I was driving home today on the highway, and was in the right lane approaching my exit, when a large, lifted, tricked out pickup truck comes barreling up behind me. Now, I was already going slightly ;-) over the speed limit, but apparently this wasn’t fast enough for our overcompensating friend, who proceeded to ride about 2 ft. off my bumper as we took the exit.
When I reached the top of the exit ramp, the stoplight had just turned red. So, wanting to turn right, I made a full stop, checked if the road was clear, and then began to make a legal turn on red. But, apparently our friend saw something from that high perch that I didn’t, because he proceeded to lay on his horn just as I was starting my turn.
Well, obviously, he’s warning me about something. So, I stop again, and decide, through an overabundance of caution, that perhaps it is just too dangerous to make a right turn on red at this intersection. So, we just sit there, for the remaining 3 minutes or so of the light’s cycle. Mr. Overcompensating’s windshield was so darkly tinted that I couldn’t make out his body language or facial expressions, but I’m sure he was glad I was safe. Also, I assume he was having some sort of mechanical trouble because he kept revving the engine and inching forward the whole time.
Once the light turned green, I turned and hit the gas to make the next light at the bottom of the hill - knowing that they are very poorly timed. However, due to his apparent mechanical issues, he missed it. And so he sat, getting ever so small in my rear-view mirror as I continued on my journey home.
Poor guy, I hope his truck is alright.
