HORROR AU
Death Note doesn't kill a person directly, but binds a ghost to them. Anyone whose name is written suffers from stalking, possession, hallucinations, or other forms of interference. Killing can be done with a normal ability, but the condition in which the person dies of heat attack requires a ghost of such power to visit them that the victim dies of fear.
Light sees all the ghosts he summons with the Death Note. This is the reason he rarely uses the heart attack. He commits his first murder as in canon, but his subsequent crimes differ. For example, Raye Penber suffers from a ghost's presence for a long time, pushing his death date forward by several weeks. The same thing happens with Naomi Misora.
RULES.
1. Shinigami are much safer and friendlier than ghosts.
2. Ghosts are visible only to the Death Note owner and the person whose name has already been written.
3. The Death Note owner cannot choose which ghost will appear. Using the spirits' names will also have no effect.
4. There are many types of ghosts, but it is convenient to divide them into three groups.
The first
are the weak. They can torment the victim for years, but do not attack directly. The victim will never see their face, but will hear voices and notice strange shapes out of the corner of their eye. This group most closely resembles humans, differing only in their pre-death wounds. The victim either goes mad from the persecution, completely losing their ability to function, or commits suicide out of despair.
The second
group are the intermediate. They torment the victim for a week to six months. Death is guaranteed. Their appearance is still human-like, but their bodies are deformed. They have long arms or necks, and are missing limbs. The victim may commit suicide voluntarily or become possessed by a ghost. In both cases, death is more brutal.
They take over the victim's mind and make them believe they are in another place. They have a stronger influence on the mind and are capable of psychological tricks.
The third
group â the strong. Their appearance is completely unlike human. They most often cause death by heart attack. Unlike the middle group, they lack even a semblance of reason. Their victims die within five minutes at most. They can cause a person to disappear without a trace.
You'd better not visit this account if you're afraid of topics typical of the horror genre. Of course, I'll censor everything moderately, but be careful.
Let's run through the questions:
1. Is L leading the investigation in this AU? Yes, he identifies Light and also recruits him to join the Kira investigation team. Despite the genre, the detective element is still the main focus of this story. Kira is also very difficult to catch.
2. Do people worship Kira?
Yes, but because criminals often go insane or are found in terrible conditions, people fear Kira more than they respect him.
The government is more willing to cooperate with Kira out of the same fear.
3. What about Light's condition?
He's generally fine, but he saw some terrible things when he experimented with the Death Note's powers.
4. What's wrong with Ryuk?
Ryuk is okay; he's still the same funny guy.
__
I don't have an L, so you can join in if you want. The most interesting dynamic here would probably be the period after his death. Ryuzaki as an absolutely terrifying specter capable of influencing Light's mind...that sounds thrilling.
Or vice versa. L is alive, but Light is acting too strange to be comfortable with him.
