Heartbreak is a funny thing,

when you are the one breaking your own heart.

You brush the hair out of my face,

And I feel my heart race.

How can you be so kind,

Love each and every thing of mine,

But be so cruel at the same time?

Oh, you're touches are sweet,

A lingering smile has heat,

Rising to my face.

It's hard to keep pace,

You're moving so fast,

But then you stop me in my tracks.

You dont love me.

You cant love me.

I guess I'm just a foolish girl.

You rub salt into the wounds you left with every false apology you utter.

I feel the words rise to my throat, threatening to overflow into the world. I feel my anger begin to boil, poison running through my veins. I feel my heart begin to pound, a ringing in my ears louder than your ignorance. And soon I wont feel the need to hold back.

I hate men.

"How could you be so mean?"

Well geez,

How could you try to strip me of my dreams?

Tell me who I am and am not,

Tell me I need to stop being so smart?

Tell me to find a husband, to quiet down,

Tell me to smile instead of frown?

How am I supposed to stay calm, collected,

When all my happiness is supposed to be neglected?

Dont you dare ask me again,

Why I say I hate men.

I fell in love when I heard her laugh. I fell in love when she said I looked nice in my pajamas with bed hair. I fell in love when she texted me good morning.

But she tells me of her new friend, how badly she likes him.

She asks me if I think she has a chance.

I hide my heartbreak with encouragement.

If I cant be happy with her, she deserves to he happy with someone else.

All I want is for her to smile.

Maybe then I can smile too.
