“Walking into rehearsals I was just so overwhelmed and nervous and starstruck,” Beyoncé shared. To combat those nerves, Prince made sure they rehearsed an hour a day for the week leading up to the Grammys, so Beyoncé could get comfortable around him. It’s hard to imagine Beyoncé being nervous or star struck around anyone, but when it came to Prince, at that time in her career, she was. You can hear the awe and admiration in her voice as she talks about what a surreal experience it was to perform with the music icon. “I was so scared and in my shell during rehearsals,” she said, but Prince gave her some last minute advice that turned everything around. “Right before…he just kept saying, ‘Don’t be scared. Come on, belt it out.‘ Because he could see that I was holding back in rehearsals…and I let it out when it was time.” -Beyoncé (Giant Magazine)
