Triangular glasses were replaced just as quickly as they had been slowly removed. Even though his irises were now non-existent and, therefore, not reminiscent of orange juice, the glasses continued to be a must. They had rarely been removed before his death and never when he was in Sprite form. But with the change to his current ghostly form they seemed to be coming off more often than usual.
Green. Brilliant, emerald green, framed as though a painting by narrow black frames. Dirk had always admired Jake’s eyes. They were the color of life, to put it simply: trees, ivy, moss, and a variety there of. Gold flecks radiated throughout them like the coins of a sunken pirate ship scattered amongst the seaweed of the ocean’s floor.
The fact that they were a normal color and not usually placed on the “freak” spectrum helped, as well.
It was odd to hear Jake speak of the Jake from his time. They were the same person, in a way. Dirk’s jaw tightened as he prepared to respond and relay the knowledge he had of Jake’s location — which was none — and how he had managed to cheat death for the final time — which was only in the form of theories. However, instead, wide silver eyes closed as the words passed his lips like a whisper of wind. Though his eyes were closed, his chin fell to his chest as though he was examining the ground below their feet.
“I have no idea how Jake got out of limbo. He just… Stopped existing.”
His top teeth ran over his bottom lip, hesitating. Should he really drag this golden-hearted soul into what would most likely be a heavily disappointing journey?
“I’d be glad to have your help.”
