Mama kept us in suspense ALL DAY yesterday, but finally around midnight she delivered four healthy kids! Three boys, one girl, and all but one of the boys have lovely blue eyes. Prepare for SO MANY baby goat photos!
Passed OUT.
Something is lying in wait for the donkeys feed to be dumped into their trough… 😂😂😂
Today I learned that Horseware makes Goat Coats 😂
Welcome to our super cute new buck! The poor guy is REALLY well bred but came from a neglect situation. Look how itchy he is! Getting him dewormed and deloused, but until then he’ll stay in the iso stall. Currently named Rex but I think I’ll probably change it.
The boys say “PET US PLEEEEASE!”
How to catch escaped goats 😂
Some of my friends came over to get the goats in the holiday spirit with a delicious Christmas wreath 😂

Get a dwarf goat, it’s like a vegan dog.
I am very sad to announce that early Thanksgiving morning we said goodbye to our lamb, Loki. We knew when we took him in that his rough start in life and degenerative muscle condition meant his future was uncertain. But we are so glad we got the time with him that we did, making him as happy and comfortable as possible and giving him a fulfilling life with his buck friend Thor.
He was running, playing, and munching hay when last we saw him the night before, and as best we can tell his passing was the swift and painless result of heart failure. We will miss him, but will always remember him as the playful lamb that followed us everywhere.
Spot the problem... 😂
is it me or does #goatblr consist of myself and @hoof-kittens

Loki the lamb - update! He still lacks muscle, but we've got his energy and appetite up! He's eating and trying to run around, so hopefully muscle will start to grow soon!

I finally got with the program and joined. It won’t be just horses, but all my farm animals! I’m using our farm name as a handle, that_ranch_on_the_side! Please check me out there, and even if you don’t feel like following me, comment with your IG name so I can follow you guys! ^_^

Hi, I couldn't find the ask box on your goat blog so I am asking here. Does getting the horn buds removed hurt the goats or affect them longterm? I thought I'd heard it was better to leave their horns, but I don't know much about goats.
It depends on the situation! In some breeds, only the males get horns. Since males are kept separately, and most breeders only have a few, it’s not as big of a deal. A lot of breeds also have very small or curves horns that might be low risk.
Nigerian dwarf goat’s get short, straight, pointy horns. And both the males and females get them. This means that any small disagreement could potentially turn into a death match, or at the very least someone might get tangled up, horns might get ripped, and horrible injuries can ensue.
Even the tiny nubs sometimes left behind by the debudding process can be ripped off when someone headbutts too violently, and I’ve had to stop the bleeding on a couple of them. I can’t imagine how much worse it would be if a large, vascular horn got ripped off!
Basically, it depends on the breed of goat, what kind of horns they would grow, and what kind of living situation they will be in. For Nigerians and their horn type, and the fact that I keep a group of them together, my vet absolutely recommends dehorning them.
Sidenote: I have heard the one benefit of leaving the horns on is that it makes it easier for the goats to cool themselves, but most goats cool themselves primarily by panting (they do not sweat very effectively) and I have yet to see evidence that the horns make a real difference.
