hpkhyojin:
almost holding his breath, it practically feels like minutes pass before he hears the sound of the scrambling phone line and the other’s voice coming through. relief immediately fills his chest for although hyojin has been occupied with his own things, hwiyoung is the first who enters his mind when he worries. he smiles a bit, praising himself lucky the other cannot see him and poke fun at him right now.
it seems however that they do not share the same mindset about the passing of things. hyojin wishes he could be as optimistic as hwiyoung is, but he cannot. that silly boy doesn’t seem to realise how grave the situation actually is.
lips parting against the cup phone he inhales for a moment, barely daring to voice the thoughts he has in his mind. “but what if we did, though?” he asks. “what if we did kill someone?”
When Hyojin speaks and gives voice to the thoughts in his head, the smile slides away from Hwiyoung’s face to be replaced with an expression that is both confused and somewhat fearful. Staying silent for a moment as he processes his mentor’s words, Hwiyoung eases himself to the floor, chewing on his lip.
Surely no-one in here was that cruel, were they? None of them could have actually played the bear’s game and killed someone for the chance of getting outside, right?!
.....And what the hell was Hyojin trying to imply?! What did he mean by ‘we...?’
“I... I don’t get ya, sunbaenim....” he mumbles eventually, voice sounding unsure and a little... distrustful, perhaps? “What do you mean ‘if we did kill someone?’” ‘Cause I haven’t, I promise! I mean, you said that I’d only do that if it was...!” He breaks off abruptly, eyes widening in horror as another possibility occurs to him.
No. Surely not. Hyojin is many things, but he’s not a killer!
Right?
“Y-You’re not telling me that.... That you...?” he manages to choke out, though unable to say that awful word.
