top 5 matchas?

i can't really answer this because they're all local brands 😭 though my top 1 is definitely from niko neko matcha, which is a local brand that has been around for a decade [pictured below]. i also do enjoy another brand called matcha hero because it's really affordable (like $3).

my advice for matcha hunting would be to know what you want. do you prefer lattes or do you like them with just water? what taste profiles are you looking for? where are the best available places?

to answer those questions for me: i prefer matcha lattes that are umami in taste profile (rather than, say, nutty, or sweet). the best available place to me is niko neko, who specialize in matcha. i think you are able to get the best experience from brands/cafes that specialize in selling these.
