rlly fascinating phenomenon to me is when a character is extremely popular, and that popularity seems understandable enough because they've got something interesting going on, and then you look at the fandom and realize 99% of their fans don't actually care about engaging with any of the things that make them interesting and instead seem to be fans of an imaginary milquetoast version that exists solely for ship and/or angst content and is so far removed from the canon character they might as well be an unrelated OC at this point

i do enjoy how, among many other things, the pluribus incident reflects how grief for a spontaneous, unforeseen death feels irl. like you’re the only person who has experienced the sudden overturn of the entire planet, everyone else is going about their days and you just want to grab the world by the shoulders and yell at them for it. and then everyone else starts acting weird around you because your life has irreparably changed

men who immediately discard lae’zel are legitimately so weak. “she’s racist” she is offering you the solution to your tadpole problem despite you not being a gith. “she’s mean” she is literally offering you the solution to your tadpole problem despite you not being a gith. men are legitimately unable to objectively and rationally look at a situation when a woman is involved, and project intention onto them based on how attractive they are and how nice they are. it’s never about how good women are; it’s never about what behaviour they display or what actions they take, it’s literally just about how niceys the words they say to men are. pathetic!

to be clear since this is making the rounds: she has to be an absolute loser in no way that can be pinned on her gender. no "i'm just a girl tee-hee" stuff. straight up just a loser (nondenominational)

I decided to sit down and concentrate and properly write the list of rules that qualify a character for this role.

FIRST LAW: This character must be a woman.

SECOND LAW: This character must be a loser, but not in a way that can be pinned on her gender. Misogynistic response from the audience does not disqualify the character.

THIRD LAW: If the audience does not enjoy this character, then it becomes impossible to enjoy the show/film/book/game altogether. It is not possible to ignore this character, for better or for worse.

FOURTH LAW: The character must make bad decisions, and not just be a victim of poor circumstances outside of her control. The character can also be a victim of poor circumstances outside of her control, but it has to be primarily her personal choices that deem her a loser.
