Changing our thoughts and behaviours, especially as adults, can be really hard. Our brains are hardwired (in comparison to the neuroplasticity of our brains in childhood) to react the way we have been all these years. Changing those behavioural patterns are possible but also challenging and takes time. This can be so frustrating as a parent.
