someone had been holding the username holygrammar for the past few years. so i randomly came back here and checked out of habit, only to find it was finally freed up and it just all feels symbolic somehow. like i’ve come home

There’s this really silly notion that some of you seem to have that Black Mirror-style anxieties about things like artificial intelligence or social media originate mainly amongst Luddites or old men afraid of progress or whatever; when in fact a great many of the people I know who are most worried about such things are utopian idealists who work in tech fields. Like, these are experts who understand the good that this technology could be used for…and also understand that it’s probably not going to be used for good under the present politico-economic model.
