Hello there! I'm so excited to have gotten an ask! I love getting these, and I'm thrilled you're choosing me to help you with learning about deities!!

I'll talk about Lord Hypnos first, but if you'd still like for me to make a master post accumulating everything I know about Lord Apollon, let me know and I can totally do that for you (and anyone else who might want that :D )

Hypnos' Mythology Rundown

Hypnos is the God of sleep.

His Roman equivalent is Somnus, their mythological and physical differences are very minimal, meaning they're essentially the same deity with different names.

He is the son of the Goddess Nyx, personification of night, and twin brother of the God Thanatos, God of death.

He lives in Erebos, a cave in the underworld that is the source of the river of forgetfulness.

He married Pasithea, one of the Graces. They had given birth to the Oneiroi, or, the Dreams.

Hypnos has the ability to put people to sleep. He uses this power twice in his most famous written mythological accounts. The first time was to distract Zeus while Hera messed with Herakles, and the second time was to put Zeus to sleep during the Trojan war, so Poseidon could help the Greeks to win.

Veil

- The day of the moon is the only full day I veil! I do it as a devotional act to Hekate

Clean my home

- I like to clean my home to get rid of stagnant energy and welcome in the new. It's the time of the month that I like to deep clean/clean things I've been putting off

Cleanse my home

- Similarly, I like to smoke/sound cleanse my home to get rid of any negative spiritual energy in my space

Clean my altars

- Going along with cleaning, I like to remove old food offerings from my theoi's altars. I dust and reorganize their permanent altars. I also reorganize/restock my working witchcraft altar

Renew/Remake my money bowls

- The new moon is a perfect time to make money bowls! It allows new money and opportunities to come into your life! I love doing money jars or making money bowls that I keep near my front door or on my witchcraft altar

Give offerings to Hekate

- As I, and many others, associate the new moon with Hekate, I like to give her offerings during the new moon. Offerings to Hekate could include but are not limited to: garlic, leeks/green onions, incense, keys, eggs, wine, prayers, hymns, and crystals.

Hecate is a Greek goddess of witchcraft and a psychopomp of the underworld. She was often depicted with a torch and a key, symbols of her role as a guide to souls on their way to the afterlife.

She is a powerful figure among modern witches, often called upon for guidance and protection. Her assistance is sought by those pursuing spiritual growth and transformation, and her role as a moon goddess make her popular among those who practice lunar magic.

Hecate is depicted as a triple goddess. Traditional hekataia show her three aspects situated around a central column, often holding snakes, keys, torches, and daggers. Ovid wrote, "Look at Hecate, standing guard at the crossroads, one face looking in each direction."

Decorate a shrine or altar to Hecate with keys, lunar symbols, any of her associated crystals, figurines of her associated animals, especially black ones, and yellow or orange candles to symbolize her torches. If you have room and are so inclined, you can also include a cypress bonsai.

Hekate: the Greek Goddess of the Crossroads and Witchcraft

Hekate is the Greek Goddess of witchcraft, the moon, magic, sorcery, necromancy, and ghosts. She helps to lead the ghosts into the underworld and she helps them to transition from life to death. She is a guide for souls who are navigating the journey from one realm to another. She is also the Goddess of the crossroads and doorways. She is a Goddess of the night and is often depicted carrying a torch. She is often depicted with the dark (new) moon and is associated with it. Hekate is often depicted as a triple faced Goddess and this triple form is associated with her role of the crossroads and being able to see all sides of the crossroads. She is not the maiden, mother, and crone as this was a newer belief that got associated with Her. She is also able to see the past, present, and future. She is a guide through darkness and a protector against evil. You can grant her offerings at a crossroads or on an altar dedicated to her. Hekate is a wanderer and she works on gathering souls to the Underworld and helping people with transitions.

Hekate is the daughter of the Titans, Perses and Asteria, but some have said that she is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter. After helping the Greek Gods defeat the Titans, Hekate was given power over heaven, sea, and earth from Zeus. When Persephone was abducted, Hekate and Helios hear Persephone’s cries when Hades abducts her. After Demeter had searched for Persephone for nine days, Hekate came to Her with a torch in her hands on the tenth day. Hekate reported to Demeter what She had heard but did not know who had taken Her daughter. Hekate helped Demeter search for Persephone and took Her to Helios, the Sun god, who reported what He saw. Once Persephone was reunited with Demeter, Hekate embraced Her. Hekate then became Persephone’s companion in the Underworld when She returned there for 6 months each year.

In antiquity, Hekate was mostly known as the Goddess of the crossroads and was seen as a protector. Many people turned to her so she could guard their home and protect their loved ones. Hekate is usually given offerings at the crossroads as a way to protect people from the dead or negative spirits or energies.

Important dates:

November 16th, is the sacred night of Hekate. It will be on this Saturday. This is a good day to honor the Goddess and to grant her offerings or to prepare an offering at a crossroads for animals or wandering spirits in Her honor. This is a good time to do a ritual for the Goddess or to practice divination. This is regarded as a powerful night to do spells and offerings and it will help you to deepen your spiritual connection with the Goddess. Also, anytime there is a new moon is a great time to honor and connect with Goddess Hekate and is known as Hekate Deipnon.

hekate: a history

hihi!! recently my friend expressed interest in learning more about hekate and I thought that I could do some research and put it into a post. I have an altar to her but I don't necessarily commune with her often, and I didnt know as much of her lore as I probably should've. let me know if there's another deity yall would like me to do another deep dive on. i will link the sources that i used at the very end!

Domain: magic, witchcraft, the night, the moon, ghosts, crossroads, boundaries, herbalism and necromancy. she ruled over sky, earth, and sea, and was often venerated as a part of the household deities. she is widely respected and revered, even by the other gods

Parentage: Perses, titan of destruction and known for his great wisdom; Asteria, titaness of falling stars and nighttime divination

Important Imagery:

-she is often depicted holding two torches, a key, a dagger, or snakes -her familiars include a dog--the Queen Hecuba who committed suicide or was received as Odysseus' consort after the fall of Troy--and a polecat (like a ferret)--or the midwife Galinthias who was transformed by the goddess Eileithyia -she was often given three heads or three bodies -her arrival is often preceded by the howling of dogs -she is sometimes shown flanked by lions or (multiple) dogs -in some depictions she will have an animal head, including anything from a cow, dog, boar, serpent, or horse -wheels and caves

Lore:

-In Hesiod's Theogony he describes Hekate allying with Zeus against the Titans and how "Zeus the son of Kronos (Cronus) honored [her] above all. He gave her splendid gifts, to have a share of the earth and the unfruitful sea." -In the Homeric Hymns Hekate is described as a close companion of Persephone, as she (along with Hermes) helped deliver her back to Demeter after her capture by Hades -During the Deipnon she is said to lead the souls of the restless dead out of Hades during the night and must be placated with offerings -Hekate is also seen as a kourotrophos (probably because of her association with Eileithyia and Artemis), or protector of children, and is often invoked as such -Hekate is often seen as Medea's (from Jason and the Argonauts) patroness and the one who advised her of what to do to get over Aeetes' trials -Sometimes she is considered the mother of Circe and Medea
