Darlene Jackson aka Lady D is a pillar of Chicago’s music community. She's been a constant player at every relevant dance club in the city. She has played extensively throughout North America (Canada, US & Mexico) and globally in Russia, Asia, and parts of Europe. She's appeared at numerous festivals including Lollapalooza’s 20th Anniversary on Perry’s stage, Wanderlust’s Yoga in the City, Noise Pop, Westfest, Summerdance, Summerfest (Milwaukee) and Chicago’s own Cultural Music Series in Millennium Park because she is a performer of the highest caliber. Lady D knows how to move the masses and has enough presence to rock a big stage, a large club or an intimate lounge.
Best known for her skills with impeccable selection and programming, Lady D expertly mixes house, techno and the open format genres. She can play anything, from Jazz to Motown to Electronic Dance Music. Her encyclopedic knowledge of music gives her the versatility to play any variety of social events. She has headlined the enormous “Be Bad, Do Good” Halloween event for four years and running. She played celebrity events at Rockit Bar for Black Eyed Peas, Billy Corgan, Henry Rollins and more. She is a staple at the city’s best dance clubs such as Smart Bar and Dolphin. She’s also created numerous lounge and underground residencies in popular hangs like Schuba’s, Tumans and Jerry’s to name a few. Currently Lady D is a resident DJ for Chicago’s hot new venue, Untitled, where she plays for crowds of all ages and keeps the dance floor packed.
A media darling, Lady D has enjoyed covers and features in Billboard, Spin, Chicago Magazine, Chicago Tribune, International DJ, Urb, XLR8R, Mixer, Venus, DMA, UR, New City and many more. The subject of radio broadcasts stateside (NPR) (WBEZ) and overseas (Galaxy Radio UK) and documentaries such as: Midnite Madness, Girl The Movie, Slipcue, Godfather of Disco, Maestro and more, Lady D has also appeared on television for WGN, CLTV, Metro TV (NYC), NBC (Chicago & Raleigh, NC). She has produced, co-produced, remixed and written and vocalized a number of tunes and mixed compilations on a variety of labels. Lady D also loves to give back and continues to work intimately with the Chicago Chapter of N.A.R.A.S (the Grammys) as a voting member and especially in their advocacy for continued governmental support of arts programs in schools. In addition, she has coordinated the DJ curriculum for the Girls Rock Chicago! Organization for the last five years on a voluntary basis.
