Jenn started making plushies in 2008 when she reached a saturation point with how many people she could bestow scarves, hats, and afghans on. She still had the fidgets while reading her homework assignments or watching TV, but needed something to make. Because she has a wildly overactive imagination and an incurable OtakuNerdGamerGeek personality, she started modifying simple snowman-doll patterns, and writing her own patterns as needed, to reflect some of the characters that inspire her most. Four years later, her studio has grown to four artists, a very helpful accountant, and a small squadron of allies, helper-minions and support staff.

Let me tell you a thing, about an amazing man named Patrick Stewart

I went to Comicpalooza this weekend and I was full of nervous energy as I was standing in line to ask Sir Patrick Stewart a question at his panel. I first had to thank him for a speech he had given at amnesty international about domestic violence towards women . I had only seen it a few months ago but I was still dealing with my own personal experience with a similar issue, and I didn’t know what to call it. After seeing Patrick talk so personally about it I finally was able to correctly call it abuse, in my case sexual abuse that was going to quickly turn into physical abuse as well. I didn’t feel guilty or disgusting anymore. I finally didn’t feel responsible for the abuse that was put upon me. I was finally able to start my healing process and to put that part of my life behind me.

After thanking him I asked him “Besides acting, what are you most proud of that you have done in you life (that you are willing to share with us)?”. Sir Patrick told us about how he couldn’t protect his mother from abuse in his household growing up and so in her name works with an organization called Refuge for safe houses for women and children to escape from abusive house holds. Sir Patrick Stewart learned only last year that his father had actually been suffering from PTSD after he returned from the military and was never properly treated. In his father’s name he works with an organization called Combat Stress to help those soldiers who are suffering from PTSD.

They were about to move onto the next question when Sir Patrick looked at me and asked me “My Dear, are you okay?” I said yes, and that I was finally able to move on from that part of my life. He then passionately said that his mother had done nothing to provoke his father and that even if she had, violence was never, ever a choice a man should make. That it is in the power of men to stop violence towards women. The moderator then asked “Do you want a hug?”

Sir Patrick didn’t even hesitate, he smiled, hopped off the stage and came over to embrace me in a hug. Which he held me there for a long while. He told me “You never have to go through that again, you’re safe now.” I couldn’t stop thanking him. His embrace was so warm and genuine. It was two people, two strangers, supporting and giving love. And when we pulled away he looked strait in my eyes, like he was promising that. He told me to take care. And I will.

Sir Patrick Stewart is an absolute roll model for men. He is an amazing man and was so kind and full of heart. I want to let everyone know to please find help if you are in a violent or abusive house hold or relationship. There are organizations and people ready to help. I had countless people after the panel thanking me for sharing the story and asking him those questions. Many said they went through similar things. You are not alone.

We swear, we're not dead!

We've just been getting ourselves and our shop through the holidays - which are like a month-long con unto themselves O_o this year we sent over 40 dolls off to be holiday surprises, to no less than 4 countries (outside the US)! That's a lot of merrymaking ^_^

Now that we're safely in 2013 and the Mayans have failed to send us all into the apocalypse (thanks in no small part to Appa, who wrote a letter to Santa asking him to stop the world from ending - because as we all know, the magic of Santa doesn't work unless someone asks!), we're getting ourselves geared up for con season. Will and Biz have made so many spare parts we can't store them all, Ben is already tired of assembling 10th Doctor dolls, and we're paying con fees and arranging our schedule.

And also - and this is the important part, if you just wanna tl;dr this - we raised a bunch of our prices for 2013. We keep succeeding, so we keep needing to feed new minions in order to keep up ^^; but there's gonna be a wider variety of price-points as well, as we start actually listing some of the keychains and hacky-sacks in the Etsy store. ALSO HEY ALL YOU TUMBLRS: We admit, while we need to raise prices, it isn't our favorite thing to do. One of my habits is to write down all the crazy, fleeting ideas I have, then go back to review later rather than judging right off the bat, or even worse, forgetting them.  Earlier in the month I was looking through that idea notepad and found “Make Tetris Pumpkins” from sometime last year. My original plan had been to make forms to shape pumpkins into Tetris pieces as they grew, then stack them together for Halloween. Since Halloween was only a few weeks away and it was too late to start growing pumpkins, I thought “Why not make a pumpkin you can play Tetris on instead?”

Your tumblr has changed alot. Did something happen? Sorry I'm anon, I don't have an account but I'm a fan and I used to love to visit your tumblr but not so much lately. Sorry if that sound rude >_<

It sounds disappointing - don't we all like to be loved? XD - but it doesn't sound rude, and I'm sure you're not the only person on the Internet asking "what the hell?".

We're a studio of 4 artists here, and until recently, we had the workload divided a little differently, so that one person was primarily in charge of managing all the social media. That was okay, until that one person left suddenly - and the rest of us had to scramble around to pick up that work and add it to our own. So in addition to the dust of "rearranging what everyone does", we've also learned that a drawback to having only one person be your internet voice is that, if that person leaves, so does your entire internet voice.

We're spreading out the "work" of managing our Internet accounts (dA, Tumblr, Facebook etc), so that if any of us leave in the future, this transition isn't as jarring to our fans. Ultimately we feel it's also a more accurate representation of the entire studio and not just the one person who's on the Internet that second. But in the meantime, people who were personally fans of the person who -had- been managing this account are probably gonna feel a little "hey, what happened man?" :-\ and there's nothing we can really do to fix that. And we're sorry.

As we get more used to handling things, we'll all start writing more of our own content in addition to the "here's a doll!" post and the LAWLFUNNY reblogs. And they'll be less than 100% comic books and gender issues, because while those are important to us, they're not the only things that matter to a collective of 4 people who sell dolls at anime cons. ^^; So there'll be variance. But again, we think this'll ultimately be a better experience for everyone.
