“It’s a bit of a hodge podge,” James murmured, stepping back to admire the wall. 
“I don’t mind.” Lily said, coming up behind him and wrapping her arms around his waist. “It’s like us. We’re a bit of a hodge podge ourselves, aren’t we?” 
The wall was covered in a collection of photographs of their dear friends. Lily had purchased a small muggle camera after classes had ended and had made a tradition of passing it between the friends to take pictures and then send them all back to the Potters. 
It was a silly tradition, of course, but they all had started to depend on such silly traditions to keep them sane. 
And now, the Potter’s small house was covered in photographs of people they loved to remind them how much good they had in the world. 
“I like our hodge podge.” James whispered, covering Lily’s hand with his on and she squeezed gently. 
“I do too.”

Home (Part 1)

Walburga Black was a harsh woman. When her eldest son came home from Hogwarts for spring, she was more than a little displeased when her eyes grazed over a dressed proudly in the Gryffindor’s colors Sirius. She looked him up and down with a stern look, burning into him. 

She ordered. The boy stared his mother down. He heard footsteps walk towards the two of them. His father seized him up, receiving an equally cold glance from his wife. Walburga: “Our son is disgracing us.” She spoke as if Sirius was no longer in the room. 

Before she could continue slandering her own son in front of him, Sirius balled his fists and spoke up. To his own surprise, yelling. 

He feels the scars on hidden places ache as he bites the inside of his cheek. His mother lets out a sharp harsh breath. She looks him dead in the eyes.

It’s as if her voice leaves a cold shudder all down Sirius’ body. It wasn’t what he had expected. She turns around, leaving Sirius and his father alone. 

Orion holds out his suitcase.

He puts the suitcase down before Sirius can grab it. 

He wants to say something, anything, but his father has already left the hall. He’s alone. The room hurling around him in the dim light. The pure loneliness filling him up, already dreading the vacation without the other marauders. The promise of letters making him able to fall asleep that night to the sounds of his parents yelling at one another.
