Angstmas 2023: Day 4/25
4 - “Say you do not care for me. Say you feel nothing, and I will walk away.” Benedict x Reader
Reader has always been in love with Benedict Bridgerton
Angstmas 2023
You glance at the door as Anthony and Katherine walk in, there children immediately running to the table that was littered with little sandwiches and treats. Anthony and Katherine move to the empty chairs beside Daphne and they all begin chatting.
You feel your shoulders slump as you turn back to your plate only to catch your friend, Eloise’s eyes. She gives you a small smile, “He will be here, this is his welcome home tea after all,” she states, reaching forward and grabbing the untouched sandwich on your plate. “Stop looking so hopelessly in love with him, you’ll scare him off.”
You smile to yourself as you sit back in the chair. You had loved Benedict Bridgerton for years. You would say it was love at first sight, at least for you.
You had first met him when you were thirteen at a garden party at Audrey Hall. You got roped into playing pall mall and learned that you had quite the competitive spirit. You had run off after your ball, only to slip on a slick piece of grass and land on your thigh with a thud.
Your friends had laughed and asked if you were alright before moving on to the next hoop. You had straightened your skirt, your face burning with embarrassment. A shadow looms over you and you look up to see Benedict Bridgerton standing over you. He reaches a hand out, “Are you okay?”
You graciously take it and he helps you to your feet. “Anything hurt?”
You shake your head. “No, just a wounded pride,” you say, as you glance at where your friends were walking towards the house. The game is long forgotten. You couldn’t help but feel disappointed.
Benedict chuckled. “All the best pall mall players leave the field bruised and injured,” he states, giving you his elbow as you both begin walking back to the house. The game was forgotten. “Last year, I was playing against my siblings. I hit the ball so hard that it hit a tree and ended up bouncing back and pinging me right in the forehead.”
You laughed, “Seriously?”
He nods, turning towards you and pointing with his other hand to his forehead, right above his left eye as if you would still be able to see the bruise. “I had a welt on my forehead for two months. My mother was not happy.”
You had rushed to your mother’s room that night and told her how he had saved you from ruin and that you would marry him one day. Your mother had laughed in response but you knew it was true.
From that moment you had known he was the one. He would sit beside you at parties, ask you to dance when you were finally out in society, he had even taken the time to teach you to paint. You knew he was the one for you. You just had to be patient until he realized.
“Family!” A familiar voice fills the room and you look up to see Benedict standing in the doorway. He drops his luggage and moves across the room to hug his mother before turning to the rest of his siblings that were scattered around the sitting room. His eyes pause on you slightly and he gives you a wide smile. “I have a very exciting guest to introduce you all too.”
You all turn to one another as the door opens again and a beautiful lady walks into the room. She was wearing an exquisite dress and Benedict's hand immediately reached out to hold hers. “Family,” he says again, pulling his attention away from the women and looking around. “This is my fiance.”
Time seems to stop as the word replays in your mind. Your eyes moved from Benedict to the woman he now held close to his chest. You felt someone grasp your hand and turned to see Eloise, giving you a small smile. “Are you alright?” she asks.
You nod and try to muster up a smile. He was engaged. You had spent your whole life loving him. Trying to win his affection, you had thought that you did have his affection. You obviously didn’t since he left for a month and fell in love.
Eloise squeezes your hand before moving to congratulate her brother. You took this time to disappear, exiting the room and walking down the street to your own family’s home.
You didn’t see any Bridgerton’s for a fortnight, until you received an invitation for the ball being given to celebrate Benedict’s engagement. There was no way out of it, so you got dressed in your favorite gown and found yourself standing on the outside of the crowd watching the couples dance.
You stand on the outside of the crowd, moving the fabric of your dress between your fingers. The last time you were in the room was at your first ball. You were older than Eloise so she wasn;t out yet and Francesca had already moved to Scotland, so you were by yourself.
You had walked the edge of the dance floor, watching all the couples laugh and talk. You felt embarrassed, as if everyone was looking at you all alone and laughing. You were a song away from hiding away in the gardens until it was time to go.
The song ends, and you begin making your way to the exit when a tall figure steps in front of you. “Not leaving yet, are you?” Benedict asks.
You smile as you look up at him. “I was just going to go out onto the balcony for some fresh air,” you reply.
His lip twitches into a smile. “That’s a shame. I really wanted to dance,” he says. Your heart jumps as you look up at him and he reaches a hand out to you. You smile as you take it and he leads you onto the dance floor. He always seemed to be saving you.
You watch as he dances with his now fiancee and you move to the balcony, no one here to ask you to dance tonight.
“I haven’t seen you around lately.”
You turn to see Benedict standing in the door frame, you can hear the hum of music and laughter behind him. “I’ve been busy,” you say, leaving it at that, you were too emotionally drained to come up with a lie of what was making you busy. You couldn’t exactly tell him you were too busy contemplating how he could leave and love someone else.
He nods, and moves to stand beside you. “Have you had the opportunity to meet-,”
“No,” you say quietly. You didn’t want to meet her. She was probably lovely, intelligent, everything Benedict deserved in a partner, but you couldn’t look at her, talk with her, smile with her, when all you wanted was to be in her place.
Benedict looks taken aback. “Are you okay?” he asks slowly.
You take a breath in, turning to face Benedict fully. I was now or never, you should be honest. He should know how you feel, perhaps he felt the same but was scared so he looked elsewhere. “No, I am not,” you reply, “I am in love with you, Benedict. I always have been.”
His mouth drops open and his eyes widen.
“I thought you might love me too,” you continue, now that you had started you were finding it hard to stop. “You wrote me letters, beautiful letters. You brought me back souvenirs. You danced with me, you asked me to walk with you. You always sat next to me when I joined your family for tea.”
He still looks down at you in surprise. “I-,” he begins, glancing back to the open door and back to you. “I am engaged. I am to be wed.”
You shake your head, reaching forward to grab his hand. “Say you do not care for me as I care for you. Say you feel nothing, and I will walk away,” you say, not trying to stop the pleading in your voice as you look up at him.
He lets your hand drop with a small shake of your head. “I am engaged to a woman I love dearly,” Benedict says, stepping back from you. You pull your arms around your torso, a new chill in the air as the space between you increases. “I am sorry.”
You nod, turning away, and leaning your elbows on the railing.
“I care for you,” Benedict begins, and you turn to look at him. “I care for you like I care for Daphne, Eloise-,”
“Like your sister,” you interrupt.
He nods, “I do not want to lose our friendship.”
Someone inside is calling his name but he stays there watching you, waiting. You muster up the best smile you can. “You won’t,” you say, “I promise.”
But as you watched him smile and turn back to enter the ballroom, you knew that that would be the last time you saw him.
Hi!! I love your friends writing!! I have an idea and it’s totally fine if you don’t like the ideas, but what if Joey and reader broke up, ( he cheated or whatever you want) before all of the friends met. And she gets introduced to him as like one of the others sister/school friend.

Central Perk.
You came to a stop before the sign on the front of the coffee shop where Rachel had told you to meet her.
You took a deep breath. You were excited to see her after so many years—eight years, to be exact. You were best friends all throughout middle school and part of high school, but then you’d been in different circles and, especially ever since you’d moved out of the state, you had lost touch.
When she heard you were going to be in New York visiting some family, you both had made plans to see each other and she had suggested here.
You pushed open the door and saw Rachel, sitting in a chair and sipping from a yellow mug.
“Rachel?”
“(Y/n)?” She ran over to you, giving you a big hug. “Wow, you look great!”
“I could say the same about you,” you said, as she led you to the couch opposite the chair she’d been occupying and you both sat down.
“So tell me,” she said, “What’s new with you since high school?”
Where did you even begin?
“Well, college,” you started, “and now I’m a—”
You cut off as you saw someone enter the room. Someone you would recognize anywhere.
“You ever wonder why restrooms are called restrooms. I mean, you don’t rest in there,” the man said as he walked from the back towards Rachel.
Joey Tribbiani.
You hadn’t thought you would ever see him again. Not after all this time. Not after what he did to you.
But it was definitely him. He had the same hair, the same style, the same swagger that he walked with like he was just so damn attractive.
And he was so damn attractive, you thought as you looked at him. Curse him. Curse him and his good genes.
“Hey Joe,” Rachel said, “I’d like to introduce you to my friend, (Y/n).”
Joey turned to you and his eyes widened. He stared at you for a moment before turning back to Rachel.
“And (Y/n), this is Joey.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Joey,” you said, keeping a pleasant expression on your face.
“The pleasure is all mine,” Joey shook your hand, “(Y/n).”
“Ok, am I missing something here?” Rachel looked confused, “Do you two know each other?”
“Yes,” you and Joey said at the same time and Rachel’s brow furrowed.
“Rach, can I talk to you for a minute?” You said, dragging her away from Joey and towards the other side of the coffee shop.
“What is he doing here?” you whispered.
“Joey? He’s a friend of mine, why?”
“We kind of have a history,” you said, rising a glance over at Joey but he was already sitting down and eating a croissant. Typical.
“Did you guys used to date or something?” Rachel looked at you.
“That’s one word for it,” you bit out, “Yes, we dated. Until he cheated on me with Lucinda Figglebottom in senior year of high school.”
It had been many years since you and Joey had dated. Since you had walked in on him making out with one of your classmates who he swore was just a friend. Since he had broken your heart.
And you had moved on a long time ago. You had hardly even thought of Joey and what he did to you. Time had made you numb to it as time has a way with doing to all things.
But seeing him here, with Rachel. You felt like you were 18 again and you remembered why you had hated him for so many months.
And Joey didn’t even look affected, you thought. He had been surprised to see you, sure. But he clearly hadn’t been hurt as you had. Why would he have been when he’s the one who cheated on you?
“Wow (Y/n), I had no idea—” Rachel said apologetically.
“How could you have known? It’s fine, it was a long time ago, and we’re all adults here,” you assured her.
“Most of us,” you mumbled under your breath.
You and Rachel walked over to where Joey was sitting.
“Well,” Rachel said, “Now that we’ve got the introductions out of the way. (Y/n), you were telling me about your life now.”
Now that Joey was here listening, you felt the need to exaggerate the better points of your life. That would show him that you were different now from the girl who ran out of the room crying when she found her boyfriend cheating on her and spent the next few months crying until her tear ducts didn’t have any tears left.
“My life?” You started, “Oh you know, I travel a lot, when my work allows it. But, I try not to leave my husband and kids in that big house alone for too long. You understand, of course.”
The fact that you had a house was the only true part of that sentence. Rachel looked at you curiously.
“Oh, speaking of work, I have an audition,” Joey said, standing up. You sighed. You were pretty sure he hadn’t even been paying attention to anything you just said.
“So you’re still acting?” You couldn’t resist, “I assume it’s going better for you than when I knew you?”
“Yeah, well, I’d better get going,” Joey said, not quite meeting your eye. “It was good seeing you again (Y/n).”
He stood up and left in a hurry before you could say anything else, and you and Rachel were left alone.
“Oh my god he’s still in love with you!” Rachel said.
You spun around, “What?”
“Did you see the way he looked at you? I mean, he didn’t flirt with you or ask you out or try to look at your backside or anything.”
You stared at her baffled, “And that means he’s in love with me?”
Rachel nodded and you shook your head, “No. Trust me. He does not want to get back together with me and I certainly don’t want to get back together with him.”
You were both silent for a moment before Rachel’s face lip up as she looked like she had an idea,
“Hey, why don’t you come to Monica’s birthday party this Saturday. It would give us another chance to catch up and you could meet some of my other friends.”
“Is Joey going to be there?” You asked her, trying to keep your tone casual.
Rachel opened her mouth to respond but you cut her off. Why should it matter if Joey was going? You could be in the same room together, for goodness sakes. You weren't going to not go just because Joey might be there.
“Never mind,” you said, “I’ll be there.”
₊˚ ✧ ‿︵‿୨୧‿︵‿ ✧ ₊˚
You walked into Rachel and Monica’s apartment that Saturday, feeling better than you had since you’d been in New York again.
The low cut, tight dress you had picked out and the heels you were wearing made you feel confident. Confident enough to walk in there and not care if you saw Joey or not.
In fact, you hoped you did see him. Then he could see how moved on you were and how much you didn’t care about him.
“Hey, (Y/n),” Rachel called, “You remember Monica.”
Monica walked over and stood next to Rachel. “Hey,” you greeted her, “It’s nice to see you again. And happy birthday.”
Monica smiled at you, gesturing around the apartment, “Make yourself at home. We have drinks over there and hors d’oeuvres over here.”
You thanked her and walked with Rachel towards the table with snacks and plates. You caught a flash of blue fabric to your right and you looked there seeing Joey. He was standing with a woman and he had his arm around her shoulders as they laughed about something.
Joey can date whoever he wants, you thought bitterly. Why should I care?
“On second thought, let’s go to the drinks table,” you told Rachel.
She followed your gaze and nodded, walking over with you to pour your drinks. You caught Joey’s eye as you passed by him and his eyes widened as he saw you.
His gaze trailed down your outfit and then back up to your face before he looked away quickly.
You would make it though this, you resolved, taking sip of your drink.
That one drink quickly turned into several, however, and you found yourself feeling lighter than you had all week.
You met all of Rachel’s other friends and after she left to go to the bathroom, you walked over to the drink table again and scanned the room for Joey. You didn’t see him and you scolded yourself for looking.
“Can I make you a drink?” A tall man came up behind you and you smiled up at him.
“Sure thing,” you slurred as you watched him pour different alcohols into a glass for you.
He made two and then handed you one of them, which you downed very quickly. He grabbed your wrist and led you to a corner of the room that was less populated.
It took all of three seconds before his hands were on you. An alarm went off in the back of your head but you ignored it. Maybe this was what you wanted.
Seeing Joey this week had brought up a lot of bad memories and right now you just wanted to forget. The man you were with began kissing your neck and you saw a gleam in his eye. You knew you should be getting away from him but you couldn’t make yourself. You didn’t want to.
You let him push you up against the wall and as he brought his lips to yours, you kissed him back. People were looking but you ignored them. You wrapped you arms around him and flipped around so he was against the wall. As the mystery man smiled down at you, he began sliding his hands down your dress and you helped him by fumbling for the zipper on the side and starting to unzip it. You stopped as you felt someone’s presence behind you.
“(Y/n), it’s time to go,” Joey came up behind you and you felt his hand on your waist. He discreetly zipped your dress back up. Where did he even come from?
“Get off me,” you whispered-yelled, turning to face him.
“(Y/n), you’re very drunk,” he whispered back.
“So?”
“Come with me before you do something you regret,” he pulled you away from your corner of the room.
You scoffed, “Are you sure you’re not just jealous?”
Joey looked like he wanted to say something else but settled for. “(Y/n), come with me. I’m trying to help you.”
“I don’t need your help,” you tried to elbow him but he just griped your arm harder and pulled you away.
“Where are we going?” You spat as he dragged you out of the room and across the hall.
“My apartment,” Joey said.
“No,” you squirmed in his grip, “I don’t want to go anywhere with you.”
Joey ignored you and opened the door to his apartment, dropping you down on the couch.
You stood up in outrage, but your head spun and so you sat back down.
“Here,” Joey said, handing you a mug of coffee, “drink this.”
“Why are you doing this?” You tried to figure out amongst the fog in your brain what in the world Joey was thinking. You hadn’t talked or seen each other in years since you broke up—which was his fault— and now he was acting like you were friends.
Joey didn’t answer you, just waited until you took a sip of the warm, bitter liquid before walking back into the kitchen and digging in the fridge.
“What if I want to go back in there?” You asked him, trying to get his attention.
“And let that guy stick his tongue down your throat again? He was taking advantage of you, (Y/n).”
Was he? You couldn’t think. “Why do you care?”
“Because,” he said, standing up straight and walking over to sit down next to you, “I care about you, (Y/n). Just because things ended…the way they did, doesn’t mean I don’t care about you.”
“You hurt me, Joey,” you tucked your hair behind your ears. All of a sudden you felt like crying. Yes, the many years that had passed made you numb to his betrayal. But deep down, you still hated him.
Joey rubbed the back of his neck. “I know,” was all he said.
And he looked so sincere. So vulnerable. So much like he had when you were together. God, he was gorgeous, you thought. You leaned in closer to him.
“You hurt me a lot,” you whispered, closer to his face now.
He scooted back, away from you and you closed the distance again.
You put your hand on his shoulder and he shrugged it off. “(Y/n)—”
“Do you want to hurt me again?” You were practically on Joey’s lap now. “Then kiss me.”
You leaned forwards and Joey abruptly stood up. He looked flustered and you wanted him to get back on the couch and kiss you. Kiss you until you stopped being mad at him and you could pretend everything was like it was before.
“(Y/n), you’ve had a lot to drink. Try to get some rest, ok?” He walked out of the room and you laid your head down on one of the pillows.
You wanted him to lay with you and hold you in his arms and—
What were you thinking? This was Joey Tribbiani, the man who had kissed another woman while you two were dating and had broken your heart. What were you doing thinking of him that way?
Snap out of it, you told yourself.
And then your eyelids drooped and you struggled to keep them open. You gave in and let sleep take you for the night.
₊˚ ✧ ‿︵‿୨୧‿︵‿ ✧ ₊˚
You awoke with a start, looking around and blinking sleep from your eyes. You glanced down at your shirt—no, Joey’s shirt. And Joey’s bed.
You sat up in horror. Fragments of the night before came back to you.
Joey walked in carrying a mug with coffee. Something about it felt vaguely familiar about the past night. He handed it to you and you took it from, griping his forearm.
“Joey, I’m in your bed.”
“Yeah,” he said sheepishly, “You fell asleep on the couch but I didn’t want to you be cold so I—”
“But we didn't—”
“No, of course not! I would never—” He looked down, “How much do you remember from last night?”
You strained to recollect anything. The pounding in your head wasn’t making it very easy. “Enough to remember that I made a fool of myself.”
And forced myself on you.
“That’s not—,” he started, “well, I wouldn’t say you made a fool of yourself.”
“Oh god,” you ran your fingers through your tangled hair, “of all the things that could’ve happened. Waking up in the bed of the man I’m supposed to hate!”
Supposed to hate. You realized it after you said it. You’d thought you despised Joey. You did. But all you could remember was Joey brining you back to his apartment last night and saving your butt. Another memory came back.
“I should thank you,” you told him, “Y’know, for rescuing me.”
Joey shrugged, “I would have done it for anyone I cared about.”
You were so confused. Confused about how you felt about Joey and how he could be acting so kind right now when he had been such a jerk to you.
You supposed people changed. It was a long time ago, and you knew that. But you had to know why.
You couldn’t believe you were about to ask this. But after all that had happened in the past 24 hours, you had courage enough to manage a weak, “Why, Joey?”
“Well, when you know someone really well—”
“No, not that,” you said, “I meant all those years ago. Why?”
Joey sighed and sat down on the edge of the bed.
“(Y/n), if you’re talking about why we broke up—”
“Why we broke up?” Your voice rose. Just when you were starting to soften towards him for helping you. “You mean why you cheated on me?”
“Let me explain,” he said, calmly, “Lucinda and I really were just friends.”
“Is that what you told yourself after you made out with her? I’d say you were really good friends.”
Joey continued. “She had just broken up with her ex and so she asked me as a friend, to kiss her so he’d get jealous and want to get back with her. Her ex was supposed to walk through that door, not you. But I promise, we were always just friends. I was just helping her out. I would’ve asked you, but she was so embarrassed about it that she didn’t want anyone to know.”
Wow. What were you even supposed to say to that? If that was true then…
“But, why didn’t you say anything?”
“You didn’t really give me the chance,” he confessed. You supposed he was right. After you’d caught him with Lucinda you’d ran away and avoided him in any way you could. You’d never come into contact with him again until a week ago.
“But if I’d have known—” you broke off, “I was in love with you Joey.”
“I felt really bad for screwing things up,” he said, “I loved you too and I missed you a lot afterwards. But I didn’t know what to do and so I just let you get away. It’s the biggest regret I’ll ever have.”
“It’s not your fault Joey,” you said, “It was a misunderstanding and that’s that. I can’t believe I hated you for so many years.”
“God, if I could just go back,” Joey said.
“Maybe we don’t have to,” you looked up at him.
“If you’re saying we should kiss right now, then I definitely agree,” Joey smirked and you laughed.
You leaned towards him and brought his lips to yours. It had been a while since you’d done this, with Joey or anybody. It wasn’t perfect but it was exactly what you wanted. You pulled away, smiling.
“I’ve been wanting to do this since the moment I saw you in Central Perk,” Joey admitted.
“Really?” You said, teasing. “Creep.”
“It is not my fault you’re that gorgeous, (Y/n).”
“You’re not bad yourself,” you said, kissing him again.
“So, while you’re in New York, maybe I could take you out sometime? Again.” Joey added.
“I’d like that a lot.”
You were thrilled. You had gone from hating Joey to kissing him in his bed. What a wild week. You knew that a lot of time had passed since your’s and Joey’s relationship and it would take some time to get to know each other again. But you wanted to do it. You wanted to make up for the time your missed when you could have been together.
“We should tell Rachel about this,” you said, “She’ll probably be ecstatic. She had this crazy idea that you were still in love with me after all these years.”
Joey looked into your eyes, brushing the hair back from your face.
“I don’t think it’s that crazy, (Y/n). I don’t think it’s crazy at all.”

maxverstappen1 Five World Championships!
This one feels extra special because I get to celebrate with the love of my life who has been by my side for over three incredible years now ❤️
So I want to dedicate this championship to Y/N
Seeing Y/N thrive as Red Bull’s Chief Technical Officer and pursue her passion for motorsport after everything she has been through has been so special. Her brilliance and determination inspire me daily, both on and off the track. And her contributions to the team have been invaluable to our success. I am so lucky to have such an incredible partner to share these championships with
Winning races and championships is great but sharing my life with someone as smart, driven and caring as Y/N is the greatest gift I could ever ask for. I truly am the luckiest guy in the world. Fuck the gossip girl reboot. We don’t want new main characters in high school making a rip off version of the original story line. If you’re gonna make a gg reboot do it R I G H T. We want the many divorces and marriages of the original characters and we want to see their kids grow up under the eye of the new gossip girl. We want Dan and Serena to be divorced so Serena can be with Nate and we want to see Blair and Chuck live as a married couple and we want to see every one of Georgina’s seven marriages. We want to see Jenny being a successful designer while still hating her. We want to see Lily, Rufus and Eleanor and Cyrus as grandparents. We don’t want the bs they’re gonna spit out for money. We want a continuation of the ORIGINAL AND BELOVED CHARACTERS.

"It's, like, exploding eyeliner or something. Every time I use it I look like I've cried my eyes out," Sirius says.
You linger behind the doorway, hands curled into your shirt behind your back. James, your boyfriend, is lying down on the sofa. You'd been sitting with him until you needed to use the bathroom, and while you were gone his friends came home.
You can't complain —it's their house, not yours. But you don't know what to do now.
"I thought you changed to pencil," James says, stretching like a cat in the sun, the firm lines of his chest rippling. You're shy, but you can't lie to yourself. James is a catch. "Like, the kohl stuff."
"It's hard to put on."
"And take off," Remus says, having splayed beside Sirius on the single armchair.
Sirius pulls Remus' thigh further into his lap. "So I decided against it for Remus' sake." He must have a better sixth sense than the other two, turning in the chair to smile at you. "Hey, doll. You okay?"
"I–" You beg yourself not to stammer. "M'okay. How are you?"
James beckons for you to come in as Remus answers, "Don't ask him, he'll never stop complaining."
You obey James' ask and try to sit where you'd been before at his feet, but he catches your waist and pulls you down. Your back across his hips, his arm over your stomach, it isn't intimate in the dirty sense but intimate all the same. Your cheeks catch fire instantaneously.
"I'm quite good, actually," Sirius says.
"Yeah?" You sound ridiculous. "What about you, Remus? Did you, um, did you finish your new chapter?"
Remus grins at your remembering. James' hand squeezes approvingly, clearly pleased as well as Remus delves into an explanation of why his novel seems to have stagnated. Your stiff as a rod despite James' nice handling while you listen. You want to lie down with him, your eyes heavy, the light outside fading as the boys talk, but appearances hold you back, even as Remus dissolves into Sirius side like wet paper and kips.
"You okay?" James asks, hand climbing up to just below your chest. "Lie down with me."
"I don't want to be, you know, rude," you whisper.
James doesn't laugh nor tease you. "It's not rude, lovely, this is my house, and you're welcome to do what you like when you're here." He's whispering too, careful not to talk louder than the TV. "If you want to lie down, you can. He won't care, and it's not rude. I'll cover you up like a blanket anyway."
James sits up a little and pulls you gently to his front. You put your legs up next to his and lay back, giving in to the lul of his warm skin seeping through your shirt, the coiled muscled of his forearm where he squeezes you up tight to his chest.
Sirius looks over at the movement. "We're just cushions, mate," he says to James, grinning.
James kisses the side of your head with palpable pride. "That's all I was made to be," he says happily.

📸 END UP HERE
synopsis. when a guy keeps harassing his best mate’s cousin, there’s not a single thought on his mind that would make theo feel bad about wanting to beat the shit out of him.
theo nott x lestrange!reader. PLEASE. request more things for theo or mattheo. i’m literally in need.
theo couldn’t remember the exact moment, when his mind filled the urge to hit cormac mclaggen as hard as possible. on second thought, he definitely could.
theo’s been watching you ever since the party started. you were standing in the corner of the room, trying to get as little attention as possible — you wouldn’t even been there if amelia didn’t beg you to be her emotional support, so considering you were the best roommate (and friend) she could imagine, you said yes. maybe it was just the start of mistakes you were supposed to make that night, or so you thought.
you had a tight, dark red dress on you that hugged all your curves in the places it should. your make up just made you stand out from all the girls there, that’s what theo thought when he saw you. of course, you didn’t want to be there, but you couldn’t just pass on an occasion to dress up a bit, since you were going anyway. maybe your clothing choice was another of those mistakes.
nott’s attention was fully on you — a girl tried to hit him up? too bad, because she wasn’t even half as pretty as you were, and he knew you didn’t even try. it became obvious to all his friends that you were… quite a distraction. he would engage in a conversation, trying hard to have his focus on his friends, but then you would do something, and he felt obligated to look at you, but you were clearly oblivious to his gaze averting and coming back every once in a while.
“can you stop eye-fucking my cousin?” draco groaned, leaning on the wall behind them, bringing a cup to his lips, taking a small sip of alcohol. “it’s disgusting.” he added.
draco malfoy was the only reason that kept theodore from getting his hands on you, at least that’s what he would always tell people he bluntly ignored, when you walked into the room he was in. just because draco treated you like a sister, people thought nott would get a hold of his hormones.
but how could he, when you always looked so gorgeous?
“i’m not eye-fucking her, i’m a cultured man.” he said, getting lots of mocking laughs from mattheo and lorenzo (“you? a cultured man? never heard that much bullshit in my life.”). “i’m admir— ouch, c’mon, malfoy.” his fingers massaged the place that the blonde boy punched.
it all happened later that night, when nott was already a little lightheaded from a blunt he was smoking with mattheo. even if he didn’t want to concentrate on you, it was pointless, so he just watched you, shamelessly, being teased for it by his friend at the same time.
he noticed that cormac fucking mclaggen cornered you, and you had no possible chance to run away from him, your eyes scanning the room, looking for help until your gaze landed on theodore’s face, and he knew immediately. you watched him get up from the couchy, mumbling something to riddle before he made his way towards the corner you stood in.
he didn’t even say a thing, the discomfort in your eyes was enough to assume everything. he tapped the gryffindor’s shoulder, quickly throwing his fist forward, and you could’ve swore to god that you had heard bones crushing. theo just grinned mischievously as cormac looked at him a confussed expression, brushing his lip with his thumb.
but nott didn’t stop himself there, starting a fight. while mclaggen’s friends tried to pull the poor gryffindor away from theo, mattheo and enzo just stood behind him, with wide, prideful grins on their faces, shouting once in a while to encourage theo to “crush his skull”. if it wasn’t for blaise, who finally appeared (with amelia right beside him), the fight would go for probably even longer until one of the teachers didn’t interfere.
“stay the fuck away from her, mclaggen.” dark-haired spat at his opponent, the adrenaline running through his veins, so the bruises didn’t hurt at all. not until he was sat by the edge of the bathtub by you, when he realized that his face was throbbing with pain.
“theo.” you whispered, stading right between his legs, trying so hard to focus on patching him up more than the burning sensation of his hand on her hip. hearing the way you said his name almost made him groan — you were so perfect in his eyes that if he manned up, his hands would be everywhere, not just your hip. “could you please lift your head for me?”
there was something so incredibly intimate about that moment. he just fought for you, and instead of getting mad, you were right next to him, cleaning his face and hands off the blood, speaking so softly and touching him with such a gentle manner that theodore thought he died and woke up in heaven.
“i thought you said you wouldn’t be fighting random guys anymore.” you began, brushing his hair back, so you could press the wet towel to his forehead. “was he making you uncomfortable?” he asked, his tone a little raspy.
“well, yeah but–”
“then it wasn’t random.” theo shrugged, and if you two were in different circumstances now, you wouldn’t be able to stop yourself from crashing your lips into his. “he should’ve known that you’re my girl.” he mumbled as his hand slipped down on your thigh, his fingers digging into your soft flesh.
“you looked so good tonight.” he muttered after a minute of silence as you kept trying to concentrate on helping him first. a sigh left his lips as he pulled you a little closer. “i want to rip that dress off you, jesus. what are you doing to me?”
it took him one more swift pull to get you to straddle him. his fingers traced soft circles on your outer thighs as you were silently finishing up your job. your entire body was burning. unfortunately, your face was revealing the effect he had on you, and you hated it, because theo always made it his mission to make you blush as hard as possible.
the thing between you two was… indescribable. you weren’t a couple, but you acted like one, you weren’t friends with benefits, but you weren’t just friends. there were feelings involved and neither of you denied. there were mutual attraction, desire, urgency and neither of you could see themselves with someone else. if soulmates existed, then theodore faustus nott was yours and no one else’s.
“alright.” now, it’s your turn to sigh. you put the towel aside, cupping his cheeks, scanning his face for more bruises to patch up. when you were sure that you treated every single one, you let yourself relax, getting a soft chuckle from theodore. “you worried me, theo.”
he mumbled something under his breath, but you couldn’t pinpoint what it was, since he found his face nuzzling in your neck, leaving small kisses in the spots that he knew would make you shiver. he inhaled the sweet scent of your shampoo and perfume. oh, and did it drive him crazy.
he picked you up, your legs wrapped around his hips as he walked the two of you to his bed, merlin help how weak he felt, but carrying you around was something he did every single time you were at his dorm. theo put you down, letting you get comfortable in his sheets (he bought them, just because you said it looked pretty — so now he had floral themed sheets). on the other hand, he was searching for some clothes you always wear, so you wouldn’t suffer in a tight dress.
maybe he never directly said he loved you, but his actions and behaviour towards you was enough to tell you he did.
you’ve changed into clothes he gave you, allowing your… situationship to help you unzip your bra, and you fell down on his bed. it took you a brief moment to realise that you were still in your goddamn makeup. a long sigh escaped from between your lips. theo’s face lit up with confusion, although he understood why you were lazily getting up from his bed.
“you don’t have to go back.” he smirked, looking you up and down, admiring how gorgeous you looked in his shirt, pictures of him ripping it off you started playing in his head. god, the things he’d like to do to you right now. “i hated how you complained about your makeup stuff. bottom drawer is all yours. everything you need.”
and to be honest, you almost cried upon seeing what he prepared for you. any possible kinds of makeup remover (creams, lotions, gels), tissues, pads and tampons, cotton balls, all those products that he noticed you used for your hair and skin-care essentials, he even stocked your favourite shampoo that you told him wasn’t produced anymore. there were even the same exact products you used to put on your makeup, perfect matched foundation shade, all kinds of eyeshadow palettes you liked, lipsticks, chapsticks, lipglosses, even the glitter and gems you used for yule ball once.
“theodore faustus nott, you are so incredibly pussy whipped, i’m shocked it’s possible.” your laughs filled his chamber, when you got back from the bathroom. “at the same time, it’s so attractive that you bought all of that for me.”
“shut up, lestrange.” he rolled his eyes, his hand wrapping around your leg, pulling you onto him. “i would kill for you if you asked.” he mumbled against your skin, leaving a trail of kisses from your jawline down to collarbone.
can you do a james x reader where the girls forget your birthday but he comes around at night with cake and a present and ends up confessing his feelings and it’s just super cute 🥺 also I really love the fella series!!
Birthday Surprise (James Maguire X Reader)
Masterlist
Request Something!
Summary: You thought your seventeenth birthday was going to be special, but your friends act like it’s just another day. Luckily, there’s always an English lad who knows how to make you feel special.
F/C: Favorite Color
***
You had woken up that morning with delight. You were finally 17. Although nothing really changed besides your age, you still skipped down the stairs with a pep in your step. You couldn’t wait to spend the day with your friends and celebrate.
You all had planned to meet at Erin’s house and go to the chip shop. The ban on you lot was lifted a while after the whole stealing and drapes on fire incident. James wasn’t entirely thrilled to go, but after some begging from you and light bullying from Michelle, he agreed to come.
It seemed you were the last to show up at the Quinns’ house, as the rest of your friends were huddled in the living room. You wondered what they could’ve been talking about, but they all broke away after hearing you walk in.
“Hey, girls!” You enthusiastically hugged each of them, leaving James last. “Hi, James.” You noticed that James was the only one to return the affection with the same energy. Everyone else seemed confused by the action.
“What are you so happy about?” Michelle asked. You let go of James and turned around to face them.
“What do you mean? I thought we were celebrating today.” The girls laughed as you all exited the house.
“We’re going to the chippy, Y/n. Yeah, it’s great that Fionnula lifted the ban, but there’s nothing to get that excited about.”
“Let her be excited, Michelle.” Erin playfully hit the girl’s shoulder, glancing back at you. “She loves their chicken sandwiches. It’s like the only thing she gets there.”
As the group walked on, you started to slow down, trailing behind. James, looking back to see you a bit behind, slowed his pace so he could walk next to you.
“You okay?” He asked, trying not to draw attention from the others.
“Yeah.” You answered quickly. “Just looking forward to that chicken sandwich, you know?” He nodded but didn’t seem convinced by your answer. But you didn’t focus on that. You had bigger things to think about.
Your friends had forgotten your birthday.
***
It was safe to say that you were in a bit of a sour mood by the time you had made it to the shop. Everyone lined up to give their orders, you and James in the back of the line. When you became second in line, James leaned down to you.
“What would you like?”
“Huh?” You looked at him, confused.
“What did you want to get?” He asked as if it was simple. It was. You just weren’t expecting it. You two hadn’t really talked much since you made your way down the hill.
“Same as always, chicken sandwich with chips, heavy salt. Might get extra chips. I’m a bit hungrier than usual.” James nodded as Clare paid and walked toward the group. You and James walked up to the counter as Fionnula grabbed her notepad.
“What do you want?” She asked, somewhat aggressively. You went to speak, but James beat you to it.
“Chicken sandwich and extra chips with heavy salt, please, Fionnula.” James smiled as she wrote down the order.
“Anything else?”
“Nope.”
“Five pounds.” You reached into your pocket to pull out the money, but James had beaten you to the punch once again. He gave the money to Fionnula, who took it and walked towards the back with her notepad.
“Twenty minutes!” She yelled, and you and James went to the group.
“Here.” You held the money in your pocket out for James to take. Now it was his turn to be confused.
“What are you doing?” He asked.
“Paying you back.” You said as if it was obvious. Which it was. He laughed.
“Don’t be silly, Y/n. It’s my treat.”
“Why?” You asked. He couldn’t have remembered what today was; he didn’t say anything about it. So why else would he pay for you?
“Just felt like it.” He squeezed your shoulder with a smile.
“Oh. Well, thank you, James.” You put the money back in your pocket, returning the smile. Strange how such a small gesture could change your mood that swiftly.
“Trying to get in Y/n’s pants, James? Paying for her food isn’t gonna do that.” Michelle snickered.
And just like that, your mood was dampened again.
“Shut up, Michelle.” James rolled his eyes.
***
The day was over. You enjoyed your sandwich and chips, but that seemed to be the only thing you enjoyed. It felt like any other day with the girls and James.
And that was the problem. It’s not like you were expecting them to kiss the ground you walked on for the day; just a simple ‘Happy Birthday!’ would have sufficed. But instead, you got nothing but the same thing you got every day.
“How could they all forget my birthday?” You huffed, burying your face into your pillow. “I’d never do that to them.”
You were so busy throwing yourself a pity party that you didn’t hear the knock on your bedroom window. It was quick and timid. But the second time, it was much louder. You gasped in fright as you looked at the window.
“James?” You pushed yourself off the bed and opened the window. “What are you doing here?”
James stood in your yard in front of your window, giving you a shy smile. He was wearing joggers and a sweater, like he had suddenly decided to roll out of bed and visit.
“Can I come in?” He asked. You hesitantly nodded and moved away from the window so he could climb in. He seemed to struggle a bit, holding something behind his back.
“You’re lucky my house is one floor, Maguire.” You remarked, closing the window and sitting on your bed. You patted the spot next to you, and he sat down as well, hand still behind his back.
“Listen, I know it’s late. But I realized, when we were out, that I forgot to bring your gift. And I didn’t want to bring it up because the girls seemed to have forgotten, which you didn’t deserve, by the way, so I thought I’d bring your present now.” He finally showed what he was hiding. A small wrapped box, and on top of the box was a cupcake with a single candle in it. He grinned at you.
“Happy birthday, Y/n.”
You were speechless. You had thought that everyone had forgotten. But James had remembered.
James took out of lighter and lit the candle, handing the cupcake to you.
“I know you probably had cake or something already. But I saw it at that bakery you like, and I thought you’d like it.”
“I love it, James.”
“Make a wish.”
Let him stay longer, you wished. I don’t want him to leave. Not yet. You blew out the tiny flame, and he clapped while you took out the candle to break the cupcake in half. You gave half to James, which he accepted gratefully.
After you both finished the small dessert, James grabbed the small box.
“Open your present.”
“James, you didn’t have to get me anything.” You took it anyways.
“Yeah, but I wanted to. So open it.” He urged. You unwrapped the paper and opened the box. Inside was a beautiful necklace with your initial and a small F/C gem.
“James-”
“I saw you looking at it a lot when we all went out the other day. So when you girls went to find a place to eat, I went back to that shop and got it.”
“Thank you so much, James.” As you tried to clip the necklace on, all you could do was wonder how you got so lucky to get James as a friend.
“Here, let me help.” He reached around and took the ends of the necklace from you. He had gotten closer to you while clasping the chain, but you didn’t say anything until he moved away.
“It’s so beautiful, James.” You whispered as you fiddled with the initial. “God, You’re so sweet. I could kiss you right now.”
“You can if you want.” He said quickly. You looked up, shocked at the response, and he seemed to have the same expression. But he didn’t take it back.
“Really?” You asked quietly. He just nodded, allowing you to make the next move.
What the hell, you thought, you only live once.
You brought a hand to his cheek and started to lean in. James threaded a hand through your hair at the back of your head and closed the gap. Although you’d only kissed a few people in your life, mainly from truth or dare or spin the bottle, this was by far the best kiss you’ve had. And you hoped to whoever was out there that it wouldn’t be the last you’d get from James Maguire.
“That’s one way to make a birthday memorable.” You whispered as you pulled apart. You both smiled fondly at each other.
“I really like you, Y/n,” James said. “In case it wasn’t obvious.” You laughed, giving him a small peck on the lips.
“I really like you too, James. A lot.”
A few minutes passed, and the two of you were now lying on your bed, both on your sides facing each other.
“Wanna stay the night?” You asked. “My parents are leaving early for a business trip, so they won’t notice.”
“I’d love to.” The smile on your face was very noticeable, even after turning off the lights.
“This is definitely my best birthday.” You said as you laid your head on James’ chest. He brought an arm around you and skimmed his fingers over you.
“I’m glad I could help.” James kissed the top of your head, and you both slowly drifted off into sleep.
In the morning, you would get frantic calls from the girls who had realized that they had forgotten your birthday. And Michelle would ask you if you knew where her cousin was. But for now, being with James was all that you cared about.
baby, won't you be my girl?
author’s note: theodore nott, the man that you are. this saucy fic was inspired by this song. please enjoy my favorite flirty yummy slytherin boy 🐍
Theodore Nott was not the jealous type.
Jealousy required emotions, which Theo found so terribly unrefined. He was a Slytherin, for Salazar’s sake. Not some hotheaded Gryffindor incapable of keeping his anger in check. But as he glared daggers at the back of some pathetic little beater who was currently flirting with you across the common room, Theo couldn’t help but feel downright murderous.
The worst part was that he could’ve prevented all of this. If he had just manned the fuck up, Theo would’ve been the one pressed close against you, whispering his signature suggestive comments in your ear and making you smile.
But Theo—absolute tosser that he was—didn’t realize his blunder until it was too late.
Earlier that week, the two of you had been studying in his room. Well, you were studying. Theo, on the other hand, was smoking enough pot to sedate a hippogriff. He inhaled deeply, watching with a slight smirk on his face as you frowned into your Charms textbook. You were laying on your stomach at the edge of his bed with notes strewn all around you. The combination of your slightly unbuttoned white blouse, dangerously short black pleated skirt, and green and silver high knee socks affected him more than the drugs he was currently inhaling.
There was something incredibly sexy about a beautiful woman laying in his bed and completely ignoring him in favor of a dusty old tome. Or maybe it was just you. To be fair, Theo found everything about you quite sexy. Even your infamous lectures regarding his drug habits, which you were due to give him in three…two…one….
You huffed indignantly, the action ruffling the feathers on your quill. “I will never understand why you voluntarily choose to put that rubbish into your body.”
Theo shrugged, blowing a puff of smoke towards the ceiling. “It’s relaxing.”
“What could you possibly be stressed about, Teddy?”
He smiled at the nickname. If anyone else called him that, Theo would’ve hexed the life out of them, but he liked the way it sounded when you said it. Especially when you were a little bit annoyed at him.
“I’ve got a lot on my shoulders, love.” He took another drag and sighed dramatically. “Being rich and handsome is incredibly tiring work.”
You snorted. “You’re an absolute twat, you know that?”
Theo held the blunt between his slender fingers and plopped down next to you. “A rich and handsome twat.”
“A rich, handsome, and dead twat if you don’t get that blunt away from my textbook.” Theo smiled sheepishly before putting out the cigarette on the ashtray by his bedside table. You rolled your eyes and tapped the end of your quill against his chest. “You should really quit. That shit’s terrible for your lungs.”
Theo turned, cocking his head at you. His sage green eyes bored into yours as a smirk curved against his lips. “What will you give me if I do?”
“Theodore Aurelius Nott,” you chided. Despite the blush creeping into your cheeks, you managed to keep your voice steady as you glared at the perfectly coiffed prick. “Do not make me stab you with my quill.”
He grinned. There was nothing he enjoyed more than making you flustered. “Fine, what are you studying so hard for anyways?”
“We have a Charms exam on Friday and you know how brutal Flitwick is.”
“Scheduling an exam on the same day as a Quidditch game should be a crime punishable by wizarding law.” Theo complained with a groan. “A game against Gryffindor, no less.”
“Not everything revolves around Quidditch, Theo.”
“Try telling that to Malfoy,” he said with a sigh. “The bloody git’s been running the whole team ragged. For the past three weeks, Draco’s been forcing all of us to wake up before sunrise. I’m losing my precious beauty sleep, Y/N.”
You pouted, pinching his cheeks. “Poor Teddy bear. How will you ever recover?”
"Smartass," Theo said with a smirk.
"Top of the class, baby." You rolled over and winked at him. "I really am that witch."
"I think I'm rubbing off on you, love."
"In your dreams, Nott."
He chuckled. "Oh, I'm definitely rubbing off on you." Theo snatched the quill out of your hands. "Enough studying. I'd rather talk about how I'm going to crush those Gryffindor brutes, which I can only do with you cheering me on from the stands."
You took the quill back, tapping its feathery edge against Theo's nose. “You know that watching all that flying makes me nauseous. Plus, I can’t even enjoy myself because I’m too worried about you taking a bludger to the head.”
“I promise not to let anything ruin my pretty face. I know how much you enjoy the view, after all,” Theo said with a wink. “If you promise to come.”
“I don’t know, Teddy…”
He pouted, giving you his best puppy dog eyes. “Please, Y/N. I need my good luck charm. Plus, you look cute in my jersey.”
“My eyes are closed half of the time from sheer terror,” you pointed out. Theo watched as you fiddled with the end of your quill. “Besides, wouldn’t it be weird to wear your jersey and cheer you on?”
Theo’s brows furrowed. “Why would it be weird?”
“Because,” you said matter-of-factly. “Those are things a girlfriend would normally do.”
“Well, yes, traditionally. But you’re my best friend,” Theo explained. “It’s not like that between us.”
The minute the words came out of his mouth, Theo knew it was the wrong thing to say. You stiffened beside him, your body language turning as tense as a bowstring.
“Right,” you said in a tight tone. “It’s definitely not like that between us.”
“No, that’s not what I meant. I just—I mean you’re not like the other guy’s girlfriends. We’ve known each other for ages. We just don’t see each other that way.”
Theodore Nott, idiot extraordinaire. If looks could kill, he’d be at the bottom of the Black Lake waiting to become a delicious feast for the merpeople.
“Of course not,” you said with humorless laughter. “We’re just friends. It would be mental for anyone to think that we’d ever be in a relationship, right?”
There was a challenge behind those words. Despite the fact that his dorm was deep within the dungeons, Theo could hear a slight ringing in his ears, like the howl of the wind as he raced past on his Nimbus, heart beating against his chest as he prepared to hurl the quaffle with all his might. Only now his target wasn’t a goal hoop.
It was you. His best friend. The girl he had been head over heels in love with since the moment you pushed Adrian Pucey into a bush at Malfoy Manor for making fun of five year old Theo’s lisp.
He should say something, anything, but for once in his life, Theodore Nott had no witty comeback in his arsenal. Stupid, pathetic coward that he was, all he could manage was a nod.
“Right,” he licked his lips nervously. “Just friends.”
The disappointment in your eyes felt like a punch to the gut. Worse than when he’d broken his arm in third year. Worse than when Mattheo dragged him into a brawl with those brawny Durmstrang guys in fourth year. He would have gladly taken another meaty Bulgarian fist to the face rather than face you right now.
Theo watched helplessly as you rolled off the bed and stuffed your studying materials into your leather satchel. “Wait, Y/N. Are you leaving? I thought you wanted to study?”
You slipped your shoes on, averting his gaze. “I do, which is why I’m gonna head to the library. I’m more focused there, anyways.”
Theo was still utterly confused as he scrambled after you. “Let me at least walk you to—”
“That’s really not necessary,” you said, cutting him off. “I’ll see you later, Theo.”
Theo, did not, in fact, see you later.
If avoiding him was a sport, you would’ve won the bloody Triwizard cup. The fact that you memorized his schedule for him since he couldn’t be trusted to actually remember to show up to class probably helped. Theo didn’t realize how accustomed he had grown to having you around until you weren’t there.
When Enzo obliviously rebuffed a Hufflepuff’s attempt to flirt with him at breakfast, Theo turned to your usual spot beside him to nudge you only to find the space empty. When Potter & Co. prattled on about whatever martyr cause they’d picked up that week, Theo found himself searching for you across the Potions classroom to share an eyeroll, but caught a glimpse of your retrieving back instead. The last straw had been when Elizabeth Burke’s portrait refused to let him into his own dorms because Theo couldn’t remember the passcode. He never had to since you always came in together.
In other words, Theo was absolutely fucking miserable. Even the team’s win against Gryffindor failed to lift his spirits. He knew that it had only been a week, but he missed you so fucking much that it actually hurt.
The sight of you walking into the common room filled him with instant relief. For about half a second. Until he saw that you weren’t alone.
Then, Theo had reverted back to his sulky self, choosing a shady spot amidst the raging party to drown his sorrows with a bottle of firewhisky. He had gone through at least half of the Ogden’s while chain smoking like a Hungarian Horntail.
“Oi, what’s got your wand in a twist?” Mattheo asked while snatching the cigarette out of Theo’s mouth. He took a deep inhale and blew a puff of smoke directly into Theo’s face. “Aren’t you supposed to be celebrating our victory? Why’d you look like someone pissed in your soup?”
“Fuck off, Riddle,” Theo muttered in response as he took back his cigarette. The smoke made the room hazy, but not enough to block you from view.
The beater—the fucking twat—leaned in to whisper into your ear. Whatever he said made you burst into laughter, which once again filled Theo with pure, unadulterated rage.
“Someone’s in a mood,” Enzo remarked, plopping down on the sofa beside Theo. A circle of third years hovered at the edge of their group, but as usual, Berkshire remained utterly oblivious to their presence. Bloody hell, he was even worse than Theo.
“I bet ten galleons that Nott bashes Murdock’s head in before the end of the night,” Draco said.
“Murdock, is it?” Theo grunted. “What do we know about the prick?”
Blaise rolled his eyes. “Absolutely nothing. He’s not even worth gossiping about,” he announced dismissively while sipping his drink. Imported French wine, probably. Zabini would never partake in something as common as beer.
Mattheo’s lips curled in amusement. “Besides the fact that he’s making a move on Theo’s girl.”
“She’s not my girl,” Theo said defensively.
“Really?” Malfoy drawled, raising a pale blonde brow. “So you wouldn’t mind if I asked Y/N to dance?”
“Don’t even fucking think about, Malfoy.”
The Slytherin boys laughed. For them, the week had been amusing as all hell. They had never seen Theo this wound up before. A few days without Y/N and their usual sassy, sarcastic mate had turned into a complete basket case.
Pansy sighed. “For Salazar’s sake, Theo. Either man the fuck up or stand down. Y/N deserves to have a good night, too. Who she has it with is entirely up to you.”
Pansy Parkinson was a pain in the arse, but she was also right.
With that, Theo put his cigarette out on the ashtray and stood from his place on the sofa. It only took three strides for Theo to get to you. Four for you to startle as he casually put his arm around your shoulders.
“There you are,” he whispered into your ear. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
You froze in place as Theo pulled you close. The scent of expensive cologne and cigarette smoke enveloped you, drawing you in like a moth to a flame.
Under normal circumstances, you would’ve flown straight into the fire that was Theodore Nott, but tonight you were in no mood to get burned. You’ve already endured enough pain and humiliation from your last conversation.
Just friends kept replaying over and over in your head like a broken record. You felt like an absolute pillock. For years, it felt like the two of you had been teetering towards…something. All that shameless flirting, the lingering touches, the late night conversations. You had been stupid enough to believe in the possibility that Theo felt for you what you felt for him.
But maybe it was all in your imagination.
“Theo,” you said, slinking out of his reach. Hurt flashed in his eyes as you faced him. “Congrats on the win. Christoph said it was a good game.”
“It would’ve been better if you were in the stands,” Theo said softly.
“I was busy.”
“Yeah, I can see that,” he eyed Christoph with disdain. “Listen, can we go somewhere and talk? I haven’t seen you all week.”
You crossed your arms. “We just got here.”
Theo was not well pleased by your use of ‘we’ as if you and Murdock were suddenly now a thing. He barely spared the sodding prick a glance. You couldn’t actually be attracted to this prat, could you? He was all wrong for you. Murdock had a stocky beater build and short blonde cropped hair. You hated beefy guys and you were definitely not a fan of blondes. Case in point: Draco.
No, you liked tall sarcastic brunettes with messy hair and a slight nicotine addiction.
You liked him.
So Theo stayed put, meeting your gaze with equal intensity. There was no way in hell he was backing down.
For good measure, he pouted slightly and fixed his eyes on you. “Please, Y/N.”
He saw the exact moment when your resolve broke. Your expression softened and your shoulders relaxed, slumping in defeat. You sighed before turning over to Murdock. “Do you mind giving us a moment?”
Christoph nodded. “I’ll fetch us some more drinks.”
Theo watched him walk away, or rather, he glared at his back until Murdock was out of sight.
“Really, Y/N?” Theo asked incredulously. “You're slumming it with that benchwarmer?”
You wheeled towards him, eyes blazing with fire. Oh, he was truly in for it now. “First of all, I’m not ‘slumming it’ with anyone and even if I were, it’s none of your bloody business. Second of all, Christoph is actually a really nice guy.”
Theo scoffed. “Yeah, because you’re suddenly into really nice guys now.”
“Well maybe I got tired of hanging around pricks.”
Ouch. That one definitely hurt. Even if it was well deserved.
“Is that why you’ve been avoiding me all week?” Theo asked, stepping closer. “You’ve been busy with Murdock?”
Merlin’s beard, Theo was ridiculously tall. He towered a good foot over you, cornering you against the wall. His eyes were stormy and dark like a predator watching its prey.
“Careful, Theo,” you warned, meeting his gaze. “You almost sound jealous.”
The tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife. Neither one of you were backing down from this little standoff. Theo braced himself against the wall, his face inches away from yours.
“What if I am?” He challenged, his eyes dipping to your mouth. “What if I told you that it’s taking every ounce of self control I have not to rip Murdock to shreds?”
A shiver skittered down your spine. Theo wasn’t a violent person. Sure, he’d been in a fight or two, but that was mostly Mattheo’s doing. Your best friend wasn’t the aggressive type, so to hear him threaten Christoph took you by surprise.
“You have no reason to be jealous, Theo.” You countered. “After all, we’re just friends.”
“No, we’re not,” he said. “We’ve never been just friends, Y/N.”
“Then why did you—”
“Because I’m an idiot and a coward,” Theo said with a sigh. “Because I had a beautiful girl in my bed and I had no idea how to tell her that I’ve been in love with her since I was five.”
All the anger and hurt you’ve been carrying around for the past week instantly dissolved. A little smile tugged at the corner of your mouth. “You’re in love with me?”
“I thought that much was obvious, love.”
“Hmm,” you hummed in response. “Theodore Nott, infamous playboy and shameless flirt, is in love with me. What an interesting development.”
Theo groaned. “Now is not the time to be a smartass, Y/N.”
“I think it’s the perfect time—”
You didn’t get the chance to finish your sentence. Suddenly, Theo’s lips were on yours. He tasted like peppermint and whiskey, and he kissed you like his life depended on it. You sighed into his mouth, melting against his touch as he cupped the side of your cheek. This was definitely not a just friends kiss. It was a butterfly inducing, head in the clouds, sweep you off your feet kind of kiss.
Theo's hands snaked around your waist as your fingers found purchase in his shaggy brown hair. He pulled you flush against him like he couldn't get enough. Merlin's pants, Theo really knew how to kiss. His lips were soft against yours, but there was a roughness in his actions that told you that his restraint was hanging on by a thread.
Like he'd been waiting for this for far too long.
You knew the feeling all too well.
"Darling, if you keep kissing me like that then this party will receive a show they didn't ask for."
You stuck your tongue out at him. "You started it."
"Shall I end it too, love?"
"You're an absolute twat, Theodore Nott." You rolled your eyes, kissing the tip of his nose affectionately. “A rich, handsome twat that I'm in love with."
Somewhere across the room, the hoots and hollers of your friends ignited a deafening cheer. Mattheo and Enzo clapped Theo on the back. Blaise raised his glass in approval. Draco smirked and exchanged galleons with Pansy. You didn’t even want to know what that was about.
“Fucking finally,” Mattheo remarked. “Notty boy here has been impossible to deal with this entire week. I never noticed how much of a wanker he can be when you aren’t there to balance him out, Y/N.”
You chuckled. “It couldn’t have been that bad.”
Enzo grimaced. “You weren’t on the receiving end of his quaffles,” he said, eyeing Theo. “He nearly took my head off.”
That only made you laugh more. “Teddy bear wouldn’t hurt a fly.”
“No, it’s true. Nott went absolutely mental.” Draco confirmed, draping an arm around your shoulder. “I’ve never seen him play like that. He wiped the floor with those pathetic Gryffindors. You should ignore him more often, Y/N."
Pansy wrinkled her nose. “Please don’t. Looking at his miserable face put me off my meals for an entire week. I couldn’t even bear to eat any of my special Belgian chocolates. I missed out on Belgian chocolates, Y/N!”
“You lot are overexaggerating,” Theo said, pulling you in by the waist. “I wasn’t that bad.”
“Please, you were an absolute mess without Y/N,” Blaise added.
“More like an absolute wanker,” Mattheo supplied.
“An absolute supreme mega wanker,” Draco agreed. “Even by my standards.”
“It was pretty brutal,” said Enzo.
Theo glared at all of them before taking your hand. “Let’s go, Y/N. I’d rather not stand around and get insulted all night.”
“Sure thing. But I should probably tell Christoph that I’m…indisposed.”
Mattheo grinned mischievously. “Oh, I wouldn’t worry about Murdock.”
You narrowed your eyes at him. “What did you do, Riddle?”
“I didn’t do anything,” he said innocently. “The boys and I just let him know that he should set his sights elsewhere.”
“We also might have implied that we’d turn him into a horned bullfrog if he ever hit on you again,” Enzo said with a smile.
“The audacity he even had approaching you is frankly insulting,” Malfoy remarked. “Everyone knows you’re off limits.” He smirked. “Unfortunately.”
Theo fell right into Draco’s bait. “Don’t hit on my girl, Malfoy.”
Blaise raised an amused brow. “Oh, she’s your girl now, is she?
“Of course she is,” Theo said. He linked his fingers with yours and flashed those pretty eyes at you. The perfect mixture of blue and green, just like the ocean during a storm. “If she’ll have me.”
You smiled, wide and bright. “Come on, Teddy. Your girl wants to dance.”
