May finds Bo Juyi / Bai Juyi far more more of a culturally relevant queer figure than the famous western ones tbh. Like his works actually get translated and taught in Johtonian schools for his influence on classical literature. Oscar Wilde barely gets a mention in the world history textbook.
Honestly how May views pride is more akin to how non catholics view all saints day or some swedish festival across the world. It's fun to watch other people have fun but if you don't celebrate it, do you even remember when it's going on?
There's other Hoennian festivals going on at the same time that she does keep track of in but like... She ain't from the anglophone world. She started learning english at the age of 14. And if you'll ask May, she is far more familiar with chinese queer history than she ever will be with anything we'd recognize as western—this is someone who read Huang Jiulang is its original language at 12 and personally translated Bo Juyi's love letters while in the hospital.
( Johto is mildly homophobic to some degree but so much of that is cultural imperialism imported from other "civilized" parts of the world. But she will still sneer at any white person who looks down on it for that. Yes, sure the righteous Unovans get to introduce their disgusting views to her birthplace and then turn around to wave a rainbow flag at them. Now who made it that way? The 'civilized' people who tried to impose the same bullshit on Hoenn? )
Idk to some extent theres smth very anglocentric about the idea of international pride month being universal. Like the majority of the world ain't american, never has been american and would never want to be americans.
And yeah our western idea of pride month is fun but it's also not Hoennian. All that history and culture is something May will never feel much of a connection to. Your civil rights heroes will never really be her's and visa versa. Her people's relationship with queerness is very much tied to their history of both enacting colonialism and being on the recieving end of colonialism. It's something our idea of pride can never encompass.
May doesn't acknowledge pride month because she already spent a week getting wasted at a Hoennian festival. She's had her fun playing matchmaker with the girls and pretending she doesn't see them stealing her flowers.
And to go from that to a month of rainbow capitalism two months later? Even the wildest pride parade just looks quaint to her. Where's the fierce Dionysian spirit? The sense of being anchored in the cycles of the land and you and your partner's place in it? The idea that you might meet someone strange and wild and unearthly at the parade and be destroyed for touching the divine? Something unmoored from that kind of unique cultural specificity will always feel spiritually empty to her.
Hoennians celebrate their equivalent of pride in early April aka right before the start of the wet season. The big rainbow parade in June is mostly for tourists. It's believed by some that all the new couples... coupling together is what amuses Kyogre enough to bring the vitalizing rains.
And according to the folklore, every so often during April someone would bring home a young man or woman only to find something... else lurking in their abode. You must not acknowledge the feeling of coarse skin and flippers or the strange shark-like eyes. You must offer it only the finest foods and liqours you own. And most importantly, you must never speak a word of insult or you shall be devoured alive because Kyogre's children are as vicious as their mistress. They shall leave in the morning while you sleep.
May thinks the people telling those stories are just coping over being embarassed by their lover. She has never seen such creatures personally and Kyogre doesn't recall ever siring them so surely it's just people sharing tall tales. Awkward hookups are a dime a dozen in Rustboro.

First he refuses to speak to Steven and then he starts threatening her and waving his blackmail material around... Heavy handed doesn't even begin to describe his negotiation strategy. Yet she too had a few cards close to her chest—and another excuse to give Mr. Stone's throat a metaphorical squeeze.
"Did you know Devon still had three hundred or so debt slaves there? And it was perfectly legal under the old laws too. The day Old Man Stone dies, I'm handing his soul to that Spiritomb runnin' Sea Mauville."
The spirits can do as they please with him as far as she cares. She knows better than anyone that nothing done to him in this lifetime could ever be recompense for the harm he's commited. Not at his age.

Process: I am very staunchly anti-AI, I don't use AI in any of my work. I use color palettes submitted to me by my commissioners because I am colorblind. I collaborate with commissioners and process black and white sketches until reaching a final design and rendering it. Below is an example of my process for a portrait commissioned by the lovely Elunoir <3.
Timeline: Because I've been struggling with chronic fatigue, and don't know the extent of my workload, my timeline of getting rendered portraits done will likely be 1-2 months, worst case scenario, and depending on complexity. Sketches will usually be done within a week, and Expression Sheets will be a month. I'll be communicating if anything changes. I also work nights in the EDT timezone, so my communications may come at odd hours, thank you for your patience.

dehumanization as horror is great and all but what about humanization as horror. Being forced into a role that was not made for you. Being forced to fulfill expectations that you can never achieve. Being made to exist in a society that so cruelly expects you to act in a way that is against your nature.
As fucked up as May is? Norman did a decent job with this hellion all thing considered. She's had previous incarnations who were completely amoral. Like the kind of person who would sack a city, salt the earth and enslave the survivors if ordered to by her lord.
Even at 5 years old May's parents could tell that there's something... off about this kid. Because she took everything harder than she should. When she was happy, she'd run through the city with a dozen Rattatas following at her heels, throwing snacks and trinkets to anyone who passes by. When she was sad, she'd be despondent for days.
And when angry? Oh boy her wrath was all consuming. This kid had no compunctions against violence. Her idea of retribution had no limit or time limit save for some arbitrary sense of fairness. All that empathy and guilt, that instinctual fear of being punched back, that desperate need to belong among peers, everything that would normally keep someone from breaking a classmate's nose just weren't there. And will never be there.
Norman knew that she's likely to kill someone if left to her own devices so he drilled a sense of duty into a young child. It was her duty to leash her wrath until she could take it out on a punching bag because the alternative was hurting people who do matter to her, people who don't deserve it. Because May did understand that on an intellectual level even if she'd personally feel no guilt for harming others.
He failed to stop her from becoming a murderer but that's less on him and more on their circumstances.

It's a simple fact of life whether you lived near Nimbasa or Olivine. Everywhere humans gathered in large enough numbers, they lit up the night in neon and blazing white, trading the night sky for stars of their own. ( Everywhere save for one of course, though the less said about the sullen king of that sunless region the better. ) She could see the appeal at times, but nothing beats being able to look up and see billions of history writen right there before you. And somewhere out there, there are others looking back at them from across an incomprehensibly vast cosmos. It's a humbling thought.
To her left, her brother Sceptile croaks, raising a clawed finger to point at a certain ladle shaped set of stars.
"The Big Dipper, eh? I remember reading an old story about them a few days ago. Remember the book with a red Gyarados on it, Tris? Yeah, that one. I think it's still in the base somewhere."
Tbh May considers the idea of someone like Ghetsis or Cyrus more dangerous than the people themselves. She can splatter the actual people across the wall with enough effort... under the right circumstances. It's dismantling everything they leave behind that takes decades—decades she doesn't have. Because all those offshoot groups full of disaffected people, all those networks of power and resources? Those are going right into the hands of anyone charismatic enough to say the right words.
How poorly would May react to corrupted gods from other universes invading and attempting to conquer?
A scenario she already games out and plans for. She refuses to be constrained by morality once the threat level reaches apocalyptic and neither does her "patron". We're talking about war crimes here. The land is 100% willing to back whatever horrific schemes she has in mind whether its a calculated cull, a purposed plague or "attack of the ents".

"Good, you saw nothing," May says, glacing away from her wall of screens. She eyes the Klinklang at the corner of her vision warily—this one has proven itself preceptive in a way few of its kind ever manage. No doubt it has a Zap Cannon prepared for her should it find her words to its king to be a cause for... concern. "Unless you plan on letting the whole world know exactly how you've been snooping on our Space Center's private comms."
They know better of course—though the shape they'd watched the past few days remained strange and indistinct, even she could read a degree of intelligence in its strange behavior. It'd been too methodical in its movements to be space debris, in the way it's seemed to flit between gas giants and back again following some pattern neither of them could fathom.
"This ain't the first time something like this's happened—Mossdeep'll put out a statement, interview a few scientists and that'll be that."
And to their bafflement they'd watched as it simply... scattered into the background cosmic radiation in a burst of bioenergy. Perhaps it'd realized it was being watched. Perhaps it'd located whatever it was looking for and found the locals to be beneath their concern ( if it was aware of them at all ). As much as such terms could be applied to something so alien, May supposes. Numerous possibilities had run through her mind at the time, each raising more questions than the last, each equally unknowable.
"How many'll believe you if you start talkin' about aliens anyways? A few conspiracy boards on the internet? A couple of Colress's old groupies? 's far as the public knows... those anomalies're just a couple broken satalites—nothing they ought to be worrying about or so the story goes."
It's easier to focus on what she is certain of. The contingency plans can come later when she's had a few weeks to mull it over wih Twigs.
