No problem! Before your exam, it may prove helpful to ask your teacher or whoever is leading the exam that you be partnered with people around your own size. Always glad to help where I can!

Turns out we chose our own partners. =D We went through the protocol on our Saturday training, so all questions were answered then.

Mentality Switch:

When it comes to food we have to stop saying “I want it, but I can’t have it” and start saying “I can have it, but I don’t want it”

The bigger they are. The harder they fall.

Plus if they are taller than you, then you will generally have a lower centre of gravity to work with against them.

Thanks! For some reason, I just haven’t been able to really get them off their feet while going for the throw. It might be that I don’t go low enough, so I don’t really lift them with my feet and apparently, I still forget to take all the steps for a good throw. Well, there’s one more session before the exam!

You’ll do fine! I struggled with the names pretty badly when I was a yellow belt and I really didn’t get them all memorized until brown. Just takes practice and time.

These past two weeks have been hard mentally. I’ve been exercising and on Monday at pole dancing I felt like I was getting the hang of it and getting stronger, but otherwise I’ve been down and it takes effort to do things. I couldn’t go to Capoeira on Wednesday and yesterday I didn’t go to Latin dancing. I should probably do a workout today to compensate for that, but I’m not sure I will. I’m just so tired.

do you perhaps have any resources for drills to perform in between classes to work on cardio/strength/etc? like in warm ups we do 'quick feet', burpees, etc. just wondering if you have any other suggestions, thank you for the a+ blog.

My Taekwondo instructors have some particularly horrendously effective drills. I will share the love.

Inchworms

Bend at the waist, try to keep your legs and back straight, and walk out your hands inchy inchy inchy until you’re horizontal. Do a push-up if you’re nuts. Proceed by inching your feet forward until your butt is sky high again. Core forever.

Air Squats

We do a lot of these. Whole body is moving. Good core, good cardio, good butt/thighs.

Get your but really low (knees permitting), keep your back straight. When you come back up, stand full up. Do a jump if you are nuts.

Lunches with kicks in the middle?!

Not sure what martial art you’re doing, but we’ll do a big forward lunge, then EXPLODE up into a kick. Front snap kick, usually, but you can do whatever flavor you prefer. Then back down into a deep lunge. You end up staying in place. You can switch feet on each one, or do the same leg for a set then switch. 

Like this picture, but do a good actual martial arts kick.  This is bonkers exhausting.

Caveat: I don’t do much conditioning and I’m not a trainer. I have zero education in this area! So do what works for you and what feels good!
