cyclamen
The Cyclamen Knight was the strongest and among the most beautiful of the Knights Who Bloom.
Sometimes.
When the sun hung high for most of a day and the air was soaked in the horrific, sickly wet heat of summer, the Cyclamen Knight was gorgeous.
His hair grew long and flowing, and his flowers would bloom into a beautiful soft pink.
The muscles in his arms were supposed to be stronger than those in another man’s legs.
While the sun hung high.
When the icy, frost-bitten cold set in, The Cyclamen Knight would shrivel.
First his eyes would sink in, blackened and tired from their own peering curiously and half lidded smiling.
Then his muscles would suck in, like his skin was holding it tight to his bones.
Then his skin would pale, growing thin, nearly translucent.
The Cyclamen Knight would wither over the winter, sinking into his suit of armor and hiding behind his shield.
His temper would grow short, and he went hungry more nights that most.
But the spring would come.
Always in time.
But when the knight came back, it wasn’t all at once.
It started slow.
First his mood.
He’d smile at jokes and shirk behind his shield less than before.
Then his eyes, the sockets would lose their shriveled, sunken glare.
Then his body would return, stout arms and clean teeth in turn.
His skin would be the tanned iron it was known for.
He could lift a horse in one arm and his smile could fold a woman’s heart in two
.
The death of Cyclamen Knight was on the fields of Nouaillé in late Semptember.
His strength had begun to fail him, but it was long from disappearing entirely.
He been fighting four men, his spear and shield whirring and stalling in turn.
He’d grinned to himself, thinking this might actually be a challenge.
His death was as instantaneous as it was unfair.
A quick, savage blow tore through his spine.
The pain began and died before he hacked up his first petal filled breath.
He could see his chest blooming around the spear, his lungs filling with his own blood.
He scratched his hand over his chestpiece in numb disbelief as the world around him started to blur.
He slumped forward onto the spear, not watching through his glazed, half closed eyes as the last of his violently pink petals bloomed.
The Cyclamen Knight was the strongest and among the most beautiful of the Knights Who Bloom.
Sometimes.
Excuse me but what the FUCK is happening?
So, there’s a web comic that I’m really enjoying called King of Sorts by @crabbng ! Each chapter they have a cover contest, so I thought I’d throw a piece into the ring this time.
Lemme tell you, trying to do lineless on non-marker paper is... something. But! I’m happy with how it turned out! Scanned and touched up in Gimp so it’s a bit more even.
Journey to Silius’ ost rocks any you can’t do anything about this.
Ferry’s music is still really cool.

An Art analysis of the art for Te no Hira
I have NO clue why I’m currently obsessed with the art that goes with Te no hira (By wowaka ft. Hatsune Miku), but I’m gonna try to put it down into a sort of art analysis.
By itself, it looks like an abstract piece made in MS paint with circle and line tools. While that could be a bad thing in some cases, there are certain elements that wind up tying everything together into an (imo) fascinating piece for one of his songs.
Firstly, I’d like to address the element that first brought about this whole strange overanalysis of a cover of a song from 11 years ago: the lines connecting the circles in the background. I think the reason that it drew me in so hard is that, it managed to establish a sense of depth within the piece. Physically, the line on the uppermost of the two connected circles is shorter, establishing the connection going from the floor, back into the space, and up to the upper circle further in the back. But besides this, this line draws you eyes to it, simply by virtue of it being a line. The rest of the shapes in this are ovular/round, so these 3 lines stand out for being so straight and ridged.
Next is the usage of size, overlap, and color tone. Even though these are simple circles, the piece feels as though it has some depth to it, especially when looking over at the left of it. The darkest circle is at the very front, covering the lighter grey oval in the back, helping to establish the dark grey circles as closer to the front than the other greys. Though, more than it being a sequence of circles and ovals fading from dark grey to the lightest, the usage of overlap gives the piece more of a look of everything being simply suspended... in the air. It gives off the feel of everything being floaty, with the bottom of the two connected circles being the only thing that could actually be grounded.
This all ties wonderfully into the actual song, with it being slow and flowing. It doesn’t have the same tumbling vigor of Rolling Girl, the force of Tosenbo, or the urgent bitterness of Zureteiku; Te no Hira sounds resigned, a quiet sigh at the end of something.
What I’m saying is that I really like this abstract image that was used for this song that I’ve only recently found somehow despite it being released 11 years ago.
Congrats on the wedding you dummies.
