look how tiny we are, almost invisible, standing on the world's finger. the planet's hair tendrils could woosh us away. yet, here we are. tiny people.

my religion is other women. this isnāt tongue in cheek. my religion congregates around a fire, in a cramped room we booked to talk, in an idling car for way too long, in someoneās living room, in the cold because thereās more to say and hear. there is a spark of divinity i know to look for when she says something sheās never said out loud before. there is a spiritual rumble in the dehydrated voices of women who arenāt used to saying so much. when i hear another woman articulate something iāve never been able to, thatās the voice of my god speaking to me. its ancient, forbidden knowledge, and it fills my body with my self. thereās power in our warm red blood.

Ok so I know how you mentioned you donāt particularly like new age practices once. Iām just curious what IS new age exactly and how does it differ from your practice?
I basically see new age as style without substance or critical thinking at best. At worst itās grabby hands stealing spiritual practices from other cultures, taking them out of context, and claiming them as their own (aka cultural appropriation) at worst.Ā Itās buying a crystal from a bin based on some correspondence list somewhere or because the little tag in a shop says itās good for āprotectionā without consideration of why or where it came from and under what conditions it was mined.
Most witchy type shops Iāve been to were more new age than actual witchcraft shops. They sell statues of faeries or angels portrayed as ālove and lightā without thought to the actual complicated and not always ālove and lightā lore attached to both angels and faeries.Ā They sell white sage as āsmudge sticksā never explaining that smudging is part of indigenous ritual and not just randomly waving some twigs on fire.
New age feel like spiritual consumerism in a capitalist sense to buy things and also in an icky sense where the historical and spiritual practices of cultures areĀ a buffet for colonialists to pick and choose what parts of a culture āfeels goodā to take without dealing with the very realĀ
These shops seem strangely stuck in the 90s with books on auras, chakras, and Celtic knots covering everything, and spirituality packaged as self help. New age is about making you feel good rather than ever examining your shadow or the shadow western culture casts on history and spirituality. New age, to me, seems like a hippie clung to capitalism instead of adapting when met with a new world and new information. Occasionally new age intersects with witchcraft and itās often the most respectability politics forms of Wicca, which is only portrayed as love-and-light-do-no-harm at best and at worst the only kind of acceptable kind of witchcraft that must be religions or itās not witchcraft at all.
I donāt touch stuff from closed cultures. I have studied other cultures and religions, formally in college and informally for my own curiosity, but I donāt take those concepts out of context and try to make them my own. If something bad happens to you Iām not going to say it must be karma, because thatās not how karma works and would be taking it completely out of the original framework.
I donāt really consider what I do a spiritual practice. Iām a witch. Itās just what and who I am. I think that part of being a witch is seeing the world differently, maybe a bit more malleable and subject to change if you want to change it. Thereās power and strength in that. I find value in reading other accounts of witchcraft practices and see how it relates to my own experiences. I draw from my own ethos in punk and DIY and philosophy and apply that to my perspective. I call it a practice because it is always growing and changing and evolving when met with new information.
You're mad because the lights would go out if men all called out for a day. The water wouldn't run. Food wouldnt get delivered. We built this world for you... you just live in it.
You built this world and you gave women no chance to participate. You told us that we were only good enough to be pregnant and raise kids. You didn't let us own land, open our own lines of credit, vote, get college degrees, or hold management jobs. Now we're realizing that you were wrong and you're scared. You don't like that women are talking out loud about how bad you are. You don't like the spotlight being shone on the moral failings of your sex. So now you hide behind anonymity and lash out in hopes that women will once again bow to your will. Not gonna happen buddy <3
anon, this is the perfect reason to participate in a mass strike! teach us all a lesson. disappear for 24 hours and take all the other men with you. weāll all be so grateful to see you again, Iām so sure of it.
Silly male, if you disappeared women would simply take over your work, like we did every time you went off to war. Things didn't stop running because you were busy murdering and raping in another country, and they wouldn't stop running if you disappeared.
