𓆩⟡𓆪 From a glance, Hiei doesn’t look concerned about your whereabouts. Even though you’re in dangerous territory, he wouldn’t force you to stay by his side. There are moments when you’re not even in the same room together, and that’s okay. With the help of his Jagan Eye, he simply watches over you, just as he does with Yukina.

𓆩⟡𓆪 You can roam around and do as you please without him hovering. If trouble comes your way, he will reach you in no time. Everything will be totally fine! As long as you don’t befriend another demon that is…

𓆩⟡𓆪 When Hiei notices you chatting with a stranger, he automatically intervenes, no questions asked. He swiftly stands in front of you and aims his murderous gaze directly at the unknown demon. “What business do you have with us?” “I suggest you leave before I make you leave.” You’ll need to clear things up quickly or else the situation will escalate.

𓆩⟡𓆪 After you explain the relationship is purely platonic, Hiei doesn’t feel any better than before. He tries to be understanding for your sake, but the sight of you smiling at another demon is too discomforting. He doesn’t like it at all.

𓆩⟡𓆪 Hiei tries to imagine things from a different perspective. When he met you for the first time, you weren’t bothered by his identity or criminal background. It’s no surprise that you would share that same courtesy with other demons.

𓆩⟡𓆪 He decides not to start anything (for now). Hiei would prefer to keep his relationship with you a secret. This is the Dark Tournament. If he let it slip that you’re his significant other, you’d be more vulnerable than before.

𓆩⟡𓆪 The issue is only partially resolved. Due to the current circumstances, Hiei is simply tolerating your friend’s presence. He couldn’t pretend to like them even if he tried. He keeps his distance while you two catch up (though it’s difficult to have a conversation when his death glare can be felt from across the room).

𓆩⟡𓆪 Hiei can be quite scrutinizing when judging someone’s character. He can recognize ulterior motives just from observation alone; a valuable skill he picked up while living in the demon realm. He’s quick to notice the clingy nature of your old buddy. They stand too close for his liking, and their gaze lingers even after you’ve parted ways.

𓆩⟡𓆪 Hiei doesn’t express his concerns, or rather, he doesn’t know how to. He’s well aware of how silly he would sound if he brought up small details like a “lingering gaze”. He becomes increasingly frustrated, and this causes him to act territorial.

𓆩⟡𓆪 Remember all that stuff I mentioned about Hiei keeping his distance and respecting your personal space and privacy? Throw that out the window. Once he’s fed up, he simply snatches you away from your friend (mid conversation!) and threatens them. The situation turns hostile very quickly, and it’ll take the help of Kurama or Yusuke to keep him from fighting.

𓆩⟡𓆪 When you’re left confused by Hiei’s sudden outburst, he outrightly admits that he doesn’t want you to spend time with your friend anymore. He offers little explanation, merely saying they’re suspicious and untrustworthy.

𓆩⟡𓆪 Don’t even bother accusing him of being jealous. It may be the truth, but he doesn’t care. “How do you expect me to react when you insist on being friends with the enemy?”, “I won’t allow anyone to take what’s mine.”

𓆩⟡𓆪 No matter how much you protest, Hiei will continue to throw jabs at your friend any chance he gets. As soon as the tournament starts, Hiei is nitpicking their fighting skills and making unnecessary critiques. He refuses to be cordial. With his constant remarks, drama is bound to start again. Your demon friend won’t take kindly to the ridicule.

𓆩⟡𓆪 Arguments arise, and there isn’t much you can do to stop it. Hiei won’t admit that he’s afraid of losing you. He skips around the problem, blaming you instead. "Are you pretending not to notice?", “That demon looks at you the way I look at you. They want to have you.”

𓆩⟡𓆪 Anyone who is close with Hiei knows he has a reserved gentleness for you. There’s a visible softness in his eyes whenever you appear. His body language is more open and relaxed. He wants to be near you all the time. Hiei is all too familiar with the feelings you invoke. It’s the reason he can recognize those same sentiments in another person.

𓆩⟡𓆪 The only way to calm his nerves is reassurance, both verbally and physically. Set aside a moment for alone time, even if it’s just standing in a hallway for a few short minutes. Check in with him, share your feelings about the tournament, talk about things that you wouldn’t tell anyone but Hiei. Maybe sneak in a kiss or two as a quick distraction.

𓆩⟡𓆪 The alone time offers a temporary solution by reinforcing your special connection. Hiei isn’t able to hide his obvious disdain for your friend, but at least he’s less fussy and agitated.

Hiei sneaks in your bedroom window at night.

Sometimes you pretend not to notice the signs he’d stopped by. Something moved slightly from where you know you put it or a footprint because he didn’t realize his shoes were muddy. You’d curse him a little for never taking his shoes off, but you’d be a bit frightened if he actually did. After all, it’s Hiei. He’s a demon and any of your human customs, like simply removing your shoes at the door—or in his case, window—are foreign to him.

He’d never leave the window open or forget to draw the curtains back. Hiei was hell bent against you recognizing his affections. He’d never want to be seen as soft, as human, but you plague his mind more than he will admit. He’s busy in demon world, and isn’t too fond of the human world, but you bring him back every time.

At night, he’d sneak in through the window beside your bed. His feet poised on the window ledge, his eyes fixed on you, and the sweetest smile of which nobody has ever been lucky enough to see on his face. His heart beating so fast it honestly makes him sick. He hates how weak he gets around you. It only makes him dig his heels into the dirt more. He keeps you at arms length, but checks on you frequently. He likes to do so in person when he can, but more often than not, it’s with his jagan eye.

He won’t admit his feelings unless you just figure it out on your own. He doesn’t feel like he’s the person you want, or the person you need. He hates to see you too close to Kurama or someone else, but part of him feels like you deserve somebody better than him. And if he knows this, why can’t he give you up? Why is he waiting around?

It sickens him that he doesn’t even understand himself because of you. He’s quick to bite at you for simple things, as if being mean would keep you far from the truth. And since he can’t stand how he’s afraid of what you’ll think of him, he comes when you aren’t able to perceive him or his actions at all. You’re fast asleep, a few feet away, and, at least as he believes, unsuspecting to his presence.

But you know damn well he was there.

𓆩⟡𓆪 If you have a history of being well versed in combat, Hiei lets you handle your own battles. He understands that you don’t need a babysitter. If he were to jump to the rescue every time you found yourself in danger, it would be an insult to your capabilities as a fighter.

𓆩⟡𓆪 It will take a great deal of self control to idly stand by while you’re defending yourself. Any opponent who is seemingly more powerful than you can make Hiei fidgety. He’s ready to pounce on your attacker the second they lay a finger on you.

𓆩⟡𓆪 In fact, there have been times when Hiei just couldn’t help himself. Seeing you wounded is like an instant trigger. Anyone who causes your blood to spill is a dead man. The fight is over the minute he intervenes.

𓆩⟡𓆪 Hiei has to remind himself how he would feel if someone tried to “protect” him during a battle. With an ego his size, he would surely be offended by such heroics. With these thoughts in mind, he can hold himself back…for the most part.

𓆩⟡𓆪 Unless you explicitly ask for help or find yourself in a deadly situation, Hiei stays put. Will it be easy? Not at all. Will he respect your autonomy as a fighter? Absolutely.

𓆩⟡𓆪 Alternatively, if you aren’t great at defending yourself, Hiei won’t hesitate to protect you.

𓆩⟡𓆪 He might consider standing by if the aggressor was a small fry, but honestly, that’s a risk he’s not comfortable with taking. Protecting you is a like a reflex. He doesn’t think about it, he just does it. Also, if you were to get hurt while under his care, he would blame himself.

𓆩⟡𓆪 But perhaps you want to fight but don’t have the skills to do so. Hiei would have to compromise and teach you a few self-defense skills. Being totally defenseless is not good considering the life he lives. There are enemies at every corner, so knowing how to throw a punch could really come in handy.

𓆩⟡𓆪 On a more positive note, Hiei loves watching you kick ass. It fills him with immense pride. He’s like a proud dad cheering on the sidelines, except he just smirks and praises your every move. If you were to do something as simple as dodging a blast, he’s all like “It takes a true strategist to avoid an attack like that. How clever.” (Team Urameshi is sooo fed up)

𓆩⟡𓆪 But once everything is over and you’re glowing with victory, Hiei is relieved, and mildly turned on— so beware.

Hiei often resides in the demon world, so there’s a small tinge of blood (iron/metallic smell)

After using Darkness Flame, a slight burning smell surrounds him— like burnt flesh (the smell was incredibly strong when he used it during the Dark Tournament)

When bathing, he might visit a quiet hot spring or small lake. Hiei is petty enough to refuse body wash simply because it's a human made product. He mostly prefers a plain bar of soap without any strong fragrances or chemicals.

Hiei isn’t a cologne guy either, but if he happens to come across a scent he particularly likes, he might snatch it.

𓆩⟡𓆪 Kurama: Well, Roses, of course.

This man is a walking bouquet. He naturally smells like a freshly bloomed rose on a spring morning.

Floral scents all the way. Floral body wash, floral perfume, floral lotion, you name it. He is the KING of skin care. Organic products only. Cruelty free. Vegan. Recyclable. The list goes on and on. He certainly doesn’t need any of these items but he enjoys collecting them anyway!

Kurama uses homemade soap bars made from various flowers and leaves, and he likes to take bubble baths with rose petals in the water!

Even on his worst day, after a life or death battle, he still smells the best out of everyone in the group. You would’ve thought he’d just taken a stroll through a garden rather than fighting for his life.

These two get into so much trouble. By the time they make it back home, they're covered in sweat, dirt, and traces of blood. Luckily, after a shower, they smell much better.

Think of the most basic men’s body wash. That’s their smell range. (Musk and spice scents are most common) Kuwabara may pick up shea butter here and there because he’s fond of sweet smells. Yusuke grabs whatever smells decent and moves on.

There’s also a good chance you’ll smell their hair gel if you get close enough.

As for cologne....AXE BODY SPRAY.
