a familiar face.
“Hi.” I smile, sheepishly. “Uh, hello.”
“Y/N Y/L/N. It has been an awfully long time.”
Again, I smile at Mr. Blythe, chuckling a bit. “Yes, sir, it has.”
“I’m afraid Gilbert isn’t home, I had him run a few errands-“ he’s unable to finish his statement as he bursts into a fit of coughing. “S-sorry, ugh, my apologies.”
I reach out toward him, leading him back instead. “You shouldn’t strain yourself. It’s bad for your health.”
He laughs at my concern. “Thank you, dear. But honestly, I am perfectly fine. A little cold, is all.” Still, Mr. Blythe allows me to help him into bed, sighing as I tuck him in. “Thank you. It’s been quite the struggle when I’m alone. The boredom is always present.” He chuckles. “But anyway, how is my future daughter-in-law?”
I blush at the statement. “I believe you have us wrong, sir. Gilbert and I are just friends.”
He shakes his head. “Your words say one thing, but your actions say another.”
Instead of being able to say something, I hear the door open with a familiar, but deeper voice. “I’m home!”
My throat swells up, yet I stand up straight and force a smile. Gilbert walks in while taking off his scarf. When his eyes land on me, he stops, blinking twice. His expression makes me laugh, and I give him a small wave. “Hi, Gilbert.” The boy sure has aged well in the past year. I see I’m no longer taller than him.
His father glances between both of us. “Ah, son. Your girlfriend has returned home.”
“Yes, I see that.” He mumbles, looking down. “Y/N, wow. I-I can’t believe you’re home.”
“You and me both.”
It takes a while for him to get comfortable, but soon he clears his throat, and walks toward me. “You’ve been gone for a long time.”
I smile. “Yes, I’m aware.”
Mr. Blythe coughs, and we both look toward him. “Well, if you children could leave this poor, old man to rest, that would be lovely.”
Gilbert sighs, but nods. “We’ll be right outside.”
I follow him, and we stand on the porch in complete silence. I guess it has been a while. Usually we would be able to start a conversation about a stupid rock I saw, and now I can barely mutter one word.
“The boys,” He starts. “the boys missed you.”
I was hoping someone else missed me too, I thought. “I know.” I say with a smile. “I saw most of them today.”
Gilbert nods, scratching the back of his neck. Again, it’s silent for who knows how long. I can understand it being awkward at first, but now he’s not even making an attempt to break the silence. Rolling my eyes, I decided the do something since he won’t.
“I missed you.”
“I missed you.”
I laugh and am caught off guard. “Was that so hard to say?”
He rolls his eyes with a smile. “No, really, Y/N, I missed you. There wasn’t a day that I didn’t think about you.”
Once again, I blush. “I could say the same thing. It was pretty boring without you.”
“Of course it was. After all, aren't I the dreamy Gilbert Blythe?” He mocks.
“You sure are. Looks like puberty did you well.”
The playful smile is wiped off his face and is now replace by a cocky smirk. “You think so?”
I shrug, turning my back to him. “Maybe, but it did me better.” Once I turn back around, I notice him looking off into the distance. “Gilbert?”
He points at the trees. “Does it look like someone is hiding there?”
Following his gaze, I spot three people hiding. Figuring they could only be certain people, I roll my eyes, and cup my mouth, shouting, “Spying isn’t a very healthy habit!”
“Then kiss already!”
I scoff, shaking my head. “Delusional.”
“Maybe Diana’s right.” He says.
I have never turned my head so quick. In fact, I even hurt my neck. “What?”
He steps forward, obviously very confident now. “Well, I mean, that is with your consent. Whose to say one of us won’t leave for a year again? We’re always leaving, by time we actually both settle down it’ll be time to get married.” Gilbert avoids eye contact when he mumbles his next works. “Maybe I don’t want to get married to anyone else...”
Now I’m at a loss for words. It's not every day the boy you’ve liked since you were nine says he doesn't want to marry anyone else. This is probably the best thing that’s ever going to happen to me.
With a sigh, I earn his attention. “About that kiss,” I pause, just for suspense. “Why don’t we take things slow first?”
A smile forms on his face, followed by the cutest chuckle ever. “I’d liked that.”
Grabbing his hand, I nod. “Me too.”
Sadly, the moment was ruined when we heard a faint, “Finally!”

“Hey,” Y/N sat next to Gilbert with a smile, moving her hair from her face. “What’s with the look?”
He wanted to tell her he’d been thinking about her. He wanted to say that he is always thinking about her. About how her hands clench into little fists when she gets cold, or how her laugh takes a while to die down. Gilbert wanted to tell Y/N all these things. But instead, he gave a fake smile, and shook his head.
“Nothing at all. What’s up?”
She sighed, nudging him slightly. “Nothing, just bored. But, I’m always bored, so that’s not new. And usually when I’m bored, you know how to make me un-bored, so work your magic!” She excitedly jumping in her seat.
He looked away, shrugging. “Well, yeah, but class is going to start soon. We should- we should get ready.”
Her smile dropped, and she whined. “What? No! Class isn’t exciting. Let’s just skip. Just today. It’s not like missing one lesson will kill us-“
Gilbert’s head snapped toward her and his voice raised, “Y/N, no. I don’t want to leave.”
She flinched at the sudden tone, but then relaxed. “Sorry.” Her voice had lowered to a whisper now, and she got up, leaving his side of the classroom.
He closed his eyes briefly, then began to take out his books and board, organizing his supplies on his desk over and over again to past the time. Or maybe, it was more of a distraction. Gilbert felt bad about making her uncomfortable, considering he didn’t mean to. His words just came out harsher than he had meant.
Everything stopped when he heard a familiar sound. It echoed in his ears and didn’t go away. Gilbert gulped, and turned around, seeing Y/N in a corner with a kid named Timothy. The latter seemed to be a nice kid and all, but he had never before even talked to her, according to Gilbert’s knowledge. However, the two of them were laughing and talking as if they had known each other for years, just like Y/N and Gilbert. It outraged him, and he tried to control his emotions.
Nothing was working. His leg bounced up and down furiously under the table, and his ears grew red. Where could the teacher possibly be? Why can’t the day start already? If he had to hear her laugh for a minute more, Gilbert would lose it.
His wishes were granted when he didn’t hear it. In fact he didn’t even hear them talking. He turned around quickly, seeing them missing from the building, and Gilbert shot out of his seat, running out the door. Sure enough, Timothy and Y/N were both walking away from the school, and his heart pounded.
“Y/N!” He shouted, running towards them.
She stopped walking at the mention of her name. “Gilbert?”
He stopped in front of her, glaring not so subtly at Timothy. “What are you doing? Come on, let’s go back in.” Gilbert wrapped a hand around her wrist, beginning to drag her back in, but the other boy interrupted, tugging her back.
“She doesn’t want to go, and we have plans.”
Gilbert eyed his latch onto Y/N, and he shook his head. “I’ll give you five seconds to let go of her.”
She rolled her eyes, sighing at their actions. “You guys are idiots.”
Timothy smirked, this time pulling Y/N completely away from Gilbert. “I️ said we have plans. Now, the lady is more than welcome to refuse and go back inside, right, Y/N?”
She bit the inside of her cheek, sheepishly grinning at Gilbert. “Take.. notes for me?”
He stood there staring at her, watching as she gave an apologetic smile and began to walk off. Gilbert felt defeated and exhausted and tired and... and... and completely stupid for what he was about to do.
Within a few seconds, he was walking forward, grabbing her arm and gently turning Y/N around. She began to question him, but had no time as he pressed his lips against hers, holding her close. Her eyes widened, but for some reason, she didn’t even try to escape from him. Y/N actually fell into his embrace, her hands holding onto the hem of his sweater.
Gilbert pulled away from the kiss, his eyes fluttering open slowly, a thousand thoughts running through his head, but he couldn’t seem to think straight at the moment, and instead, let out a shaky breath. “I -I...”
Y/N nodded, her eyes never leaving his. “I suppose I could stay for today’s lesson.”
