Reader is sweet and tries to make the marriage work, but Edmund doesn’t know how to act with her. After an attack on the castle, things start to change between them. Word count: 2.7K
Time seemed to be moving too quickly. The reception sped by and was full of laughter, music, and a few awkward dances with Edmund. However, when the celebration ended and it was just Y/N and Edmund left alone, she wasn’t sure what to do. Y/N and Edmund made eye contact and he opened his mouth to say something, but was cut off by the door opening suddenly.
Susan walked in and smiled at them. “What are you two still doing here? You don’t have to clean up or anything.”
Y/N smiled back at her. “I know. I think we were both just enjoying the peace and quiet.”
Susan laughed. “Well then I’ll leave you to it.”
Susan left and the sound of the door closing echoed through the quiet room. This time Y/N began to say something. “I had a good time. I mean, I know that you’re not really happy with this whole idea of an arranged marriage but still. It was fun. I think I’ll retire to my rooms now.” Y/N turned to leave but stopped when she heard Edmund’s voice. “Wait!” She turned back to face him and he seemed unsure. “Will you… dance with me?”
Y/N laughed. She didn’t know what Edmund was going to say but she wasn’t expecting that. “There’s no music,” she said. Edmund shrugged. “That’s alright.” Y/N smiled then walked over to him, sliding her hand into his. She tensed when he placed his hand on her waist but quickly relaxed into his touch and placed her other hand on his back. The two of them swayed slowly, adding a spin every now and then. She didn’t know what had made Edmund decide to ask her to dance, but she wasn’t complaining. This was the best moment they had shared the entire night. “Thank you,” she whispered to him. He smiled and nodded. “Of course.”
He spun her one more time and Y/N smiled and sighed. “I should probably get some sleep.” Edmund nodded in understanding. “Of course. Are you comfortable?” Y/N furrowed her brows in confusion. “What do you mean?” Edmund paused and thought for a moment before speaking. “Well, it’s our wedding night. So, technically I think we’re supposed to share a room.” Y/N’s eyes lit up in understanding. “Oh, right.” There was a moment of silence before she spoke again. “I forgot about that.” Edmund smiled. “Come with me.” He took her hand and led her out of the room. They went down a few hallways before stopping in front of a door. “What’s this?” Y/N asked. “Susan said it was our wedding present. I haven’t been inside of it yet.” Edmund responded. Y/N took a deep breath. “Well, then what are we waiting for?” Edmund smiled and then pushed open the door.Â
They walked into the room slowly and she almost stopped breathing when she saw what was inside. Y/N quickly realized that this room was meant to be for both her and Edmund. The bed was huge and there were two large wardrobes next to each other. One was painted with pink flowers and vines as well as a large forest scene with a river running through it. Y/N instantly recognized the forest as one from her country. She had visited it often as a child. The other wardrobe had been painted with silver swords and leaves with a large lion on it. She figured that one was for Edmund. She knew he was a talented swordsman and that Aslan was a powerful figure in Narnia’s history.Â
There was a desk against the wall opposite from the bed with a gold chess set sitting on top of it. In the corner, there was a small reading nook with a cozy- looking chair and a small collection of books next to it. Y/N watched as Edmund walked into a connecting room and followed him. She was once again amazed at what she saw. There was a huge window on the wall that overlooked a peaceful looking meadow and a gorgeous wood fireplace on the opposite wall. A small pallet of blankets and pillows was set up on the floor in front of the fireplace. A vanity was placed against the wall to the right with a large mirror and more makeup than Y/N would ever need. The walls were painted with beautiful nature scenes and history and a portrait of Edmund hung above the fireplace with an empty space next to it. Y/N assumed a portrait of her belonged there but she didn’t mention it.Â
“This is incredible.” She finally said. Edmund laughed. “Susan really went all out.” The two stared at each other, once again falling back into silence. “I guess we should sleep?” Edmund suggested. Y/N nodded in agreement. “I suppose that would be the logical thing to do.” They wandered back into the bedroom and Y/N opened her painted wardrobe. Most of her clothes seemed to be in there and she picked out a modest nightgown. She checked to see if Edmund was looking but he seemed to be distracted by his own wardrobe so she quickly changed into the nightgown. She shut the wardrobe and quickly averted her eyes when she realized Edmund was shirtless. After a couple minutes he cleared his throat and she looked back up. She was only slightly disappointed to see that he had put a shirt on. He wore a loose white shirt with a low neck and loose black shorts. The two of them got into the bed and Edmund blew out the candle that was sitting on the bedside table. Y/N laid still in the bed, scared to move. She had never shared a bed with a boy before and she would be lying if she said she wasn’t nervous. Even though they weren’t touching, she could feel his warmth and it was comforting. As she laid in the soft bed, exhaustion overcame her quickly and she fell asleep to the feeling of Edmund’s warmth and the sound of his breath.Â
After that first night, things with Edmund became easier and the two of them began to fall into a comfortable pattern. Edmund met with diplomats from other countries, trained with Peter, and generally spent his time completing his kingly duties. Y/N joined him sometimes but mostly spent her time reading, helping Susan and Lucy, or relaxing in the stables. She tried to do a good job fulfilling her role as a wife by making sure Edmund didn’t forget to eat when he got busy and keeping his desk tidy but she wasn’t sure he even noticed most times. However, she didn’t really mind that much. She knew it was just an arranged marriage for him and she tried not to expect too much from him because of that.Â
Today was an interesting day because Edmund had an unusual amount of free time. He had decided he wanted to get some extra practice in with his swords and Y/N decided to read outside next to him. She kept getting distracted from her book by watching Edmund practice. It was just the two of them and he had removed his shirt to prevent himself from overheating. She watched as he gracefully swung the swords and blushed when he took a break and caught her looking at him. He smiled and walked over to her as he wiped his forehead with his shirt. “What are you reading?” He asked her. “It’s a book of poetry.” She answered. “The narrator is a girl that’s in love with a boy but he has no idea.” Edmund frowned. “That sounds sad.” Y/N smiled in response. “It is. They’re friends but he’s fallen in love with another and she’s too scared to tell him how she feels.” “Then why do you read it if it’s sad?” He asked her. “Because it’s beautiful even though it’s sad.” Edmund nodded. “I see. Well, I will try reading your book of poetry if you read an adventure book that I like.” Y/N laughed. “That sounds fair to me.” He smiled at her and then stood, brushing the dirt from his pants. “I need to go bathe after sweating this much but I’ll see you later.” Y/N smiled and waved as he walked away but her smile quickly faded as she felt this weird ache in her chest. She bit her lip when she realized the feeling was longing. She wanted Edmund to stay and talk to her longer. She shook the feeling away and went back to reading her book.
That evening, she sat next to Edmund in the Great Hall and waited for dinner to be served. He slid something across the table to her and she smiled when she saw it. It was a book with a picture of a man holding a bow and arrow on the front. “It’s called Robin Hood. I think you’ll like it.” Edmund said. “I haven’t finished my poetry yet but I promise to give it to you as soon as I’m done.” She responded. Edmund nodded and turned as food was placed in front of them. She and Edmund chatted during dinner along with Peter, Susan, and Lucy. Y/N laughed as Peter told a story of how he embarrassed himself in front of a visiting princess once. “Oh, hold on.” She said, turning to face Edmund. Y/N took her napkin and wiped at his cheek where he had a spot of food. She pulled away quickly when she realized what she was doing. “Um… thanks.” Said Edmund. “No problem.” Y/N said, embarrassed. The rest of the dinner felt awkward and when Y/N and Edmund retired to their rooms for the night, neither one of them spoke. She tried to think of something to say to ease the tension, but nothing sounded right. Y/N got into bed and Edmund followed shortly. “Goodnight.” He said, and blew out the candle.Â
The next morning, Edmund was gone when Y/N woke. She sighed and got dressed quickly before leaving the room. She found Lucy and Susan in the throne room and both girls greeted her with a smile. “Good morning.” Y/N said. Susan eyed her suspiciously. “What’s wrong?” Y/N sputtered. “How do you know something’s wrong?” Susan smiled. “I can just tell. Now, come on out with it.” Y/N sighed. “Edmund and I sort of had an awkward interaction last night.” “The napkin thing?” Lucy asked. Susan elbowed Lucy in the side and Lucy cried out in pain. Y/N grimaced as she remembered how she had wiped Edmund’s face without even thinking about it. “I’m sure you two will forget about it in no time.” Susan said. Y/N nodded. “Hopefully.”
-
Edmund walked through the halls of the castle seeking Peter. He had left before Y/N was awake and he felt guilty about it but he wasn’t sure how to talk to her at the moment. He found Peter in his office and knocked on the door a couple times. “Hey Ed! Come on in.” Peter said. “Are you busy?” Edmund asked. “Not really. Trying to work out how many visitors we can receive next month. What’s going on?” Peter responded. “Nothing much. Just wanted to know if you wanted to train.” Peter shrugged. “Sure, why not?”
Peter and Edmund walked outside together, grabbing their swords from the armory on the way out. The boys immediately jumped into it, their swords clashing against each other. In between swings, Peter tried to make casual conversation. “So how are things with you and Y/N?” He asked. Edmund shrugged. “Fine, I guess.” “You two seem to be getting along well.” Peter said. “We are. I mean, she’s nice.” “That’s it?” Edmund sighed. “I don’t know what else to say.” “Okay, okay.” Peter said. He was silent after that and Edmund took a hard swing forward with his sword, knocking Peter’s out of his hand. Peter nodded appreciatively. “Nice move.” He said. Edmund nodded. “Thanks.”
“Wanna go again?” Edmund asked. “I’d love to Ed, but I have to get back to those plans. Unless you have something you want to talk about?” Peter said, raising his eyebrows at Edmund. Edmund groaned. “Fine. I don’t know how to talk to her or act around her sometimes.” “What do you mean?” Peter asked. “Well, she’s so kind and patient. She actually does things for me, but I don’t know what to do for her.” Peter listened and nodded along as Edmund spoke. “I’m nervous to say or do the wrong thing.” Edmund said. Peter smiled. “It sounds to me like you might have feelings for her.” Edmund shook his head. “No, it’s definitely not that.” “Why not?” Peter asked. “Well, because- whatever, shut up!” Edmund shoved Peter’s shoulder as his cheeks turned red. Peter laughed and started to walk away. He turned as he walked and shouted to Edmund. “Just talk to her!” Edmund rolled his eyes as Peter walked away but thought about the advice. Maybe he should just talk to her. Edmund took a deep breath and began to walk back into the castle to find her when he started to hear shouts. He quickly took off running in the direction of the screams, sword in hand.
-
Y/N looked up as she heard shouts coming from somewhere in the castle. She dropped the book she was reading, grabbed a small dagger that Edmund kept in the drawer next to the bed, and rushed out into the hallway. Freya rushed past her and Y/N grabbed her shoulders, looking into her eyes. “What’s going on?” Y/N asked her. “Men just stormed into the palace! I don’t know where they’re from, but they’re destroying everything!” Y/N and Freya flinched as they heard more screams. “Run! Hide! Be safe!” Y/N shouted to Freya as she ran in the direction of the screams. She heard Freya shouting behind her, but she didn’t turn around. She was determined to help.
She ran into the throne room and saw a man cornering a young maid. “Hey!” She called out to him. He turned to face her and she thrust her dagger upward quickly into his chest. “Run!” She said to the maid. The maid didn’t hesitate and Y/N turned quickly to find anyone else she could help. Her plan was cut short when someone grabbed her by the throat and lifted her up slightly. “What do we have here?” The man who grabbed her looked older but well fit. He was clearly strong and he seemed ruthless. He had a scar across his eye and she couldn’t tell what color his hair was because of everything that was in. She saw dirt, blood, and gray hairs.Â
“Put me down!” She said, struggling to breathe with his hand around her neck. He laughed and threw her against the wall. “Y/N!” She looked up as she heard her name and saw Edmund there with a small group of soldiers. The man who had grabbed her sneered at Edmund and bowed mockingly. “Your majesty.” Edmund reacted immediately, commanding his soldiers to grab the man. But, he was too fast and scooped her up from the floor where she was laying. He put a knife to her throat and Edmund quickly held out a hand, signaling the soldiers to stop. “Let me go or I will cut her throat.” Edmund nodded. “You can leave, just don’t hurt her.”Â
The man backed up to the door slowly, his knife still firmly pressed to her throat. It was starting to sting and she swore she could feel blood dripping down her neck. The man had reached the door with Y/N in tow and Edmund stared at them intensely. “Okay, just let her go now.” The man paused before speaking once more. “I don’t think so.” He stabbed her in the side and Y/N let out a small cry of pain before falling to the floor. The man rushed out and Edmund screamed to his soldiers. “After him!” He rushed to Y/N’s side and she groaned as he picked her up and set her in his lap. “You’re going to be okay, I promise.” He said. Y/N smiled, barely staying conscious. “If I die, at least it will be in your arms.” She managed out. “Nobody is dying. Do you hear me?” She couldn’t respond anymore and slowly Edmund’s voice faded away and everything went dark.
A/N: Sorry for the delay in getting this part out! I’ve been really busy at school but thank you to everyone who has expressed their love for this series! I believe I’m going to do one more part and then an epilogue so stay tuned for that!

To Save A Kingdom | Part 2
PART 1 | Edmund Pevensie x Fem!Reader | Request by @oceanspray5: Edmund and the reader are in an arranged marriage. Reader is sweet and tries to make the marriage work, but Edmund doesn’t know how to act with her. After an attack on the castle, things start to change between them. Words: 3,075Â
It had been 3 days since Y/N had arrived in Narnia and things with Edmund hadn’t gotten any easier. Lucy, Susan, and Y/N had quickly become good friends, but Edmund still seemed uninterested in getting to know her. He was polite just as he said he would be, but Y/N wished they could at least try to be friends. Y/N tried to focus on what Susan was saying as she explained wedding details to her. “Y/N are you listening?” Susan asked. “Oh, yes. I’m sorry. What were you saying?” “I asked what song you wanted to walk down the aisle to.” Y/N struggled to come up with a response. “Just something traditional, I suppose.” Susan nodded and wrote something down in her notebook. She had been very dedicated to the wedding arrangements and while Y/N appreciated that, she was still struggling to accept that this wedding was really happening. Susan looked at Y/N again. “Okay, now this is important. You have an appointment with the tailor today to put the finishing touches on your wedding dress. Then, you and Edmund will meet in the gardens to rehearse.” Y/N blinked. “We have to practice getting married?” Susan smiled sympathetically. “I know it’s a lot to take in. But it’ll help to go through it by yourselves before doing it in front of everyone. Plus, I want you to see the gardens. I know you deferred the location to Edmund and I think he appreciated that, but you should like the location too.” She nodded as Susan spoke. Everything she said made sense, but Y/N wasn’t sure she could fully accept this was happening until it actually happened.
The day flew by until it was time to meet the tailor. Y/N walked in apprehensively and the tailor immediately rushed over to her. “Hello, hello! How are you? Oh, come in! Please, take a seat!” Y/N laughed nervously at her enthusiasm, but she did as the lady said and took a seat. The lady looked kind with light hair and round cheeks. “Oh, by the way, I’m Melissa but you can call me Mel!” Y/N smiled. “I’m Y/N… but you probably knew that already.” Mel laughed. “Yes, honey. I sure did. Now, come here and let me double check your measurements.” Y/N did as she was told and after Mel finished confirming her measurements, she brought out the most beautiful dress Y/N had ever seen. She traced her fingers along the lace details of the sleeves and rubbed the soft material of the skirt between her fingertips. “I love it, Mel.” Mel smiled and clapped her hands together excitedly. “Yay! Now try it on! Go, go!” Mel ushered Y/N behind a screen to dry on the dress and Y/N stepped into it as quickly as she could. “Could you help me lace this up?” She asked Mel. “Of course, sugar!” Mel quickly did up the back and Y/N stepped out in front of the mirror. She gasped when she saw herself in the dress. “Wow.” She didn’t have any other words to express how she was feeling. “Do you like it?” Mel asked. Y/N thought only a moment before she answered. “Mel… it’s beautiful. I feel beautiful. But, can I make one request?” A look of surprise crossed Mel’s face, but she nodded enthusiastically. “Of course! It’s your day after all.” Y/N bit her lip. “Could you add pink flower details to the sleeves? My Mom had them on her dress when she got married. She always said they were a symbol of her home country.” Y/N smiled, remembering all the times her Mother would describe the food and flowers from her home. Her Mom had always said she wanted to go back and visit. Y/N wondered if she would be able to do that now.Â
Mel smiled at her. “I would be honored. I’ll do that tonight and you can try it on tomorrow to make sure you like it.” Y/N took a deep breath as she looked at the dress. “Thank you Mel.” “It’s my pleasure, sweetheart.” Y/N quickly changed out of the dress and thanked Mel one last time before rushing to the garden to meet Edmund. Once she got there, she was greeted by Susan and Lucy. Susan looked at her, her eyes widening a fraction. “Where have you been? You’re late.” Y/N felt very confused. How was she late? “I was with Mel trying on my dress.” Susan’s shoulders relaxed slightly. “You were only supposed to stay for 20 minutes. Now come on.” Y/N followed Susan and Lucy to a secluded part of the garden where she saw Edmund and Peter standing up at the front. Lucy looked at Y/N kindly. “Since you don’t have any bridesmaids, Susan and I were wondering if you’d want us to be your bridesmaids.” Y/N beamed at Lucy. “I would love that. Thank you both.” Susan cleared her throat and stepped up to Y/N. “Alright.” She said, “You’re going to start back here. Lucy and I will walk in first. Then there will be a pause in the music, everyone will stand, your song will start playing, and that’s when you come in. Make sense?” Y/N nodded and Susan and Lucy took their places in front of her. She watched as an upbeat song started playing and they each took a turn walking down the aisle. Then, just as Susan described it, there was a pause and a new song started playing. Y/N took a deep breath and started to walk. She made eye contact with Susan, who motioned for her to slow down, and then with Edmund.Â
Edmund was wearing a light blue shirt with long sleeves and a dark vest on top with loose pants. He looked good, but his expression seemed less than thrilled. When Y/N finally reached the end of the aisle, she walked up onto the platform where Edmund was standing and turned to face him. They both looked at each other unsurely and the minister cleared his throat. “You’re supposed to hold hands.” “Oh.” Y/N mumbled. She put her hands up and let Edmund take them in his. He held them loosely as if he couldn’t stand to touch her.Â
“Alright then. Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the holy matrimony between these two distinguished individuals.” Y/N listened as the minister spoke and repeated when she was told to. Edmund did the same and soon they were finished. Edmund let go of her hands quickly and she was surprised when she missed his warmth. Susan leaned forward to whisper in Y/N’s ear. “We didn’t know if you wanted to practice the kiss today or wait until the ceremony.” Y/N responded quickly. “I’d rather wait.” Susan nodded. “Then, now is when you and Edmund walk out. The rest of us will follow.” Y/N nodded and walked next to Edmund as they exited the gardens. The two were alone for the first time in 3 days and Y/N tried to think of something to say to ease the tension. “Well, I guess that could’ve gone worse, right?” Edmund looked at her blankly. “I guess.” She decided not to respond and instead waited for Susan, Lucy, and Peter to arrive. When they did, Y/N felt instantly relieved. Peter smiled at her and Susan was the first to speak. “We should prepare for dinner. With more people arriving for the ceremony, the Great Hall will be much busier tonight.” Y/N nodded and everyone left to go to their respective rooms. When she arrived at her room, she searched through her wardrobe looking for a nice dress. She picked out one with sleeves that rested on her shoulders and a light blue bodice. She ran a brush through her hair quickly and slipped on a pair of her nicest shoes. Then, she left her room in search of the Great Hall. As soon as she walked out, she ran into Edmund.
“Oh, hello.” She said. “Hello.” Y/N looked at what Edmund was wearing tonight. She hadn’t seen him in anything quite this formal yet. His sleeves and his pants were both tight-fitting as opposed to the normal looseness of his clothes. The colors on his clothes were rich and for the first time since she’d met him, a silver crown was sitting on his head. “You look nice.” Y/N told him. She wasn’t sure how she was expecting him to respond, but what he said caught her off guard. “Thank you. Um, you look nice as well.” Y/N stared for a moment before remembering how to form words of her own. “Thank you.” He nodded and they both turned, walking the rest of the way in silence. When they walked into the Great Hall, Y/N instantly noticed how loud it was. Susan was right, the hall was packed full of people from everywhere. For the entire night, Y/N was congratulated on her upcoming nuptials, asked about her kingdom, and about King Edmund. She kept a smile on her face for most of the night, but as it started to get late she struggled to find the energy to continue answering all of the questions.Â
Just when she was about to start banging her head on one of the tables, Edmund appeared at her side. “Forgive me Lord Hugh, but could I steal my future wife for a moment?” Lord Hugh nodded and Edmund led her away from him quickly. “What are you doing?” She asked him. Edmund smiled. “Saving you. I could see your frustration from across the room. Come on.” He held her arm and gently pulled her through a nearby door. “Where are we going?” “To my favorite place in the castle.” Y/N looked around as they walked down a long hallway and almost laughed when they finally walked through a small door. “The kitchen?” Edmund looked away quickly, but she could’ve sworn there was a faint blush on his cheeks. “You don’t have to stay. I just thought I would help you get away from the crowd.” Y/N realized that he thought she was making fun of him and she quickly tried to fix the situation. “No, no! I love it. Really, no place I’d rather be.” He looked at her skeptically. “Seriously?” “Seriously,” She responded. “When I was little, my Father used to yell at me for sneaking out of my room in the middle of the night to eat cookies.” Edmund smiled. “Peter gets onto me for the same thing.” Y/N smiled, but wasn’t sure how to respond. Edmund cleared his throat and opened the pantry. “So, what do you want?” “Got any cookies?” Edmund chuckled and searched the cabinets till he found a small container of cookies. “Here we go.”
Edmund and Y/N ate in silence until Edmund looked at her suddenly. “Can I ask you something?” Y/N was taken back, but nodded quickly. “Why did you agree to an arranged marriage?” Y/N thought for a moment before answering. “I’m sure for the same reasons you did. I didn’t really have a choice. Our kingdom needs money and troops. Our people are hungry and most of the kingdom is undefended. Ettinsmoor has been threatening our borders for months. It was our only option.” Edmund looked at her. “So, you didn’t have a choice because you wanted to help your people?” Y/N nodded. “That and I have to do as my father wishes.” Edmund frowned. “Did he even ask you if it was what you wanted?” Y/N smiled at his sentiment. “No. But, it wouldn’t matter if he did. I would have said yes.” Edmund’s expression was unreadable now. “You really care about your people, don’t you?” “Of course I do.”Â
After a brief pause, Edmund spoke again. “Well, we should get some sleep. Busy day tomorrow.” Edmund was right about that. When she woke the next morning, the castle was already full of people decorating, rushing around, and preparing everything for tomorrow’s ceremony. Y/N took a deep breath. Today was her last day as an unmarried woman. She walked through the halls, looking for Susan or Lucy but she couldn’t see them anywhere. Instead, she managed to find Peter. “King Peter! Hello.” Peter smiled at her. “You can call me Peter.” Y/N was not convinced. “Are you sure?” Peter smiled and placed a hand on her shoulder. “Y/N. We’re about to be family. Please.” Y/N nodded. “Alright then. Peter it is.” He smiled again and then said he had some business to attend to. She wandered back to her room and found a small note slid under her door. She unfolded it and smiled when she saw it was from Susan.
“Y/N, relax and enjoy the day before your wedding. Absolutely no work. - Susan”
Y/N decided to take Susan’s advice. She spent the day reading, lounging, and decided to take dinner in her room. When it was time for bed, the nerves immediately began to set in. She was getting married tomorrow.
Y/N woke to someone shaking her. “What’s going on?” She said, unsure of who was in her room. “It’s your wedding day!” Y/N knew that excited voice. It was undoubtedly Lucy. “What time is it?” “Early. But, I brought you breakfast so get up!” Y/N sighed and did as Lucy said. Lucy placed a tray with sweet breakfast foods, juice, and fruit on it. “Thank you, Lucy. This was very kind of you.” Y/N ate quickly and as soon as she was finished Lucy ushered her out of the room. “We have a full day ahead of us!” Lucy said. “What am I doing other than getting married?” Y/N asked, slightly confused. “You have to get your hair and makeup done, greet the guests for the ceremony, get married, have the reception, and then it’s your wedding night!” Y/N paled as a new thought formed in her head. What would the wedding night entail?
Y/N pushed those thoughts aside as her and Lucy came across a new room. Susan was inside along with two women that she had never met. “Y/N, I’m glad you’re here. This is Arwynn and Beth. Arwynn will be doing your makeup and Beth will be doing your hair.” Susan explained. Y/N nodded and let Arwynn and Beth tell her where to sit and when to lift her head so they could make her look nice for the big day. Once they were done, Susan handed her a dress. “This is for you to greet the guests in. We can’t have you seen in your wedding dress before you walk down the aisle!” Y/N smiled and quickly stepped into the dress.Â
Y/N spent what felt like hours greeting the guests, but when everyone was sitting and she was being ushered to a back room to change into her wedding she suddenly wished she had more time. She took deep breaths as Lucy and Susan helped her into her dress. She was so nervous that she could barely think, but she managed a smile when she saw the small pink flowers decorating her dress. Once the dress was completely done, Lucy took a step back and gasped. “Y/N… you look beautiful.” Y/N took one last shaky breath and took Lucy’s hand in her right and Susan’s hand in her left. “Let’s do this.”
The wedding went exactly as they had rehearsed it and before she knew it, Y/N was standing in front of Edmund Pevensie. They were holding hands exactly as they had before, but his touch still sent shivers up her spine. The minister gave his introduction and soon they were exchanging their vows.
“Edmund, do you take this woman to be your wife, to live together in matrimony, to love her, to honor her, to comfort her, and to keep her in sickness and in health, forsaking all others, for as long as you both shall live?“ Edmund looked at her, pausing only for a moment before saying, “I do.”
Then the minister turned to her. “And do you, Y/N, take this man to be your husband, to live together in matrimony, to love him, to honor him, to comfort him, and to keep him in sickness and in health, forsaking all others, for as long as you both shall live?” Y/N licked her lips and said the words as loud as she could. “I do.”
“You may exchange your vows now.”
Edmund looked at her and said his vows quickly. “I, Edmund Pevensie, take you Y/N L/N, to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part.“Â
Y/N took a deep breath and repeated her vows to Edmund. She had spent many hours practicing and just hoped she wouldn’t trip over her words. "I, Y/N L/N, take you Edmund Pevensie, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part."Â
After she finished her vows, Edmund turned to Peter. Peter handed Edmund a small, golden ring that he then slid onto Y/N’s finger. "I give you this ring as a token and pledge of our constant faith and abiding love.” Y/N turned to Susan, who did the same for her, and she placed another ring onto Edmund’s finger while repeating the same words.
The minister smiled at both of them. “You may now kiss the bride.”
Edmund leaned forward and Y/N did the same. They met in the middle, sharing a small kiss. His lips were soft, which surprised Y/N for some reason. She had only been kissed once or twice, but she was sure this was the most pleasant kiss she’d ever had. And with that kiss, she began the rest of her life as Y/N Pevensie, King Edmund’s queen.

To Save a Kingdom
Edmund Pevensie x Fem!Reader | Request by @oceanspray5: Edmund and the reader are in an arranged marriage. Reader is sweet and tries to make the marriage work, but Edmund doesn’t know how to act with her. After an attack on the castle, things start to change between them. Word count: 2.4K
Y/N took a deep breath as she looked at herself in the mirror. She slowly brushed her fingers through her hair and shakily put a small necklace around her neck. She stared at herself until she heard her father’s voice calling her from down the hall. She stood up from her vanity and took one last look at the room that she grew up in. She took one last second to memorize every little detail. She looked at the small dent in her bedside table, the spot of missing paint on the wall behind her dresser, and the paintings from when she was little. She didn’t know if she would ever be coming back to this room and she didn’t want to forget all the memories she had made over the years. She turned around, turning off the lights to her childhood room and made her way down the stairs.Â
“I’m ready, Father.” She said as she stepped off the last stair.Â
Her father turned to look at her and sighed. “Finally. We need to get to the ship.” Y/N nodded and followed her father as he led her and her mother outside. Y/N’s mother walked beside Y/N and intertwined their fingers. “He’s not as eager as he seems, I promise. We’re both going to miss you very much.” Y/N nodded. She knew her father wasn’t one to show affection. He was a king with the weight of his kingdom constantly hanging around his neck. Things had gotten even harder in the past few years and now she was leaving her home to help her kingdom and her father. An arranged marriage with a Narnian king was the solution to their financial problems and lack of soldiers to defend their people. Even though Y/N was going to miss her home and her family, she knew this was the right thing to do.
It was a short walk to the stables, but a long ride to the docks. She dismounted her horse once they reached the ship and her parents did the same. She leaned her head against her horse’s, saying goodbye to the last piece of her childhood. Then she turned to her mother. She could already see the tears in her mom’s eyes as they wrapped their arms around each other. She buried her head in her mom’s neck, taking in her soft hair and the smell of her perfume. Her father cleared his throat and the two pulled away from each other. She looked at her father and leaned forward but he put his hand out, stopping her. She shook it firmly and he placed his other hand on the side of her head. She leaned into this small embrace knowing that this was his way of showing her he would miss her. She took a deep breath and said her final goodbye to her parents. Then she boarded the ship without looking back. It was a four day journey and by the time she got to Narnia, she was so happy to be back on land that the first thing she did was fall to the ground to smell the grass and the flowers. However, she instantly regretted it when she noticed four people walking toward her and eyeing her strangely.Â
She quickly stood and brushed the dust and dirt off of her casual dress. She had planned on changing into one of her nicer dresses before she met the Narnian rulers but it appeared it was too late now. She could tell even from this distance that they were royal. The first one that she saw had blonde hair that looked almost golden. Something about the way he walked and smiled radiated confidence and power. The next person was a girl who looked to be about the same age. She had long, flowing hair and a dainty yet intimidating face. She looked sophisticated and regal. The next girl looked younger. She looked kind and intelligent. She had a light in her eyes that made Y/N want to trust her immediately. The last person that Y/N saw was another boy. This one took her breath away. He looked powerful and beautiful and his walk seemed heavy as if he was weighed down by something. Y/N was sure he was the most stunning person she’d ever seen. He also looked like one of the most miserable people she’d ever seen. He was frowning, his fists clenched at his sides as he walked. As he got closer, she could see the frustration in his dark eyes.Â
When they finally reached her, she bowed. The youngest girl immediately stepped forward and touched Y/N’s shoulder. Y/N stood and smiled cautiously. “Hello! I’m Lucy Pevensie. Well, Queen Lucy but just Lucy is fine.”Â
“I’m Y/N. It’s lovely to meet you. All of you.” At that, the oldest boy stepped forward and began introducing the rest of them. “I’m King Peter, this is Queen Susan, and this is King Edmund.” Susan smiled and Edmund barely looked up when his name was said. Y/N bit her lip as she thought about what to say next. “You have… two kings and queens?” This seemed to break the tension as Peter laughed and explained, “I’m the High King and Susan is the High Queen. I know it’s a bit different from other kingdoms.” Y/N laughed in return. “Definitely different from our kingdom.”
A few hours later Y/N and the Pevensies had arrived at the palace. “Edmund!” Said Peter. “Why don’t you show Y/N to her rooms?” “Rooms?” Y/N asked, “As in… more than one?” Peter laughed, but Edmund just rolled his eyes and motioned for Y/N to follow him.Â
Edmund started walking without checking to see if she was following him. Y/N quickly picked up her bags and rushed after him. He was taller than her so his strides were bigger and she struggled to keep up. They walked down a hallway with several doors and Y/N kept a mental count of how many doors they passed before they stopped. Edmund stopped abruptly and Y/N almost ran into his back. He shoved open the door and Y/N gasped as she stepped into it. Their kingdom wasn’t necessarily poor, but they had definitely been having financial difficulties. They had sold many of their prized possessions and they had to let go of a lot of their staff. The paint on their walls was peeling and the floors were creaky. The only rooms that were consistently kept up were the dining halls, greeting areas, and a small number of spare rooms. Basically, only the rooms that their guests would see. The room she was in now was nothing like that. The walls were golden and covered with paintings of trees dancing, battle scenes, and glowing lakes. The bed in the middle was huge with a canopy hanging over it and there was a chest, bedside tables, a vanity, a tapestry, and two large windows on the outer wall with large drapes.Â
The bedroom led into another room that was just as beautiful. There were large, plush chairs around a small table and a big rug under the table. Y/N’s eyes traced the lines on the rug and she realized they were telling a story. She would have to come back later to look at it more. Against the wall there were large bookshelves covered with books, both old and new, and small decorations that appeared to have come from different kingdoms. Edmund cleared his throat behind her and her cheeks instantly turned red. She had completely forgotten he was still there. She turned around to face him and tried to think of something to say. Instead, Edmund caught her off guard and said something first. “Dinner is at 8. Try not to be late.” He turned to leave, then suddenly stopped and faced her again. “Wear something more suitable than that please.” With that, he left her rooms leaving her speechless and confused. Had she done something to offend him already? She quickly unpacked her small suitcases and picked out the nicest dress she had. It was a floor-length, red gown. It was simple with minimal detailing and plain, long sleeves.Â
Y/N fiddled with her sleeves as it got closer to 8, expecting someone to knock on her door and gather her for dinner. But, no one came and it was almost 8 so she realized she was supposed to find her own way there. She walked back the way Edmund took her earlier and found the throne room where they had been earlier. She saw a couple workers and stopped them to ask for directions. “Excuse me, do you know where I can find the Great Hall? I’m meant to be having dinner with the kings and queens but… I seem to be a bit lost.” The workers looked at each other knowingly and one stepped up to answer her. She was small but looked a little bit older than Y/N and her voice was stronger than Y/N imagined it would be. “It’s right this way, ma’am.” Y/N nodded and followed her as she walked ahead.Â
They turned down 2 or 3 long hallways until they finally reached two large doors. Gold seemed to be a theme in this place as the doors were gold with red detailing. The worker put her hand on the doors to open them but Y/N stopped her before she could. “Wait!” The girl looked at her quickly, surprise in her eyes. “Yes?” She asked. Y/N hesitated, “What’s your name?” The girl looked confused, but she smiled and answered anyway. “It’s Freya.” Y/N smiled as well. “It’s nice to meet you, Freya.” Freya put her hand back on the large door, but turned to face Y/N once more. “I know it’s not my place, but I would like to offer you a word of advice. It’s no secret that the young king is not exactly… pleased with this arrangement. But, he is kind and he will come around. Just give him some time to adjust to the idea of an arranged marriage.” Y/N nodded as Freya talked, but she wanted to make sure she understood. “The young king?” She asked. Freya smiled. “Yes, King Edmund.” Up until this moment, Y/N wasn’t sure which king she would be marrying. Now that she knew it was Edmund, she wasn’t sure if she should be glad or worried.Â
She took a deep breath and gestured for Freya to open the door. Freya pushed it open and Y/N stepped inside the large room. As soon as she entered the room, all four Pevensies turned to look at her. Y/N quickly bowed her head and spoke, her quiet voice echoing in the large room. “I apologize for being late, Your Majesties. I’m still learning my way around.” Lucy stood quickly and walked over to Y/N, looping her arm through Y/N’s. “No worries! It’s pretty confusing at first. When I first moved in, I got lost all the time.” Lucy continued to talk to Y/N as they walked to the table. “In our first few months here Ed would always find himself in the kitchen no matter where he was trying to go.” Y/N laughed, but it immediately turned nervous as Lucy dropped her off in the chair next to Edmund. A worker quickly set a plate full of food in front of Y/N and she started eating it immediately. She hadn’t realized how hungry she had gotten. After a while, Peter cleared his throat and Y/N looked up from her delicious food. “Sorry to discuss business over dinner, but I think we should start talking about the marriage arrangements.” Y/N nodded as she remembered the reason why she was here. It wasn’t just to enjoy good food and fancy bedrooms. She was here to help her kingdom. “Of course,” She said.Â
“Susan has already offered to plan the wedding. She’s good with details. Lucy has offered to plan the reception. And we want you to feel comfortable in your rooms so feel free to redecorate any way you like.” Peter explained. Y/N smiled appreciatively. “That’s very kind of you King Peter. My rooms are perfect, much nicer than anything I’m used to.” Y/N cringed as she said that. She probably shouldn’t be bringing up her financial troubles. “Alright. Well, that’s good to hear. The wedding has already been scheduled for next week. Is that acceptable?” Peter asked her. Y/N blinked in surprise, but quickly found her voice. “Of course, Your Majesty.” “Great, then let’s-” Peter was cut short when Edmund abruptly stood from the table and walked out of the room. Peter sighed and Y/N bit her lip. “Um, may I be excused as well?” She asked. “Oh, yes, of course. You don’t have to ask.” “Oh.” Her father had always made her ask before leaving the dinner table.Â
She stood and followed where Edmund had just stormed out. She walked quickly trying to catch up with him and saw a door shut behind him. She nervously twirled a piece of hair around her finger, trying to work up the courage to knock on his door. She took a deep breath and knocked twice on the door. Edmund opened the door mid-shout. “Go away Peter!” Y/N raised her eyebrows in surprise. “Sorry, I’m not Peter.” Edmund rolled his eyes. “Obviously. What do you want?” “Uh…” She tried to think of something to say. “I wanted to talk?” “Okay, so talk.” “Well, I just wanted to say I’m sorry if I’ve done something to offend you or-” “You haven’t.” “Oh. So why are you mad at me?” “I’m not.” This conversation was only confusing her more. “If you’re not mad at me then why are you upset?” He sighed. “I’m upset because I don’t want to marry you. I don’t even know you.” Y/N scoffed. “Then why don’t you get to know me?” Edmund ran his hands through his hair. “You’re not listening. I don’t want to get to know you. I’m marrying you because it’s good for Narnia and I care about my people, but that’s it. I’ll be polite, but don’t expect much else. Now, I’ll see you in the morning. Goodnight.” He shut the door, leaving Y/N standing there like an idiot. This was going to be a challenge.
