This special lady is Cara. She is a feisty little bird who has an insatiable appetite for life. She is an #exxbatteryhen who in this photo you see her recovering from surgery at the Bird Vet Melbourne, to fix her two broken legs, broken wing, and prolapsed cloaca. . Cara is suspected to have been injured during transport, from being crushed under the combined weight of the other hens and their transport crates that were stacked on top of her. Cara was rescued from an abattoir (slaughter house) just hours before she was scheduled to be slaughtered. She was one of the 60 chickens rescued by @dreamershenrescue and of them, roughly 7 had broken bones and other injuries. . UPDATE: Today (3/13/17), Cara finally gets to feel what it is like to be loved and cared for. She was spoiled at the vet so now she has a real hankering for fresh fruit over grains, which is hilarious to her loving humans her rescued her, but they figure that she can have whatever she likes. She still cannot stand on her own but she’s only 2 weeks post surgery, so it’s not a concern as of yet.
