Gaited horse people, my TWH will not canter/lope. She will gallop. She will speed walk like a Karen at the mall getting her steps in. But no rocking, three beat, canter like you see in dressage rings. In this video you see me using my body to try and urge her into the stride (so ignore my bounciness, it’s on purpose). And alas, I’m left confudled. I’m scared to work her in a smaller enclosure since so goes so hecking fast, I’m afraid she’s going to wipeout on the turns. Help?🥺
This seems like a balance problem, your horse is not properly using her back at all, which is quite common in gaited horses. It might be close to impossible for her to canter as she is now with her current muscling, or lack there of. Can she trot? Trotting and canter need loose and build up back muscles to properly execute. Your horse goes like a banana with the points to the sky, which makes it impossible to use the right muscles. Try to get her to walk/work long and round, not rollkur at all, just lower and stretching her neck and try to get that butt working properly. It will take a lot of time though. Good luck!
